View Full Version : Minimum / Maximum target generation ranges?

Does anyone know for sure what they are? I've hear 20km being thrown around as the lower limit, but is this the hard lower limit (ie, ships will not generate closer than this)? Also, what is the upper limit? I've been messing around with sensor ranges and not been able to get anything outside of about 40km even with sensors supposedly able to reach much farther than that. Is this also a hard outer limit? Last, are there ways to change either of these numbers if they really are limits, or are they hard coded into the game?

From a developer's post:

The ships are:
-spawned at 35km
-de-spawned at 40km
-drawn at 20km

You're right about not being able to get anything picked up - they have to be spawned to appear on sensors.

Nope, it's hardcoded in the game engine.

Kinda surprising considering the fact that even low estimates of wartime hydrophone detection ranges (from what I can find at least), put the range for single ships as far as 25nm (50ish km) and the high range just goes way up... I guess there may be performance issues that stopped them though...
