Does this mean that we can now order x degrees to starboard and port for more accurate turning.

I wouldn't count on it. The best way to achieve this is with the Speech Recogniton Mod by Skwasjer , have you tried it? For example, you can order '15 degrees to port' and the Boat does it!

Frumpkis made the point in the How broken thread that sometimes devs don't post all the fixes in a patch...
how true is this in reality?
Anyone know? Or is what they post "officially" pretty much the gospel, so-to-speak?
Lame. 2 month to fix something that moders fixed already in only few days, but nothing about the AI or campaign improvement. I bet this patch will be a big disappointment ...

My first thoughts too.
Without more variety I can't see me playing it for too long. 7 types of ships isn't enough and add to that the fact that there are no neutrals.
Oh well - we'll wait and see (and hope)

From official forum russian member:
Saved games from 1.1.5 are working in 1.2
I only had some problems with mods from 1.1.5 ver
About bugs:
1. torpedoman abilities bug still exist
2. Stadimeter isn't working properly (200 to 400 meters mistake)
3. crew still looking oposite direction when you're talking to them
And they said more FPS, moral crew fixed, more data in Recon Book.

I predict that Patch 1.2 will be the longest wait for the least amount of improvement in the history of the Silent Hunter series. I'm sorry but I paid full price for this game and the previous two incarnations. I think the level of support has been crappy. I appreciate that two or three Devs have been a presence on this Forum and offered a little help here and there but these guys could fix all that's wrong with SH5 if they really wanted, I just don't think that they're gonna do too much if they're not getting paid.

Lets wait (and hope) and see what we get given first. I understand everyones frustration - feel a fair bit of it myself, but I don't see the point of knocking the devs when the only details we have of the patch is the shopping list.

Well thanks for the one up Kylaina, it certainly is good to hear something from them.
There is one thing that I have yet to have seen in fix list since it first appeared. And that was the plotted stuff the player does on the map, and also the sunk ship icons not being saved. But I can only hope that these are part of the saved info like weather perhaps and didnt need a separate listing.

- Fix for CO2 not being saved correctly
- Fix for weather being reset to clear weather after load
- Fixes for crewmen showing under water under certain conditions Cool, can we gets this for SH4 now too?
Of the listed fixes, these are the only ones I consider important:
The rest are cosmetic at best or so completely done better with mods not even worth fixing. :DL
- Environmental lighting and effects improvements
Could also include improvements of the horror banding bug which prevents any form of decent modding of the environment. Solving this issue is crucial. I'm afraid the number of bugs and issues is overwhelming the progress which 1.2 will deliver.

Im a little concerned that the list shown in this status update is smaller than the original was.
The original

•Fix for crew morale.
•Fix for weather being reset to clear weather after load.
•Fixes for crewmen showing under water under certain conditions
•Fixes for ships exploding in ports for unapparent reasons or hitting the shore

•Compass added
•Return to course added
•Several fixes to ship recognition manual
•Depth under keel added
•Morale reaching 0 bug fixed
•Several crew abilities (like man the deck gun and man the flack gun don’t cost morale anymore)
•Several crew animation and interaction fixes
•Fixed performance problems inside submarine
•Shadow optimizations
•Fixed very slow eye light adaptation after a lost device (alt-tab)
•Fixed selection contour being visible when a character was already selected
•Fixed a bug where the moon was closer than it should
•Fixed a bug where the sun disk would be visible underneath thick cloud cover
•Environmental lighting and effects improvements
•Improvements on particle performance on single core processors
•Fixed torpedo doors
•Fixed torpedo propeller (not turning)
•Fixed electric torpedoes trail
•Fixed spawn radius for some convoys (previously spawned on the shore)
•Fixed several dials that were not working inside the submarine
•Ports in the north Africa in the German territory are under enemy occupation
•South Africa supplies: The existence of another ship that looks identically with the targeted one may generate confusion
•No more crewmen on burning ships
•Fixed a bug where the player can get stuck in the sub's outer hatch geometry
•Crewmen on deck change clothes during bad weather
•German language localization fixes
The one we see now. :
- Fix for CO2 not being saved correctly
- Fix for crew morale
- Fix for weather being reset to clear weather after load
- Fixes for crewmen showing under water under certain conditions
- Fixes for ships exploding in ports or hitting the shore
- Now plot course tool is no longer accessible in the bunker

- Fixed several dials that were not working inside the submarine
- Fixed a bug where the player can get stuck in the sub's outer hatch geometry
- Fixed a problem with magnetic detonators didn't work properly

Features

Improvements

Campaign
- Ports in the North Africa in the German territory are under enemy occupation
- South Africa supplies: The existence of another ship that looks identically with the targeted one may generate confusion
- Fixed spawn radius for some convoys (previously spawned on the shore)
And nothing at all about the map plotting being not saved(in either list) which to me and im sure anyone else is quite important. It's a real pain to have to re-do it all every time you come back to a saved game, cause you then have to first re-aquire the contact and then re-plot his position and course.
And something else that was in the original list called "shadow optimization" which I assume has to do with the shadows showing thru the tower making it ok more like it's fiberglass than steel.
And the morale resetting each time to reload isn't in this newest list either. Thats another biggie.

What about,
* ship`s behaviour?
* speed of merchants
* more surface ships
* save game problems
* other problems after loading of game
* stadimeter problems
* ........etc...etc...
I am disappointed.

...I live in hope. If not TheDarkWraith has figured out that the Mast Height is not being sent when using the stadimeter - it stays at 20m hence the higher the mast the bigger the error.
But hes working on a fix that the user can imput the mast height manually via a dial. I've done up a dial for him to use in his Notebook part oh his Mod.
So here's hoping his sucessful with that.. If the patch doesn't sort it out.

Yes but what the devs are doing is at the core coded level, the very heart of things as it were. Not just what's accessable to us. And it all has to be tested over and over and then reworked again.
Now our fine and generous modders are awesome, no denying that. But they are working with an existing game which has been built from nothing, with a game engine which was already built.
And there is a very large difference between modding, and developing fom scratch.
Compare it to making modifications to an already built house, to building the house itself. it took a lot more work and time and people to build that house, but to make modifcations to that house requires only a few people, and only a few pieces of work here and there.
So it's one thing to mod, and quite another to design, develop and build.

You know I normally try to avoid negative posts but well - such a long time to wait for so little in the way of a patch!
Sure Ubi and the developers must be thanked for their efforts - though I wonder if there will be any continuing support for the game after this -
This is really a little paltry - considering the woefull state of the game
On a lmore positive note I wonder if any one at Ubi can confirm - were there enogh global sales of this game to merit future add-ons or patches or is this Good Night And Close?
The modders are keeping me interested, just, the publishers dont seem to give a dam
Best Regards to Subsimmers

I think, imho, it will be curtains...
there are more lucrative games under their licence,
the newest list of fixes has decreased (seemingly),
as kylania said in another thread, their other game releases have attained numerous patches already,
a lot more support than SH5...
not looking good.

Maybe the Devs ran into problems with the patch..... But as it was taking soooo long they dropped the items that they were having problems with. And hopfully will be working on the items dropped from the patch list, next.
Lets hope that the support will continue.

what puts me of is the fact that it took 2 more weeks and there is no changes in the patch contents whatsoever. I thought some things would be added to the patch. I see none whatsoever. I mean comeon what have they been doing ? been on holiday devs while leaving the patch for what it is? I thought at leasts the the VIIB conning model would be fixed to be more historical. I also have strong feelings that after this patch will be the last.

I´ll tell you... they think: let´s release this last patch for this bloody fanatic community and this ... game. It has to be the worst selling game in the last years... and so they are focusing on new projects as the 50% developed SH5 does not produce any good rumor or sales. They won´t be able to make any profit.. so hopefully that´s it with ubisoft!!
I pray that we will get another well done Silent Hunter from any other publisher!! But for the next 4-7 years... there will be nothing in my eyes.

SH 5 MODS Workshop = 16.000 post
Silent Hunter 4 = 160.000 post
SH 4 MODS Workshop = 100.000 post
Silent Hunter 3 = 250.000 post
SH 3 Workshop = 200.000 post

Forum stats on the front page only go back to July 2005, ie four months after SH3 was released. To get the correct SH3 figures, you need to tally up the (unique) posts in the archived forum as well... http://www.subsim.com/phpBB_archive1/

I would think that a properly-functioning stadimiter is a whole lot more important than the gramophone.
Exactly, just like the torpedo props not turning which is only a visual thing, and only nice if you unrealisticly follow it just to watch it.
I personally dont care about this.
I want the functionality things fixed, and as for the gramaphone I fixed that myself with a simple cfg file change, same as the radio and a few others.
We need them to fix what we cannot.
No mention of losing the DRM ball and chain. Still a show stopper in my book.
Same here

I wouldnt look for the DRM to go away anytime soon. At least until the game has gone past it's initial sales and is no longer much of a threat to profits if pirated.
So like a shark that has you in it's jaws, he aint lettin go in spite of all the hollerin and screamin.

She doesnt know exactly when or if all details are true.
I guess another patch is better than the morale going to zero and the chef hanging me for 9 weeks 4 days and 11 hours till next meal, by which time I'm gonna be like a Marasmus or kwashiorkor kid, that the sailors would see my ribs..

I wouldn't be surprised if this were true.

What happened to this?
•SH4 ships can now be imported (useful for modders)
You can fix everything you like but without a good varied selection of merchants and warships for all nations. The is no immersion at all.
Have stopped playing the game due to seeing the same ships over and over again.
So i really hope that the above fix has not been dropped from the patch.

I guess one just hopes that the omission is simply typical Ubisoft incompetence in cutting and pasting...
...otherwise, yeah, well, add another year until SH5 surpasses SH3.
Anyway, I didn't think this feature would be necessary? Didn't SH5 ship with a number of mod tools used by the devs? Didn't Ubisoft claim SH5 to be the most moddable of the series? Yet we had cloned units ("additional merchants") less than two months after SH3 release, and that occurred without any special import function. And weren't people porting SH3 ships over to SH4 within mere weeks? Why then, is such a feature necessary for the most moddable game of the series? :hmmm::06:

Maybe Ubisoft realized that if they put this option in the patch, they can't sell later their own payware AddOn or DLCs with additional ships because everything has already been made by the community.;)

Yes. I believe it will be better known under the alternative name of "Patch 1.2".
:haha:
ROFL....
If UBI built a Sports car:
Here is your NEW SPORTS CAR. Sure looks Pretty dont it! :yeah:
Oh we didnt have budget or schedule to finish the engine, so we installed a 2 cycle mower engine that has a top speed of 20 mph. But we installed the engine mounts, electrical, and fuel system for a V-12... and we know all you talented car buffs will be able to build it like we envisioned.
Oh and occasionally the transmission will go in reverse and crash you into a wall or other drivers. But we left the software open for modders to fix the bugs that cause that..so that shouldnt be an issue.
And one more thing.... instead of a steering wheel we welded on a metal bar to interface with, you know…time constraints and all. Yes yes....we know you dont like the way it looks...but hey...It works right. We made it so its easily removed and you can put on a new steering wheel with a fine leather circumference that fits the car better.
Once the car modders get done....watch out Ferrari...we have one hot car to sell.
Wait.... why isnt anyone buying our car? Must be a niche market for this car...lets go make more console games.
:har: :haha: I crack myself up.

In which case they should have made damn sure that there were more targets , both neutral and enemy before they released the game.
I uninstalled SH5 to wait for the patches release (as I had been tinkering with the AI) If we can't import more ships into the game, I can see me playing SH3 GWX only for the foreseeable future.
It's way too boring sinking the same seven types - especially without neutral shipping too.

I'm not so sure about that, addons are always welcome as long as they bring new functionality eg Playable destroyers with appropriate devices etc to the table. As talented as our modders are I'm sure they would be the first to admit that there are a lot of things that only the devs can do.

Thanks UBISOFT!!! Can't wait to play it. Personally I think the game has been playing great, but this patch will make it much better. Again thanks Ubisoft!!
