I've read a few accounts of sailors and crew aboard merchant ships firing at periscopes (or what they thought were periscopes) with machine guns and AA weapons.

I'm not sure how often in real life submarines got close enough to ships in fine enough conditions that merchantmen were able to spot periscopes but there have definitely been situations in game where my periscope has been spotted by a ship at very close range and were I aboard said victim I would be opening up with everything I had to try and spoil that sub's aim.

Is it possible to tweak the AI so they will fire upon spotted periscopes with light AA weapons?

Is it possible for this fire to damage a periscope?

I sort of had a brief look around how scripting works and it started making my head hurt.

Question #1: no, as they already do so...
Question #2: and yes, this is possible...

:hmmm:

Oh, and sometime if not all the time, U-Boats would get at a minimum range of 2km of their target... and sailors firing at a pariscope with MG and AA guns have happened most of the time I they saw a glare or what was thought to be a glare from a Sub. pariscope, or they got really paranoid <------ this those happen especially when your out at the sea for some time.

lol :haha:

I must have run into more than a few lookouts who remembered to tell the guys manning the wheel, the searchlights and the captain... but forgot to tell the guys on the MG's :)

hehhe hartman stole his signature from titanic. i remember those exact words. what a tragic loss of a ship.

and you know whats funny is they always hit my periscope with AA when i surface. and NEVER see my scope. the noly way they know im there is when the ship buckles and water starts pouring in
