View Full Version : sound alerts when event happens

I hear about people playing and having the computer SOUND an alert when a ship, plane, alert, etc is seen or happens. I can be staring at the screen and nothing ever beeps, rings or yells - I just see the popup silently pop-up and the speed drop to 1. I would love to be able to read a book while the game runs a patrol at 128 speed and have my crew "wake me up" when the excitement starts.
Is there a mod that does enables this?
I've got GWX Gold, Commander, JGSME.
Thanks

Hmmm,
I haven't heard of such a mod ... but that is an interesting idea ... maybe I can come up with something .... I'll start looking into that and see what I can do. :D
Occaisionally I do get a sound warning when cruising on 128TC. Plane spotted, ship spotted etc. But this sound alert doesn't always seem to be working.

I have made a mod for ship contact alerts.
This is the link to download it. It is JSGME ready and works for both SH3 and SH4.
Raymond,
Your ShipContact mod isn't quite JSGME ready as it lacks the data folder. I've adjusted it and uploaded to here: (http://www.4shared.com/file/gy_ewwwH/ShipContacts.html)http://www.mediafire.com/?mqkdz3knjnd
(Thanks to Wreford-Brown)
It sounds the alarm bell for each new contact and announces by voice.

I play with SH3-Commander and I have in Commander Options set the TC Value for enemy ship and enemy plane spotted to "1" ! When I cruising on TC128 or higher and an enemy ship or plane is spotted by my crew (watch officer), the game go back to Realtime "1" and my watch officer shout "Ship or Plane spotted, bearing....." and so on ! I mean, the "shout" of my watch officer is my Sound Alert for ship or plane spotting !
Best regards,
Magic

Same here. It's enough to get my attention. If I'm doing something away from the computer I just turn the sound up louder 'til I get back.

I'll give it a go tonight.
Maybe it's as simple as that.
Thanks folks,

In Commander I increased sound effects to 128 and put ship and plane contacts to 1. Also changed speech language to English (tested it) and then back to German (tested again). While in port I get the speech "ship spotted" and "schiff geschicte" as expected but once on the go, in the Kiel canal and open ocean, the speech is silent.
I hate to say it, but I've played the game for 5 years and never had a verbal alert that I remember - figured it was not designed that way. I've played off the original disc and most recently, to avoid copy protection, downloaded from Fileplanet.
Sigh. Any ideas?

Try it with TC set to drop to 1 when a plane or enemy ship is sighted, but with everything else reset to the game default... that's what's working for me. It's worth a shot. Beyond that I got nothing.
