View Full Version : How To Find Specific Object in Sub to Modify It? ?

So, I'm feeling brave and creative and want to take the next step.

My problem is I can't find anything in the subdirectories that I am looking for.

I am looking for the Enigma Machine and have no idea where to look. I've been looking now for 3 hours and am just lost in subdirectories of subdirectories of subdirectories of directories.

Do I load up Goblin Editor and use that to find the properties of some object and that leads me to what file it is that I need to modify?

Any advice?

You'll find it under data/submarine/common/rooms/qr1.gr2

It's not it's own object but part of a room so I don't think you can modify it.. yet.

As of this date?

You can not modify the GR2 files.
You could add things by a seperate file.
Much like the Smoke Mod for Subs.

Things can be removed or added to the GR2 files.
But it's not for the faint of Heart to even attempt.

It falls in the VooDoo Hex area!

You know we are the
'UnClean'
Don't you?
:haha:

Not slamming S3D and such.
But when a new version comes out that old tools don't
work for?

Who can you depend on?
Those Damned Hex Witches!

It is about time that UBI came out with an SDK kit to reward all the hard work done by modders. You guys have lifted SH from nothing to something and made it possible for UBI to keep making sub sims. They know they can put out a half finished product and you guys will always pick it up and fix things and improve the whole game.

Thanks all. :salute:

The Devs are behind many of us.
They take time to answer what questions they can without risking thier jobs.
They care more than most give them credit for.
They also pay a heavy price in areas many are not aware of.

I feel I'm a very lucky person to have met Dan in Texas.
There's very few people in this World that impress me.
Dan is one of those persons.
Neal is another, but that's a whole different story.

Well, I'm playing around with the Goblin Editor and started merging and building the submarine from the various rooms. Of course.. I don't know what I'm doing but I'm walking around the sub and looking at things from angles and locations not allowed in the SH5 interface. Seeing lots of detail.

I wish I could click on an object (say Enigma Machine) and then be able to find the file/object that is.. so I can replace it.. or add things in various locations.. whatever. Maybe it's just a pipe dream. :)

No, I am actually smarter than that and make programs that actually work, save time and make sense... :smug:

I beg to differ on the saves time....I can do things much faster with hex editor. But to each their own
