I wonder in another forum from a specialist in DW he said the best way to learn the Game fast, you started not! with subs, you have to started with the Helicopter and learn all about sensors..
Then go to the Orion, next to the ASW Destryoer and LAST go to the Subs?
If you make this you learn fastest how the game works..
Can anyone confirm this?
And whats your opinion..which sub is the best sub to train the newbie?

Thx you:salute:

Helo is the simplest. Orion is somewhat similar to helo. Then sub (IMHO). Then FFG. FFG for sure has the most options.

FFG is definately the hardest, or at least the most complicated platform to learn. The helo is a good starting platform, but I think you can start with a sub if you prefer. As far as which sub to start with, it really depends mostly on which interface you like. The Akula and 688i are fairly similar in how they work and the Seawolf only has a few differences (like WAA). The Kilo however, is a very different animal and, while it may be just as easy as the others to learn, it is much more difficult to use effectively. So my suggested path would be Helo, P-3, nuclear sub, Kilo and lastly the FFG. I'm actually still wrestling with some aspects of FFG sonar and TMA and I've been playing this game for some time now.

There is trick to FFG TMA .. don't use it :)
Use towed array for initial contact only. Send helo to investigate and prosecute.

I would say that the 688i is the easiest to begin with.

The sonar on the Akula and Kilo are easy to learn and more user friendly compared to the US subs. Might want to consider that when choosing.

That's true about the Russian sonars. However, I've really started loving them after replacing the standard interfaces with the RA Victor (Akula) and Alfa (Kilo). These RA sonar stations have a really awesom bright-green-on-black color scheme which makes it so much easier to use. It's really changed my Russian subbing experience.

Oh and the 688i is only the easiest platform for people like you and me who played 688(i) Hunter/Killer and Sub Command.

I much prefer the American sub's waterfall sonar displays more. With them, you can really watch and assess a target's movement over time without having to go to the TMA.

This is true IF the you are lucky enough to have the target on broadband. Narrowband only has a very brief history (I think it's 30 seconds) and so is not that useful for observing motion over time, and If you're tracking a sub or sophisticated warship, you will mostly be constrained to using NB. While the Russian NB sonar doesn't provide any history, it does provide a simultaneous view of the entire arc of the sonar's envalope. This means you don't have to do the annoying manual scanning you have to do with the US displays. Also, there's not much visual difference between a faint tonal and a strong tonal, so you don't even have to adjust your gamma and squint to pick up a quiet/distant contact. As far as broadband goes though, yeah the US displays are much better.

To learn DW the right way you should read "The Landlubbers Survival guide to DW"
And being DW related, you should check OneShot´s web for it

I would say the subs are the easiest and fastest way to learn all of the other platform.

The helo and Orion are probably even easier though but by learning the subs first would make the FFG the only thing harder to be mastered.
