What about this mod? I remember we talked about that since SH3... Is it possible for SH5?
Would be great to be able to turn faster for dock maneuvres and for escaping tactics...

i take this as a NO :hmmm:

I haven't tried messing with it yet...too busy with my UIs mod, flag mod, and exhaust mod.....in time I will.....

no prob Dark you're doing a great job, thank you!
I'm not asking to do the mod, just if it would be possible because i heard that all the boats in SH5 has only one point of propulsion :nope:

there are two dials for propulsion but then again SH3 and 4 had two dials available but no matter what you set them to it didn't do anything other than issue one speed command to both shafts.

i'm not a modder and maybe i'm wrong but i think that we see two propellers but the code of the game is made to "see" only one propeller... in that case i think will be impossible to have 2 points of propulsion (left/right)
I hope not...

When you're recharging batteries only one propeller spins. The other machine is at higher RPM as well. So it's technically possible to make the propellers do separate things at the same time, I'm not sure we have access to that level of control though.

sorry english is not my language so it's difficult to explain for me...i mean, even if you see just one propeller moving (recharging betteries) it doesnt mean that the spin is made by that propeller. The code could be implemented to see only one point for spin, maybe between the propellers...

wonder what the two dials assigned to those are showing :hmmm:

Another problem: if the u boat used only one propeller for spin while recharge batteries, it means that using only one propeller doesnt make the boat turn... or maybe they used a little correction on the rudder to move srtaight?

If they did, it would show up in the rudder dial, wouldn't it?
One solution for adding seperate engine functionality, would be to give a starting rudder value that would show up as 0 in the dials
Then you would have something like this
Gear1 Gear2 Rudder
1 1 0
1 2 +0.1(for example, i can calulate it)
1 3 +0.2
1 4 +0.3
1 5 +0.4
2 1 -0.1
2 2 0
2 3 +0.1
2 4 +0.2
.....

It's not so easy to say...maybe the game don't show this correction on the dial.
Or in a bad case it means that using separate engines control havn't any influence on the boat course...

Yeap but I believe it can be done, check post above

On a related note, would it be possible to do the long range trick advertised in the loading screens? Where a u-boat would only run one engine but spin both shafts by way of the motors?

And on another related note, is it possible to have seperate animations for the left and right engines so that when charging batteries you can see that one engine is clearly running faster than the other, instead of just differing tachometer dials?

added 2 dials to the main HUD display: Port Engine RPM (dial type 2 - the left dial) and Stbd Engine RPM (dial type 3 - the right dial). Submerged the sub and ran on batteries until about 25% left. Surfaced and switched to recharge mode. Speed was set to ahead slow. Noticed that the port engine RPM was set for ahead slow (20% on dial) and stbd engine RPM was set to ahead flank (recharging batteries - 100%). So we have independent control of the shafts now we just have to figure out the correct command to give for each to use them independently :D

intrigued by my findings I decided to take this one step further and monitor the port and starboard throttles (dial types 43 and 44). I submerged and drained the batteries down to 50% using ahead flank. Reduced speed to ahead slow and surfaced. Recharge mode was set and the starboard engine RPM went to 100% (second dial from left) showing that the engine was running at full speed to recharge the batteries. But the port and starboard throttles (last two dials on the right) stayed at the ahead slow setting. This means that they still didn't give us indepedent throttle control for the shafts :nope: One throttle command is used for both shafts.....c'mon Ubi, what's the deal here? We've been asking for this since SH3 :stare:

I think may be the UBISOFT Developers need to leave some " Brand New " features ( about 2012 ) for the ( even more improved ) next version of this serie , the  Silent Hunter 6 :yeah:

Ubisoft just done a copy / paste of the past series . they only improved graphics and allowed us to run trought the u boot! :nope: All the rest is only smoke in the eyes... If the game is getting better day by day is just thanks to the modders works!!!
