whenever i talk to a crew member they say "Ja bitte herr kaleun"

this translates to "yes please sir" as far as im aware of. Sounds weird in english, but in german maybe it is supposed to be like that. Anyone know if this is the case? If not id like to see if i can change it.

Picking up German when I lived there was a bit tricky because I had to put words in what I thought was a strange order.

To us it sounds strange -> I'm going bread to get store the.

It's an exaggeration but the sentence structure/order is different than English.

Yeah from the basic German I remember Bitte does mean please but can also mean Bitte? as in how can I help etc

Isn´t "yes, please?" in the meaning of "what can i do for you?" used in english, too? I´m pretty sure it is.

Imho the easiest translation is : "Sir?" or "Captain?"

I'd say it translates to "Yes, go ahead" as in "please go ahead and say what you want to say". Anyway, it is correct in German.

Oh and by the way, i've always been curious, what's the difference between ja and jawohl ?

Jawohl is more formal and (maybe) slightly stronger and also used more comonly as answer to orders or requests, so it´s more likely to be heard in the military and fancy restaurants.

It could also be used satirically ("bring down the garbage, honey" "jawohl") and i guess it´s used more often in the south.
