I want to mod the underwater hydrophone depth charge sound, but it winds up being 2.4 Mb in size and runs for 26 seconds. Is this going to be, ah, bad?

Not sure there is a limit, i used an interior ambience mod a while back that had a 30min mp3 track looping to provide the background noise inside the sub.

+As for filesizes you can get away with dropping the quality massively, no need for 320kbps stuff here, 128 or even 64 will do just fine as with all the other background noises you`ll never hear the difference anyway.

If in doubt id say try it and see, maybe grab a few beta testers to check it out on various systems to be sure it doesnt cause problems.

Cool beans. :)

As an aside, this is a great place to pick up all sorts of naval and sea sounds: http://www.hnsa.org/sound/index.htm

Also the file must be mono not stereo!

Also the file must be mono not stereo!...That's not quite right.
The speech *.ogg files have to be in mono. Not the *.wav files in 'Sound' folder... ;)

Thanks mates! I've made the sound mod but I won't know how it works until I get depthcharged.

Oddly enough, I'm not really in any hurry to have that happen though. :smug:

Then you take the torpedoe tutorial. Attrack both destroyers then
you will know enough...

Well, I got to test it out. Not my preferred method of testing by any means. :dead:

The mod changes the sound of the underwater depth charge explosion heard by the hydrophone. It's 26 seconds long, and is an actual sound recording from inside a submarine of a depth charge going off 300 yards away.

I don't know what, if any, degradation to escorts hydrophones this may cause; sure would be nice if it made it hard for the buggers to hear me! :yep:

The only drawback to this mod is this: if you're listening on the hydrophones and hear the sound, and you exit the hydrophones while it's still playing, it will continue to be heard whereever you are until it finishes. However, if you first rotate the hydrophone away from the sound, it stops and you can exit the hydrophone room without waiting.

My only question is: how do I upload it should anyone want to try it out and/or use it?
