Is it possible to get the diesels to idle when at All Stop? Basically what I mean is having the engine animation/sound like when running at minimum speed, but obviously without the boat moving or props turning. TheDarkWraith already has a smoke mod that gives us exhaust fumes at All Stop, now we just need the rest of the package!

Because they were direct drive, I don't think the diesels of the type VII "idled". I would think that at all times when clutched in the props were turning.

But more research will be needed.

You do realize that Silent Hunter 5 is "U-boats in WWII" simulator and not a "diesel engine" simulator, right?

Based on your mod requests, (better diesels (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=168700), new motor sounds (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=168832), prop rotation (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=169219), reduction gears (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=169858) and idling engines (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=170044)) I hope you can see why I'd be led to ask such a question. :O: I just think you might be missing a lot of the game play in SH5 by being frighteningly fixated on just one part of the sim.

:hmmm:

what about failures ?? broken cylinder heads , cracks in head gaskets, bended crankshafts, injectors failures... :D

Hey now.

No ripping into someone because they would like an aspect of the game improved.

People want more accurate or realistic waves, does that mean they want a wave simulator?

How about people wanting more accurate sunrises and sunsets, does that mean they want a celestial simulator.

All of these things being requested can only do one thing.

Make the sim, much more a sim, than it is now.

Have you been on the flightdeck of an airline simulator? The ones used to train the crews? I have heard pilots say, when you are in it, you feel like you are in the real thing.

You cannot compare games to professional equipment that cost a million dollars...

I wasn't ripping, just joking around. But if someone was asking for individual mods for wave height, foam density, wave frequency, wave transparency, wind speed and wave depth mods to the exclusion of everything else, than yeah, I'd be led to think that they just wanted a wave simulator.

Yeah, I understand how I could come across like that. Really, though, I want to see a whole lot of aspects about the game improved, I just start threads on the ones haven't been mentioned yet. And being the mechanically minded individual I am, often times it comes down to engine stuff. :O:

And yes, the u-boats were direct drive, however, just like in a manual transmission car, the engines can be declutched from the motors and props. It makes it a lot easier to start the engines, as they only have to get the mass of the engine going instead of the engine, motors, shafts, props...
