Just downloading the trial now, 4.5 GB, no less!
Anyone playing it?
Thoughts? If i like the trial, i think i might give it a shot, i did start the LOTR Online thread too, but thinking overall i might lean towards WOW...
if, and if WOW disappoints, then LOTR might be the one.
Is it really as addictive as people say? I'm checking their forums out as i write this, a lot of problems with hackers, trying to catch the noobs, sell their gold etc..people trying to pose as GM's, hmmm, any of you guys that play see this?
Or is it isolated?
Looking for inside info, from ppl that are playing the game...
cheers.

I downloaded the "free" trial a while ago.
Unless they've changed it, it still asks for a credit card number, before it lets you play the "free" trial.
I hit "delete" on that one pretty quickly.

Yep i play WoW just not as often as i use to. 80 Orc warrior, many low level characters & did have a 80 bloodelf hunter but deleted him after a rage ingame :har:. Although this does nothing cause all i need to do is pm a gamemaster and ask them to retrieve it for me. I love the pvp side of wow its really the only reason i play it.
The expansion Cataclysm hopefully will be out this year comes with two new playable races - worgen and goblins. The screenshots wont mean much to someone that hasn't played the game but for those that still do their are some big changes in the landscapes for instance the area thousand needles is now flooded was all desert, and Azshara has a huge port and paradise hotel etc.,
Cataclysm screenshots

My Warrior specs
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Tichondrius&cn=Konradcurze
I play on Tichondrius (pvp) realm, its pretty brutal, I would suggest to start on a PVE realm where you wont have to worry about getting ganked while questing.

If your crazy about gear, grinding your arse off for days, killing other players and enjoying their misery you just put them through - sometimes this backfires! lol or just like socializing ingame with ya guildies etc then yes it can become addictive.
As for hackers and people posing as GM's never had problems with that side of the game, occasionally in chat your see people advertising their gold sites which we just ignore.
Comes down to how stupid are you meaning if someone whispers you saying something along the lines "Hi we need your account details to confirm your the original player" and you give it!?!?! lol GM or Blizz staff would never ask for your password. Just common sense like in all mmos, never give out your details to anyone. Those that get hacked cause give out their details or they downloaded something of the internet where it contains a keylogger so next time they type in their password for wow they could get hacked. I have pw copied to notepad whenever i log into wow i copy/paste the pw in.

Can someone confirm this? Is this true?
So once i downloaded the trial i can't play until i put my cc details in?
I thought it's a trial? 10 days then level caps at 20? To go on then you have to pay by upgrading to full? Is this how i understand it?
What's the point of d/l if you can't play the trial ie for free to see if you like it?
In relation to charging by Blizzard, do they auto bill you a mth in advance?
Is it easy to cancel charges to account if one decides not to continue?
I love the pvp side of wow
So obviously for someone new it's best to start in a pve, that makes sense...
i'm assuming that will become clear to me at the start? Where to chose or rather how to chose in what setting i want to play? Ie pvp or pve?
Does one just switch over to pvp and back to pve? How does that work?

Another thing, once you cap your level, is that the time you look at expansions?
Or before?
Also, i'm d/l the trial, once i upgrade to the full version, does this mean i cap at lvl 60 or lvl 80?
And in expansions? You stay at the cap? Ie can't go over 80? Or you level higher?

yes you can cancel your acc anytime. The 10day trial is free they dont charge you unless you want to carry on after the trial. If you have a friend playing theres a better option where he applies for a 'Recruit a friend', then he invites you and you both play with triple xp right till 80, your lvl up quicker.

You can create up to 25 characters per account and have them spread out on any realm. Once you make a character on a realm that character stays on that realm unless you really need to change from pve to pvp or vice versa you pay $25USD for a transfer if i remember right. The only time a pve player can pvp is friendly dualing or if they enter battlegrounds or Arena ingame. Otherwise you cannot get attack by the other side while questing. Its all pretty straight forward when you go to choose eg: choose a realm, next to it will tell you whether its PVP, PVE, NORMAL or RPPVP, once in the realm menu etc you create the character you want and start playing.

First World of Warcraft - cap is 60. Thats the one your most likely be downloading unless they have the full package availabe for dl. Then you will need to get the 'Burning Crusade' expansion to go from 60 - 70. (you can go to Burning Crusade at lvl 58) Once you hit 70 your need 'Wrath of the Lich King' to go from 70 to 80. The last expansion Cataclysm when its out will start from 80 - 85.
Once you cap to 80 you can't go any higher until the expansion comes out. But the game doesn't stop there its just started really. eg in short - grinding for epics gear, or flying mounts, become a farmer and trade at the auction house making lots of gold, try new professions, Arena gear, Achievements, Titles and so on...

Thanks for the info kiwi, d/l the trial, now 700mb to go for the patch :damn:
Wanted to play, but have to wait for the dam patch to finish.
patch sze is 1.62 gb... is that normal?
I'm assuming so, what would that patch include?
What, in your opinion is the best character to start out with?
What are the differences between horde and alliance? Good and Evil in simpler terms?
I've heard that starting out as a palladin is pretty good, easy to level etc, although the hardcore gamers reckon that the palladin cops it from the veterans...ie noob taunts...
although grps always look for these later on in the game, due to their healing powers.
I like the sound of the Death Knight.

WoW, one of the grindiest MMO's ever. You grind levels, then you grind gold, then you grind item sets, then you grind pvp levels. I found the game to be utterly mindless and repetitive, and there is always one more little thing to grind for, then the next expansion comes out making all the stuff you spent months on end grinding for, doing the same instances over and over and over and over and over, utterly worthless and requiring more grinding still.
As for addictiveness level, people have actually died from overplaying this game due to not eating and/or not sleeping.

Yes a paladin is a good choice and is over powered imo doesn't really matter what you spec in the pally he/she will still kickass later on. Good all rounder. They make good tanks in dungeons, good healers and are powerful in bloody pvp as well!
I found the hunter is easiest to lvl once you tame a pet at lvl 10 and use him to attack mobs while you stand back and range attack it gets pretty easy. A DK is a very fast lvler and is like a one man tank but you wont have access to him till one of your characters has reached lvl 55 then the dk will be available. I would say try a few characters out it wont take you long to get to 20 by 20 you should know if you want to stick with him or try something else.
Once you get to lvl 10 you can start putting points into what spec you want to go, each class has 3 talent builds to put points in eg: Pally can go healer, Retribution or Prot (tank). Healer and Prot are excellent for PVE where Retribution is good for pvp. Every 2 levels you get to add 1 point.
Patch size yeah that's pretty normal for the early patches.
The difference between Horde and Alliance is one side are pricks and the other are not :)
Alliance = humans, nightelfs, dwarfs, Draenei & Gnomes (Worgans when expansions out)
Horde = Orcs, Trolls, Undead, bloodelfs & Tureans (Goblins expansion out)
I prefer the Horde but both sides are fun to play.

Your downloading from Blizzards main wow site right? Can't really help as i never tried the trial version I just went out and brought the game but i do know that the patches were big at the start.
Try and join a populated realm so if you need help in questing there's always some player at the same level as you that will join. Pallies are always needed for groups. And if you want there are always low level guilds that advertise in game for new members that you can join that are aimed at helping each other level up. Anyways shouldn't be too long to go. :)

I hope you have no life. Because thats about the only way you're going to get any decent gear and experience the end game content.
Though that makes me a bit of a hypocrite, I go back every now and then to play for a while before I get bored of it and move on to another game. I'm headed back for 2 months when Cataclysm is released. Once that's over. I'm out until i get a major urge to play again.

Ive emailed support, awaiting reply.
Ive checked their support forum and no help there, ive checked my wtf file for the correct links, all good, funny thing is i can log onto battlenet with my acct details...
i cant post on forums after logging in, it says i don't have a acct linked to it?

Did you dl the right region? - go to where wow is install and look in the \Data\ folder, you will see your region there either it will be enUS or enEU . You first have to have a character created before you can post in the wow forums if i remember right. Support should be able to sort out your problem hopefully.

Yea, went Pally, lvl 11, and that's where he'll stay.
Got stuck in some area with lvl 15 creatures etc, can't remember offhand where i am but everytime i try to get out of there i get smashed.
Gave up, created a Rogue Orc, lvl 16 and is ok.
So far so good.
Did my first dungeon crawl with 2 others, was awesome.
Tryin to find out how the heck i get a mount.
Or buy one letalone ride one.
Lvl 20 onwards is that right?
I thought you could buy one anytime?
Go to stable master in Orgrimmar then learn riding?
Is that how it works?
When i try to learn, it doesn't give me the option??

Lvl 20 for ground mounts lvl 70 for flying mounts. Yep as a rogue just go to org at 20. Paladin gets one for free after doing certain quests or something where they get a spell that casts a mount. OTherwise for the rest of us it costs 90 silver for the training and 9 gold for the mount. (it use to cost 90 gold for the training and 300gold for the mount & we had to be lvl 40). So when your 20 go get the training not before otherwise nothing will happen, the training is nothing its just payment and your trained. When you say you get stuck you do know you can hearth back to your home town using the stone right?

not many items there?

Booty Bay is a Neutral Auction House. You will rarely find anything worth while there,or in any other Goblin city with an Auction House.

kiwi_2005

Booty bay & Everlook are auction houses for transferring gold to one of your characters on the other faction well not aimed at that but that's what they can do. Just did this tonight for a guild member he has a human mage & wanted to send 5000g to him from his horde character, so he logs into his human mage & puts up a cheap item and prices it as 5000g then you need to get someone you trust in this case on the horde side and give them the 5000g then they buy that item for the price he put up. His mage now has the gold. Blizzard made it difficult as you need another to do the bidding otherwise it comes up with an error message telling you can't be done with same account.

The good old Thrash blade, Just a note see the picture where it says bind on pickup (BOP) this means once you pick it up its soul bound to you so can't be sold on AH. A BOE item (Bind on equip) means you can sell the item on AH or to someone as long as you dont equip it otherwise its soulbound.

Falkirion is right, forget about intellect and spirit. A rogue uses no mana, so intellect and spirit wont do a thing for you. Agilty is preferable to strength, ag gives attack power and crit. Stack heaps of ag & strength when you can, stamina if your going to pvp alot. Otherwise apart from that Zealot weapon and some gear with intellect which can't be avoided at early lvls i suppose your doing not bad at least you have blues and i see a epic in there.

Another question i have quickly, how do i leave a guild?
I'm in this guild atm which...err, well, i'm the only one in it!
I got asked to join this guild way back when i was lvl 18 or so back in Org, someone whispered to me u wanna join?, i said yea sure (stupid me, thought i was special getting asked to join a guild :haha: ), so how do i leave it/disband it?
Should i disband it or should i get members for it?
When i'm playing, i see on the ui ppl asking for members to join their guild, they say "/w me for details/join, guild advertising for no rush and any lvl members etc etc....
how do i reply to that? Or should i be better off to go to a guild master and join that way?
Where is the best place to join? Orgrimmar? Any major city?
Also, once i join a guild, what are the benefits?
Apart from instancing with grps etc etc?
Strength and Honour!
Oh, one more thing:
I have the option of dual speccing, cost: 1000G Is this a good thing to have?
Should i? Should i wait?
What exactly is dual speccing? I'm aware of specs, obviously, but the benefits of having dual? I remember in cleft of shadows seeing someone and they gave me the option of doing this, saying things like i can have 2 action bars with 2 specs running concurrent?
Or something like that.

To leave the guild (not as a guild master) type: /gquit
Should i disband it or should i get members for it?Thats really up to you. I would try join a guild till your ready to be the boss of your own.

In chat click on there name to whisper them. Or you can ask in chat that your looking to join a guild. eg: lvl 41 Rogue looking for Guild.
Where is the best place to join? Orgrimmar? Any major city? Also, once i join a guild, what are the benefits? Apart from instancing with grps etc etc?
Yeah cities. Guild banks, depending on the guild most will allow you to grab items you might need from there bank you'll probably have to rank up a bit in the guild before your allowed to access the bank. Ranking up could be anything from helping other guildies or donating to bank etc., Friendship, buddies round to help you out if your getting ganked by a lvl 80 that just wont piss off :)(or camped - they stay around and wait for you to spawn then kill you again over and over and over) usually if your in a good guild they will come to your rescue. Later on when 80 if you guild is organized then you wont have to worry about finding a pug to do the high instances - just run with the guild. Gear up easily.
Or something like that.I think hes meaning the 5 points in the first-tier Dual Wield Specialization for the rogue? Yea put points in that.
Dual spec is so you can have two specs as atm you can only have one going. Having two you can switch between specs anytime and not need to pay or head to city to change specs. Probably not needed till your higher lvl. But its a must have later on. Example: Dual specs you have combat for dungeons and Subtlety for pvp - you would be able to change to any one on the fly. Or you might have two different types of PVE specs you want to set up.

Its better that way, once you work out the game, well, it starts getting serious.
(note Hunters should not wear Strength gear ever!)
My first main was a hunter i had all strength gear and i was so proud i went and sat in Orgrimmar showing off my skilled hunter! :DL
Those days were the best times in wow for me as i didn't know a thing so didn't really care if someone laughed at me or whispered me ''Wow is not for you bro'', you noob get better gear etc., I was this huntard running around exploring the world not knowing what the hell i was suppose to be doing but i had the most fun back then.
Its only when you learn the game and realise the gear grinding, right spec, having the right pet in pvp as in the hunters class, gemming your gear correctly etc, then the game becomes a CHORE. You start taking the game to serious. The fun is still there but it ends up like a job kinda way.

I started playing on blackrock. (4 years ago) hated waiting for 2 hrs to log in due to the queue.
So was happy when 1st ocianic realm opened... frostmourne (AKA lag-mourne).
Then around the release of BC, I transfered my toons to Barthilas. Hated getting pwned by horde in BG's. So started my horde toons around the release of Lich King on dreadmaul.

I play RPGs for the exploring, it's why I like Bethesda's RPGs so much. In WoW, even in the 2 weeks I played it, it became a chore. Not to mention that when a good item finally drops, it's more than likely some tit in your party, who has absolutely no use for it, makes off with it to sell it somewhere. That really sealed the deal for me; not the grinding, that I could kinda deal with, but the poeple behaving like jackasses everywhere you go. :-?

If ya want to rpg go on a RPPVE realm, your find it more friendlier although its full of nutcases who think they live in that world. :)
This is why i pvp, I dont even bother with questing just play pvp in battlegrounds and level up that way plus its alotta fun. When Blizzard made lvling up in BG's available it started a whole new game for me.

Never been into PvP that much, but the later tier massive keep sieges and stuff are pretty nice. And of course, beating the hell out of the Order scum and then chasing them all around the realms not allowing them to recapture anything. Was fun. :haha:

Ja, don't have that PvP drive either, not very competitive. Aparently that makes you "special". :88)
If I played WoW, it would probably be PvE, and then the grinding doesn't attract me at all. Neither does dealing with nutcases btw, but I'd prefer that over the jackasses any day.
Seriously though, I get that poeple want to roleplay a roleplaying-game, but sometimes they take it a little too serious, not for me. ;)
One of the things I liked to do is grind grind grind and once I found something extremely valuable, auction it for 100gold or so, then head back to the tier 1 where all the new players are and hold hide & seek competitions, the first one who found me got something like 20gold or so. Damn.. what a disgrace I am to the bad bad Chaos side...

^ this another reason why being in a guild can be worthwhile, you wouldn't have to ask here. :)
60+ is when you start getting gear with sockets. Its as simple as clicking on gem then clicking on the socket to add it. Tip: If not obvious: You can learn the Jewel crafting profession to make your own gems and sell em on AH. Mining is the preferred second profession to take up if you decided to go JC.

lol at least your honest, but where did you get that notive that pvp makes you special in wow? Completly the opposite. Pvpers are mostly loathe at cause we dont pve we did rather kill players than kill npcs. Us pvpers like to think that it takes more skill to go up against a player than up against a npc but in wow thats not so apparently . Honestly if i wanted to pve i would go play a single player RPG. :know:

Not specificly in WoW, but it is general consensus that being competitive is human nature. Don't have that at all, aparently that's something special/unnatural. Kinda depends on who you ask of course.

Within an hr I got a message from a Game master to either pay for a name change or delete my character as Hitgirl is not a RP name. At least they're on to it. Boy Saves Sister From Moose Using WoW Skills
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/world-of-warcraft,10631.html
Who said PC games weren't educational? A Norwegian boy recently reaped in the benefits of spending countless hours behind the LCD screen by surviving a moose attack (http://www.nettavisen.no/innenriks/article1453635.ece) thanks to the help of World of Warcraft. Twelve-year-old Hans Jørgen Olsen and his sister went out into the forest near their home to take a brisk walk. Details are scarce, however they unintentionally wandered into moose territory. An alarmed moose came charging towards the two young trespassers upon their arrival.
Despite the threat, Hans knew exactly what to do.
Thanks to his numerous encounters in Blizzard's MMORPG, his first reaction was to "taunt" the moose so that it would ignore his younger sister. With its focus shifting to the boy, the sister was able to flee and head for safety.
In thegame, taunting is the ability to draw the attention of the attacking beast away from the lower-level and less-armored party members. Apparently it works on real-world beasts too.
After the girl escaped, Hans initiated another World of Warcraft tactic he learned at level 30: feigning his death. Dropping to the ground and remaining inanimate, he waited for the moose to sniff him out and lose interest.
Eventually the beast wandered off into the woods, leaving the boy unscathed--he's lucky the moose didn't trample him into a fleshy rug. Hans said that he got up and ran back home to report what happened.
The amount of experience points given for the encounter is currently unknown.

Whats the shutdown time on EU realms? Your bound to have a long one this week or the next. Tuesday last most US realms went down for 24hrs, not the usual 5hrs but 24. :o Blizzards preparing for the expansion. World of Warcraft Cataclysm Hands On - 4 pages of the stuff
Yae 1000 needles will now be flooded in the expansion - I hated that area and have to go there even if it is for a short time to rank up mining profession.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/world-of-warcraft-cataclysm-e3-2010-hands-on?page=1
The first thing you do when you spawn outside the gates of Orgrimmar is run in and see what they've done to your home. The scooped plaza of the once-ramshackle desert town is changed forever. The low-slung bank is now a menacing, fortified tower studded with black iron from which the zeppelins fly around the world; the surrounding architecture has gone from tumbledown to terrifying.
Last, but most definitely not least, is Cataclysm's new guild levelling. Again, this has been pared down slightly from the BlizzCon vision, but only very slightly, with the idea of guild talent trees - which would really only have been fun for the leader - replaced with a linear trail of convenience Perks that unlock every guild level. They might be experience or mount speed boosts, reduced repair costs, or mass resurrection or raid teleport skills, and everyone in the guild can use them.
That makes being in a guild sound attractive, but the really important part of the equation is to tie the player to the guild, to mitigate against fickleness or even the sale of advanced guild profiles. This is achieved by every player having a reputation level, just like faction rep, with their own guild, which is advanced by killing bosses, earning guild achievements, winning in PVP with guildmates by your side, or questing. Advancing in reputation unlocks special guild rewards from a vendor (bank slots, flying mounts, standards with a guild emblem). All this is supported by a quasi-Facebook guild pane complete with news feed and browsable roster with links to guildmates' profession panels.

I dont know but listening to that woman for more than 1 min wanted me to put my fist threw the monitor screen :stare:
Blizzard have gone and made cata similar to Wotlk (easy mode)
They have dummed down the expansion and cancelled the 'Path of the Titans' :damn: Instead we now will have 3000 quests to do to keep us busy instead of trying different approach they gone right back to just chucking in heaps of quests.
The titans was one pve side i was looking forward too it was gonna be an endgame character customisation tool, supplemented by runes you found from Archaeology. But no Blizzard cancel that idea!
- dumbed-down stats
- dumbed down talent trees
- weapon skills removed
- no more ranked spells
- no loot quality difference between 25-man and 10-man raid
- and no more Path of the Titans (which made up for no new races and no new classes). So all we get to look forward to at 85 is 5 talent points? It's really not much at all.
TBC made it easier to raid with smaller raids and offered Heroics for those geared enough
WOTLK made Heroics even easier, don't even need decent gear and most Heroics can be done within 45 minutes.
Cata: almost every aspect of WoW has been dumbed down
Instead we're offered 3000 quests. I don't know about anyone else, but questing at 80 is something I didn't actively do. Dailies aside, quests offer almost no progression for a top-level character. Nevermind the fact Blizzard have already stated those who don't buy the expansion have access to the new Azeroth.
So what do we really get at 80/85? Not a lot, it seems.

Yea, i for one am suffering from the 24 hour down due to maintenance.
Bad enough when that dam crappy wireless drops out right in the middle of a boss fight or just before you turn a corner in a instance after having battled elites, and you're about to cap that last elite and bamm! When logging back in, you are gone! :damn:
Kiwi, level 61, in BC atm, loving it!
Questing is awesome here, 10k xp quests, one thing i been reading is that the best way to power level in BC is to fight mobs 2 or 3 levels below you, which still gives up to 500xp... rather than battling mobs same or slightly higher levels...makes sense that, especially the way the writer put it, explaining that grinding mobs same lvl or higher takes longer in the respect that you have cooldowns and the need for food/potion downtime between each fight.
Am finally in a guild which seems cool, with some higher lvl players who have already helped me out and offered to anytime...
That's what i call a friendly guild.
One thing that urks me though is no AH in BC.. makes it hard.
Got my flying mount soon as i turned 60, makes for a exhilerating experience....in fact it actually allows me to sumise or plan tactics for a upcoming battle by hovering over it and planning things more.
In fact, one quest i did in BC, i used the mount to swoop in behind the mobs and then flew out, before any of them even got to me! Hahaha...got something like 12k for that lol.
Kiwi, what is your take on gearscore?
I been reading up on that and a lot of controversy on that.
I know what it is and how to check it etc etc.
Have you used it? Do you?
I think on the whole it's a load of boloney, one person saying that it allows the noobs to "filter" out the below par raiders so they can lazily pick up xp and gear.
Anyhoo, can't wait to get back into Mazrigos, hurry up Blizz!
P.S. Kiwi, am about to upgrade to WTLK, want to start up a DK, a lot of ppl say DK's are fail.
Thoughts?

P.S.S. My character:

your thoughts on that kiwi?
Geared ok? Trying to concentrate on strg and ag.
Considering the level, should i be having more dps weapons than that? Combat-specced.
Doing ok dps but surely i should be doing more? At that lvl?
I know i'm not a warrior with super strg but still...
Axes are the way to go, was using dual swrds however axes seem to have more dge rating/score.
Guess i could go maces dual wield, with stun, can't see any maces, in fact any weaps atm that are more powerful.

Gratz on 61
Your gear is okay dont worry to much about gear yet, when you reach 80 then its time to start gearing up, your just lvling atm.
Gearscore:shifty: if your on a realm where they go by your GS then getting into pugs might be hard at times - anyways again GS shouldn't matter at your lvl til your 80.
DK rocks man, DK was so OP when they came out that everyone rerolled a DK :DL they are a hero class so expect to lol'd a lot when playing them they can do insane damage where you might not want to go back to your rogue :) Great at PVE and PVP - unHoly for PVP and either Frost or Blood spec for PVE though it doesn't really matter ive pve in pvp spec and still put out good damage. When you finish the starting area for the DK your have all blues. So yes try out a DK when you get WOTLK  Your either hate em or love em.
Some addons if you haven't already have em, otherwise they are worth enabling Atlas loot will show you all the gear sets etc in wow thus so you can look up what dungeon is good for gearing your character. Recount when enabled will show your DPS and the DPS of your party.
