Note that I did NOT use NumLock+Del to remove the UI from the screen. With this mod all UI functions are slideouts. This is why I don't use OLC_GUI, which is also a fantastic mod. Someone else will have to post that picture and link.

I would like to say that what we are praising is mostly mods. SH4 is the better platform, and if it had recieved the same attention it would actually be better. And if things work out SH5 will be better still. It has the best platform to work with, and with proper love and care should someday put them all to shame.

But for now, I'm happily sailing a Type II in the North Sea.

Maybe, someday SH5 will be better. And you are adsolutely right; what we are praising is mostly mods. But from my point of view from the combination of these mods along with SH3+GWX3.0 produced the most dark and gritty U-boat sim ever made.This "game" will remain on my ring forever...:arrgh!:

Removes all visual contacts from the map, leaving dashed circles that only appear if the cursor passes over them. If you click them they say "Unknown". Once they are identified they will show the information. There are around 20 ships in Kiel at this moment. I put the UZO on one, and here you see the results.

Thanks!:rock: It's funny. I originally was put off by SH4's map tools, thinking SH3's were much more convenient. After awhile, though, they began to grow on me. Thanks to JSGME I can install this one and remove it again until I decide which one I really like the best.:sunny:

In my opinion, the writers of SH3 were very interested in making the game. They were not just going to work at UBI every day, they were interested and excited about developing the game. The Grey Wolves team made SH3 the base platform and made use of every resource they had to make SH3+GWX3 what it is as we know it. GWX3 changes SH3 from a WWII Submarine game into as close as possible real life WWII Submarine Simulation in Every Thinkable Detail:yeah:. I installed GWX3 about a month ago and I am very impressed with it. SH3 was a good start for the game GWX3 completed the game. It's perfect. :salute:

Nothing at you personally, just my typical reaction. WAC has the most awesome bridges over the Kiel Canal, including the working turntable railroad bridge. As I've just seen LSH3 has the Kiel costruction works, with several ships under construction.

I just wish they could all be combined.:wah:

I understand what you mean perfectly. No offence taken at all. I do intend to explore the other super mods out there. My original post was my initial reaction to playing SH3 with GWX3 in comparison to SH3 stock. I really should have said GWX3 is the best I've seen so far.:DL

"MultiSH3 is a utility that will change the folder name in "My Documents" that Silent Hunter 3 uses to save campaign and career information. It does this by patching a file in the game's root folder called FileManager.dll. Stock SH3 is hard-coded to save this information in a folder called My Documents\SH3, but given the large number of supermods and other mods it may be desirable to be able to separate careers by saving them in different folders. For example, you might want to have a stock SH3 1.4b installation, a TGW installation and an NYGM installation, each with their own career information.

The obvious benefit of this is that it prevents any possible confusion over which campaigns and careers belong to which installation. Mod developers may find it useful to have a known safe copy of SH3 and one or more development copies, each completely separate. Gamers may find it useful to be able to remove, repair or update supermods without having to uninstall the lot and start again (anyone who has needed to modify their Grey Wolves installation should see the benefit of this immediately)."

I still insist that Aces Of The Deep had the best damage management of any subsim ever. The damage screen was a blueprint of the u-boat, and if you clicked on it nothing happened. If you had damage, however, the damaged area would be circled, and if you clicked on the circle you would get a text screen of the Chief telling you about the damage and giving an estimated repair time. Simple, elegant and realistic.

Pascal's Damage Screen mod doesn't represent that exactly, but he got it as close as SH3 will allow.

I have been playing SH3/GWX for many times, until SH5 release date. Never played SH4 with ATO mods - there is no atmosphere at all. Tried SH5 and decided to back to GWX. SH5 is better than SH3/GWX only in one aspect - graphic. It would be fantastic to merge SH5 graphic with GWX :up:.
Playing GWX I have some "must have" mods. I've tried many GUI's for SH3, but decided to use hsGUI v3.1 for GWX, because it's a good compromise of many new functions and simplicity of servicing. Rest of mods give SH3/GWX better look - RBs_SH4_Effects_GWX_30_71, Lifeboats&Debris_v4, Waterstream+Exhaust Combi v2.3 for GWX3 and Torpedo Damage Final ver2.0. I've tested three environmental combi packs for GWX: OLCE (unfortunately the last version merged with GUI), M.E.P. v3 and SH5 Water for GWX 3.0 v0.9. Now I play using SH5 Water.

Never played SH4 with ATO mods - there is no atmosphere at all.
If you never played it, how do you know? I like SH4 for its graphics (though SH5, as you say, is even better), and its crew management, and the way it handles radio messages, and the whole 'battle stations' thing. I think it has plenty of atmosphere; all it lacks is the cool stuff to look at. As I've said before, if SH4 could have all the modding SH3 has recieved I'd play it and nothing else.

It would be fantastic to merge SH5 graphic with GWX :up:.
As I pointed out earlier, other supermods have equally good AI and campaign items, and different things to offer. WAC has the realistic bridges over the Kiel Canal and LSH3 has the Kiel construction works, just for starters.

As to your wish for a merging with SH5, many modders from different teams are trying to do just that - add the coolest features to SH5. It almost certainly will happen, it will just take time.

Playing GWX I have some "must have" mods. I've tried many GUI's for SH3, but decided to use hsGUI v3.1 for GWX, because it's a good compromise of many new functions and simplicity of servicing. Rest of mods give SH3/GWX better look - RBs_SH4_Effects_GWX_30_71, Lifeboats&Debris_v4, Waterstream+Exhaust Combi v2.3 for GWX3 and Torpedo Damage Final ver2.0. I've tested three environmental combi packs for GWX: OLCE (unfortunately the last version merged with GUI), M.E.P. v3 and SH5 Water for GWX 3.0 v0.9. Now I play using SH5 Water.

I have the Torpedo Damage and the M.E.P. v3, And I've seen mention of the Lifeboats & debris, but I can't find it now that I'm looking for it. As for the rest, I'm very interested in them.
Can these be posted here as well ?? Thanks.

AFAIK Umark isn't a mod, it's a vanilla feature. I think GWX and a lot of graphics mods remove it, as not "real"...

Yes, you´re right, Umark is an "Stock-SH3" Feature, but there is a MOD (IIRC from Venatore:hmmm:) you can change the color of the "Umark" in many different colors !

It is based on the original High command news messages and several war diaries.

This mod adds a radio file to be played via an external media player, such as Microsoft Media Player or Winamp for each month of the war, and allows the player to find and play the radio file at the beginning of a war month with thecurrent political and/or military situation.

There are diverse mods for radio news, for install in SH3 Commander. Of course, with Commander you can put the dates of the news, but they use the gramophone.:oops:

SH3 haven´t a radio function, as SH4 and SH5. Diverses tests have been maked for made a radio in SH3, but without success.

Search in "downloads" of the forum. Also, you can use the radio mods for SH4, installed in gramophone (only the sound files).

I can't help it. There are some really nice gramophone records available now, of good quality, that my Commander will let me use from time to time, and certainly they give a good sampling from both sides of the Ditch. (There are some pretty ordinary ones too, contemporary attempts to produce historic tunes on modern 'instruments'.)

But, I can't help wondering. Will I get in real trouble from the High Command if someone hears me wind up, 'Brittania Rules the Waves' as I'm leaving dockside? Will they appreciate my sense of grim, ironic humour. I've seen some of those SA and SS guys, and frankly, I don't think they've ever cracked a smile! Still, I can explain that I use them to fool English Pig-dog types in low visibility, when challenged while sneaking around places like Dover. (Whenever I feel like taking out a Southhampton class.) Think they'd buy it?

Speaking of Dover, I can now hear the White Cliffs of, but I can't see them. My young XO (my son), keeps asking, "Where are these white cliffs she keeps singing about?" Any terrain mods out there that I should know about, or am I just looking in the wrong place on the coast?

They can't hear your gramophone, no matter how loud you crank it up. The tinny little speakers aren't modern boomboxes. On the other hand if there are any loyal party members buried in your crew they might turn you in.

And there's always the chance that Bernard will open his mouth...:dead:

Not that I'm aware of....all the land masses are pretty similar apart from trees and slight texture changes.

Yep, SH3 and GWX do make the best WW2 sub sim EVER.. SH4 isn't bad and is a real close second.. SH5 with better eye candy might sooth some who want a game for looks only, a short war, only ONE type sub, and the online only.. not EVER going to catch up to SH3, by the time they would fix SH5 and make good mods for it to fix it...

How many new subs are out for Sh3 and SH4? interior and exterior? not many.. it would take 15 years to get SH5 up to par..having more or all type subs, a whole war, being able to play offline and so forth. for a little better eye candy than 3 and 4..
Heck by that time SH8 would be out, no one will care for SH5.. people will still play SH3 and mods for realism.. play the newest for looks.

SH5 will die off in short time.

SH3+GWX3.0+SH3 Commander is the most immersive and grittier u-boat sim ever made. However, I hope that your combi mega-mod (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=176123) will be proved a big step in the right direction matey.:yep:

While I currently agree with the concept of this thread, I still have high hopes that the model-import problems and the lack of other u-boat types will eventually be solved. SH5 still has all the potential to be the best subsim ever.

I wholeheartedly agree and have posted as such myself but the time this will take is the one factor none of us are as yet sure about.

Besides....the model-import and lack of other U-boat types are currently being worked on by a few people as far as I'm aware.

I tried all your mods...but there is no mod to make a campaign like the GWX one...and I'm afraid that there will never be

It's the system of locking sub-campaigns..yes...I know the Silentotto thingy...anyway you have to sink 100,000 tons every sub-campaign---is it realistic?

Of course, but "no way" is kind of absolute. That you think it stinks is opinion; to say absolutely "no way" is usually a statement of fact. If you think it stinks, fine, but if you think it always will? We have no way of knowing that. Hence, it has potential.

Actually I use GWX+FM_Interior+Magui Final+Open Hatch and I think that SH3 is 10 step greater than SH5 (waiting Megamod of TDW).

What do You think to work on a Megamod for SH3 ?
We have dozens of fantastic MODS but is hard undestand what to use and his sequence :hmmm:

Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but at the very beginning of this thread, I clicked on the link for FM new interiors and the OLC Das Boot green and they seem to be broken, it takes me to the file front pages then I click download and it takes me to a page saying 404 not found. Is there another place to get these?? I Cannot locate them in the download section! :(

There are three main reasons why I love Silent Hunter III above all my other games, in no particular order these are:

1. It is the most immersive (excuse the pun) game that I've ever owned, just dripping (excuse the pun) with atmosphere and tense gameplay.

If your unable to find the mod, use SH3 Commender (if you aren't already) and set the water clarity in the gameplay settings to the maximum (20).

Try with SH3 Commander. Try MEP3 or SH5 Water for SH3 new version, also. These mods have a good underwater visibility.

If you want to have more underwater visiblity, open with S3D the file "scene.dat" and try the settings (see red marks) for Underwater > Fog as you see in my screenshot ! ;)

I still insist that Aces Of The Deep had the best damage management of any subsim ever. The damage screen was a blueprint of the u-boat, and if you clicked on it nothing happened. If you had damage, however, the damaged area would be circled, and if you clicked on the circle you would get a text screen of the Chief telling you about the damage and giving an estimated repair time. Simple, elegant and realistic.

Pascal's Damage Screen mod doesn't represent that exactly, but he got it as close as SH3 will allow.

Sh3 is just try to be submarine simulation.
GWX 3 made the game real simulation its really hard to sink a convoy or even survive patrol in late war.

Wow great thread, just returned to SH3 again after yet another break, yes I know I keep leaving, but hey I always come back. ;)

I have always thought that once I installed GWX that, that was it, I wasn't even aware of all these extra addons for it. Damn now I'm really excited. Some of the recent vids I've seen using a modded SH3, GWX and the extra mods here are just stunning, I mean taking the time to add visible food in the control room that reduces with time, I know this is very minor, but for someone who is after the best detail possible, it's little extras like this that keeps me returning. Thankyou to each and every one of you who have made the mods possible and kept SH3 alive.

Currently running SH3, GWX gold and SH3 commander, but am going to start downloading everything here. Just hope the links still work. I know they do tend to go down.

There isn't a secret archive hidden is there that I don't know about, which has everything in one place. ;) yes I know it would be huge but hey you never know. :)

I know I have a folder of all the old mods I used to use still on my PC, but I'm guessing most if not all of them will be out of date now. So ill start a new mod folder starting with GWX Gold, SH3 and then every mod listed on here.

Although all the mods in the world won't help me at sea, when despite all the years I've been using this, I still can't do manual targeting. Yep I'm useless, but I can die very well indeed. ;)

Don't think I've ever got into 1940 yet. Not once in god knows how many years.

Looking at the correct install order on top of GWX 3.0:

- Water-streams and exhaust combo latest.
- Anvart's GWX Flags and Pens Mod 2010.
- Anvart's Fumo Up and Down.
- FM Interiors 1.0 ( not using the newest due to computer specs ).
- Conning Tower Open Hatch Mod.
- MaGui Widescreen.
- Lifeboats and Debris latest version.

Also want to install hsie's .exe fixes patch and MaGui's patch related to this. Any issues with that.

I have some other mods but the above are the more complex ones as far as installation. The rest are more related to graphics and sound.

One of the struggles with the above has been the interior camera ( Shift F2 ) is on rails rather than
mimicking the motion of the sub.

That comes with FlakMonkey's New Interiors. It's not his fault or the mods, though. The interior pivots around the control room, and moving to the extreme ends exaggerates the problem. SH3 just wasn't designed for that sort of motion.

I have used mods on top of FM in the past and have gotten the realistic motion, but not with the mods above. Brett25's Mod comes to mind, but on top of the above it does not work. The MaGui Widescreen with the higher resolutions included is really well done so I am trying to build a scaled down mods list around it.

Edit: I did send B25 a PM to get his feedback.

Not speaking about when trying to sink a merchant with realistic loading times with your deck gun. Depending on how you hit it sometimes takes an hour or more and that is a time i feel i dont have sometimes.

im loving sh3 more than ever, discovered some cool smaller mods i didnt really know about...really, really, like Steibler and Hsie's .exe patch and the realism settings on that. MAG GUI and MEP...awsome..Silent Editor....JGSE and COmmander......GWX GOLD...awesome...NYGM...awesome...Steel Sharks league...awesome...:yeah:

with out SH3 and SUbsim.... something would definitely be missing in my life!:up:

Tried to log onto the Filefront website to get this version of FM's Interior but no go. Anyone where it might be? Have great problems with the newer version, so thought I'd try the original. Probably better suited to my aging computer/video card.

Sorry to intrude but does anybody know of a MOD where I could take less 20mm and 37mm ammunition and take more 105mm?

I dont bother with aircraft after I had 5 seamen killed by a Swordfish NW of the Shetlands. Crash dive every time, 40 degrees port rudder.

If I could swap say 200 rounds for say 5 shells I'd be over the moon!

Info you are looking for is on this thread, I think...shows how to change ammo and torps amounts in the game as well as adding more officers and PO to the crew

Thankyou Johnfb and Jimbuna. Ive got additional ammo in my mod folder. I think it works.... 1000 20mm 400 37mm and 100 105mm? Its just a shame to haul all those flak rounds for nothing when Ive had to sail away from a damaged large cargo through lack of 105's. I'll stop wasting rounds. :)

The mod I linked to gives you 250 rounds of whichever deck gun you have (88mm and 105mm).

Ive got it in my new mod list. Ive only put 4 in after patching to v1.6b with hsiets patch. That one plus open hatch mod, lite harbour traffic and lifeboats and debris and v1.6b supplement mod? Maybe i should just try them one at a time?

P.s. 250 rounds sounds perfect!
