Ok so I finished the tutorial patrol, and I set sail to my objective. I'm walking around my sub feeling pretty **** hot, and I suddenly feel that I should check out the hydrophone. It didn't seem to want to work for me. I clicked the mouse on it aloada times. I then thought... ok... ill hit F1 maybe theres a key for like maybe... 'interact' and there is... 'space', but that doesn't work either. So then right... heres the best bit... I consult the manual. It says "The hydrophone station WILL..." (eventually?) "... allow you to manually handle the hydrophone.". Please tell me this isn't some kind of sick joke. Please tell me, that the hydrophone does work, and I'm just using it wrong. Lol! Cheers for the read people.

JC.

Use the HOME and END keys, or manically scroll the mousewheel to change the direction the hydrophone is pointing. And ignore the manual, it's not worth the hard drive space is takes up.

However, there doesn't seem to be any way to ask the soundman to report contacts, follow contacts, etc. (without Mods). This is unacceptable, IMHO.

Those abilities are actually there but as far as I can tell they are inaccessible by default because they are nmot asasigned to specific keys. I took a look at the command.cfg (which specifices what keys do what) file in the SH5 Data folder and I'm staggered to see how many commands are not assigned to a key or key combination.

I've started dabbling by editing the command.cfg file manually to activate various commands but the syntax used in the command.cfg file is not straightforward for most people.

This problems you observed stem entirely from the fact the developers have taken it upon themselves to not bother implementing something that the majority of PC games released to market have at launch, namely a keyboard assignment menu screen in the Options section so you can easily set up your keys from within the game. This is shoddy design decisions in action :)
