i am having a little trouble with the ship identification system at the moment. i was wondering if someone would be willing to create a mod that would automatically identify a ship that i am targeting once it comes within a certain distance?im starting to venture more into the sim side of SHV and really liking it, but ill be damned if i can manage to match the pictures to the ships lol. If noone is willing to make this happen could someone point me in the direction of the appropriate reading materials to attempt this myself? im willing to try it ( all though it will probably end in a reinstall of the game for me hehe) just dont know where to start

Plenty of command key mods that add the Identify key to the commands.cfg so for instance hit "Shift I" and it identifies.

i have a key map mod that uses shift+I to identify unfortunately something went haywire and it wont work anymore......sometimes i cant even do the manual lookup. i figured if their was an auto mod i could fix the whole problem seeing as i hate looking them up manually lol
I see, what others mods are you using? Maybe a fresh install and patch to 1,1 would help your issue.

i am using darkwraiths ui mod, the churches keymap mod, i was using ailclouds mod a damage mod as well. turned off the environment mods and the damage mod while trying to trouble shoot......might just have to try a fresh install......btw thanks for teaching me how to use the tdc.....great vids man!!!!
Your very welcome. I plan on doing some more showing how to use all the cool UI's we have now.

tried this last night......worked on 1 ship in a convoy but not for the rest.

it identified one ship. the rest of them it did not. the identify target showed up in the notepad on the lower right but the ship was never identified in the dialogue box with the tdc inputs in it.

You have to identify the ship yourself in the XO TDC box.

when i got it to automatically id ships before it changed the name in the tdc dialogue box when i hit the comman d to identify it.
what command was associated with that command key?

I opened up commands.cfg (TheDarkWraith's UI mod 2.0.0 has been used).. and just got lost.
Can someone point me to where in the commands.cfg file it is that I can try and set up a hotkey for Ship Identification?
I know TDW has it set up in his.. but it's mouse clicking and that's a killer on my system. Hotkeys are a necessity for me.

i cant wait to see them. i started playing and always did the point and shoot thing because i had no real clue as to how to use the tdc....now i do, and i love it!!!! except for looking up ships so that i can use the stadimeter......i can never tell what in the hell im looking at!!

im not sure exactly what youre your looking for im not all that computer literate. its the identify ship command.

if you open up the file \data\Cfg\Commands.cfg you will find entries like this:

Name=Systems_control;Weapons_mng
Contexts=1
Key0=0x49,,"I"
search for the highlighted in yellow part and I'm wanting to know what it's Name= is.

as soon as i get home i will find it. is it the data file from the ui you made or will it be in the the actual game folder?

Oh.. I suddenly realize this isn't the "fix" but you looking for where the Shift + I command for identification is in the code. Yeah.. I looked for it for an hour and could never find it.
I know.. I'll go look at one of those key mapper mods and see what they've done and that can help me narrow it down... brb..

that is the same command I'm issuing with WEPS-->Torpedo Attack-->Identify target so I don't understand why he is having issues identifying targets with it. Could be that some mod he has is using a different command for that.....

I'm going to use your mod (as always because I LOVE IT) and see if Shift + I works without using the icons with the mouse... I'll report back.

I haven't mapped the key to anything with the mod so it should do nothing...you'll have to edit your commands.cfg file and add that key if you want to test it.

I did a copy/paste from Church's mod on that command (what I pasted above) into my commands.cfg.
That's all I had to do? Shift + I should work for me now?

yes as long as you added it to the end of the file and adjusted the [Cmdxxx] to be the next incremental # AND a search for that key reveals it isn't being used somewhere else.

It Worked.. I just took Church's bit there and pasted it on the same command line and whammo....
Periscope.. lock on target. Shift + I. Target identified. phew. Thanks TDW !

i think ive got it sorted. i uninstalled , reinstalled and now its working. not sure what happened but as long as its working im happy. thanks for all the help and suggestions everyone!!
