Hi mates,
Any modders out there that can fix Hdrophone/sonar issues? :wah:

It appears as if you need to put points into your sonar guy's passive abilities. Or use a mod that does away with abilities. :)

kylania,
I've done both.....
Does yours work ok?
I can see a ship on my heading of 0 degrees ...straight ahead, but the Sonarman says "no sound contacts". I can hear the ship if I take over the sonarman's position.
What could I be doing wrong? I tested SHIII and it works fine.

While I was using MoraleMod before the patch I never had any problems with him calling out targets.
After the patch, with morale being fixed, I removed MoraleMod and now the silly guy isn't calling things out even if we crash into them! This is with a new campaign. I'll try my older saved game (where I'd maxed out his abilities) and see if it's the same.

I've had this problem with and without the patch.
Using "NewUIs_TDC_2_5_0_ByTheDarkWraith" (all priopr versions also).
Using "no Moral" mod
I try all "normal sweep" etc type commands....but never have a positive report.

Vorkapitan, are you using ddrgn's Historical U-boat mod, or any other mod that changes sensor files. In ddrgn's mod you have to go to 15-20m to start picking anything up on the hydrophone. You might try going down deeper and seeing if you can pick up a ship even if you do not have such a mod.

Thanks SteelViking....will try that also.
Yes ...I'm using mods that change the sensor files.
It seems none of the Sonar man icons report anything..but will keep trying.
Well I went to 30m ...same thing
Also tried "Moralesmod"
The icons hit are saying "no contacts" or "no contacts at bearing xxx" or "no target selected" even though I can hear them on the hydrophone.

Hi Mates,
Removed all mods except;
TDC #2A NewUIs_TDC_2_5_0_ByTheDarkWraith
TDC #2C NewUIs_TDC_2_5_0_AllDials_TDC
TDC #2D NewUIs_TDC_2_5_0_ColoredShippingChart_by_reaper7
TDC #2F NewUIs_TDC_2_5_0_alt_officer_wounded_by_naights
TDC #2G NewUIs_TDC_2_5_0_Twisty_periscope_thingies
TDC #2H NewUIs_TDC_2_5_0_jimimadrids_map_tools
The only msg I get that is close is "ship spotted at bearing xx "
when I'm underwater 30m.
Is this working for others?

Have you tried with no mods at all. It could be a problem with something from DW (such as command icons being disabled) in which case you should let him know so he can fix it. And, are you sure that you set up the user options file correctly. I have made minor mistakes while customizing his UI's before and gotten very strange behavior as a result.

I always operate the hydrophone myself...... the stupid guy cant even hear a target thats 5 km away.... :damn:
Where as i can hear targets that are 40 km away.
I havent spent any points on his abilitys, to be fair... but still, he should be able to hear things at 5km. I even put the needle on the sound for him and asked him... but still he says " no contacts".:nope:
But sometimes he does hear them..... I guess its a bug or to do with the realistic 3d sound travel option that i have ticked.

I removed all mods except "Church's SHV Keyboard Commands" and Patch 2. Happened with both unpatched or patched.
Z and X key = "no contacts" or "no warship contacts" sonar pointed at proper bearing where ship is heard..
Is there anyone else having this problem? :damn:

I really think it has to do with how many points you put into him. I just loaded up a previous save game, where there was a convoy 40km from me. My fully passive skilled sonar guy called out every ship in the convoy as he heard them. Even when I jumped to 64x TC, he'd bring me back down to 32x and call out contacts.
Then I loaded up a single mission, with a sonar guy with no skills at all. A convoy starts 34km away in that one. Within a minute of submerging a contact line appeared, but he didn't call anything out. A few minutes later he head a warship and did call that out. He than lost contacts entirely. I turned so the side of the boat would face the convoy and sped up to 64x TC. As the convoy was detected again I was dropped to 32x TC, but no call out. I sped back up to 64x and this time the other warship and some merchants were heard, I dropped to TC 32x and he called out the merchants this time.
Looking at the code for the abilities, it does look like there's a passive skill which increases detection time and range for sonar.

There is a mod that "corrects" this issue. It does this by setting the first level of ability to 20% (instead of 5% of stock) for hydrophone contact time and range. In my single player tests, after raising this ability, my sonar guy was calling out contacts immediately upon detecting them. He's never done that in all my tests.

Thanks to Kylania pointing me to this mod "Gouldjg's Crew Ability Balancing Mods". That seems to have resolved the issue for me.
Thanks Gouldig for a great mod fix we needed.:up::up::up::up:
