View Full Version : SH3 mods with Steam?

I used to have the CD version of SH3 and enjoyed the mods for the game. Now I'm thinking of buying the SH3/SH4/SH4-expansion combo (buy SH4 + expansion, get SH3 free) via Steam. I refuse to re-install SH3 via CD since Starforce destroyed two different hard drives for me. My question is if I can use SH3 Commander and/or GWX3 while playing SH3 through Steam. If not, what are my options that don't include Starforce? Many thanks!

Commander and GWX work fine with Steam installations.

BTW all newer CD versions do not have Starforce, and are already patched to 1.4.:03:
Hello Karleuns,
Sorry to tag on to the end of this thread but I think others may benefit from this question:yep:.
I recently acquired another SH3 CD but I have no idea whether it is one of these 'later' CDs already patched to 1.4b and excluding Starforce. How can one see without loading the CD and therefore risking re-loading Starforce once again?
I am running Windows 7 and have used the Direct2Drive version which works brilliantly (£7 well spent:rock:). It would be nice to have a CD that I can trust though - incase I corrupt the Direct2Drive version.
Thanks guys (and gals) and I hope others benefit from this question too:salute:.
Regards
I am new to the game but not to modding. I can't get any mods to work except SH5 Water. Everything else crashes on launch. I have Steam version and verified that I am running 1.4b so any advice is appreciated. I am running on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, 8GB RAM, I7 Processor.

Mods seem to work fine on my steam install except for the widescreen mod. That causes a crash on startup. Not sure if steam is causing it though.
