I am making both the South Dakota and Montana. Both are career playable. I know that the Montana has been made a couple of times before, but I have always wanted a Montana that looked more like how the Montana was supposed to look like.

I wish someone could build a realistic battleship fire control system interface for use in SH4. It would be great to have a real battleship simulator with these gorgeous SH4 graphics/textures.....

Im taking a liking to playing BB in SHIV, nothing better than cruising round the pacific blasting convoys not one or two ships but the whole convoy! :rotfl2:

im sorry to say but you make a mistake with the south dakota ( or maybe im just very blind or its the camera angle which fail me ) but the south dakota only have 4 dual 5" turret on each side not 5, and they are set that way '. .' ( the ' is a turret over the . which is another turret 1 stage lower ) and if im not mistaken you set 5 turret this way '. '.-
so let me quote from wikipedia as in the secondary armement ( the dual 5" im talking about ) :
Because South Dakota was built as a fleet flagship, the extra command and control space needed for these duties necessitated that the secondary battery be limited to sixteen 5-in (127 mm) 38 caliber Mark 12 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5%22/38_caliber_gun) guns in eight Mark 28 Mod 0 dual mounts, four on either side of the superstructure.
Its was the USS massachusetts, USS Alabama and USS indiana which had 5 turret, but those where late version, the USS South Dakota was basicly made for Flagship operation so needed space for their control that why only 4 turret :) but correct me if im wrong :) no personnal harm intend :P
or if you want to keep 5 turret youll have to compact them a bit :P

Actually, the entire ship is modelled after the Massachusets.

oh i see hmm good point here, but now i got this little problem in texturing, maybe you could fix that for me

as you can see the 2 main turret got a somewhat different texture, what i know that the turret we can use and shoot with have the correct texture you setted but the 2 other turret dont have the texture why? and how to fix :)

Do you have any mods that will change the textures of the stock 16 inch guns? if so run them before this mod.

The only mods I see that can change the files are TMO and new ships + Yamato AA fix. Try it without them. If it doesn`t work, then open the Guns_Radar_03.dat in data/Library/ShipParts in the main SH4 folder with S3D and see if there is a cammo texture there. Also none of my mods are compatible with TMO, RFB and FOTRS.

you were right its was the new ship + yamato AA fix which make the gun texture messed up, thx, its fixed now :)

I've been using your excellent Montana mod: LOVE IT!
It seems to work fine with FOTRS v1.3? Why do you believe it is incompatible with that Supermod? Campaigns seem to work fine; missions with the Montana sometimes start with the ship underwater and unable to fire or move, but otherwise it works fine. I've been playing with it all morning in FOTRS v. 1.3.

Well the only way to know is to test it with all the supermods. I do believe that if you try it with RFB and TMO you won`t have any crew members.
Montana don't work in SH4 1.5 career mode. She does not show up in the list of subs. What is the problem? Help me.

Are you sure you have only 1.5? If you have any mods such as RSRDC, TMO, RFB or FOTRS this mod will not work.
I am absolutely sure, i have only 1.5 + playable iowa.

That says everything. You can`t have two playable ship mods at the same time as the last mod will overwrite all the files enabled from the first. If you have the Iowa after the Montana then I will reccomend that you deactivate it.

None of my mods are compatible with any super mods such as RFB, TMO, FOTRS, Battle for the Baltics and We dive at dawn etc.

Actually, there is a Montana Class that is suited for RFB. Check the download section. Adds better range and speed control of the ship.
Just wish it didn't take so many 16in shells to sink a small cargo ship.

Nothing wrong to look like a nerd. Also you are correct about the secondary guns. That is why I made some big changes to the South Dakota. I have posted a few pics to present the changes I have made. Now she`s as compact as I could possibly make her without loosing any resemblance to the real thing.

Im having the same problem as a previous poster, the ship doesnt show up anywhere in the play modes, looked under career, quick mission and war patrol.. i only have this mod installed, im running stock sh 1.5 with no mods.

Check if there`s a folder called Montana. If the folder Montana or has a folder called Data then there should be no reason for it to not work. See if there`s a data folder in the map you put in the mods folder. Maybe you put the Montana_V1.0 in the folder if so only put the Montana in the mods folder. If none of these work then we would have to turn to outside help.

Tried her at the battle of samar against three kongos and the yamato. Sank two of the kongos and the yamato before the last kongo and cruisers got me.

First I would like to thank you for this mod. I have been having so much fun blasting away at the convoys and escorts. I have a few questions regarding the mod.
-Is there anyway to know how much damage you have sustained?
-is there anyway to reduce the amount of jap airplanes? The career mod is almost unplayable because the planes don't stop coming. I run out of AA ammo before I can get to patrol area.

Press F10, there you should see the ship and all the systems. there is also a bar showing how much damage the ship has taken. Last time I engaged a jap BB I got hit maybe 4-5 times. The damage was 32%.
As for mods that reduces air traffic. I do not know many mods that do that, most have probably been deleted. I know that you have to change a few things in the Sim.cfg in the cfg folder.

Thanks, I guess there is something wrong with my damage indicators. I can see that my ship takes damage (on fire), but there is no damage indicated on F10 screen.
I'm going to try to approach the patrol area from a different direction to try and avoid jap air patrols. If that doesn't work they I will just have to play without completing the mission. CO may not appreciate that!
Again thanks for your hard work on all these mods. I'm really liking the surface warfare!

When using stock 1.4 or 1.5 the ship is kinda super ship. Try with OM. That works for me. For some reason when using OM the ship takes more damage than with stock.

And Karle i have a small bug to report and a fix for it:
When you start a new career i always like to start inside the harbor
the montana starts on the peer not next to it.

Karle94, Montana is great, I can't decide which is my favorite ship mod now. Been playing the Montana in career since you released the new version, and she seems flawless, I've had no issues. Once again great job!

Not playable. I have made an AI rebuilt Nevada. As for the Texas, there are none for SHIV. The New York and Texas are included in SHV

Its amazing how stealthy the montana seems to be in one of those storms that dont allow you to see anything. I snuck up on a task force and sunk all of the ships without really being "found" :P

I would reccomend that you use my new Montana. I made a new 3D model and overall improved the ship.

Also i have changed some values and that would mean i have to start all over again :p

Hi Karle started playing around with the 1.2 version and i have changed a few minor settings.
I first lowered the ship (gc_height is now set at 2)
I also increased the drag so the ship is not moving around so much it should be heavy (up/down drag set to 1,0)
There is one thing that puzzles me the aft cannon is not centered like the others. Any idea which file needs to be edited?

Hi Karle started playing around with the 1.2 version and i have changed a few minor settings.
I first lowered the ship (gc_height is now set at 2)
I also increased the drag so the ship is not moving around so much it should be heavy (up/down drag set to 1,0)
There is one thing that puzzles me the aft cannon is not centered like the others. Any idea which file needs to be edited?

USA_Montana.sim. Open the last obj_turret, open the traverse node and edit min and max traverse. It didn`t work beacuse I didn`t know, and still don`t know witch number to put in those two sections.

Nw the turret will fire at any ships within 360 degrees, meaning the aftermost turret shoot through the ship.

You could copy the values from number 3 turret, but min=50 max=310 I think should be OK. They're degrees.

Thanks. It`s impossible tp find the turret you want among all those guns. I really need those numbers. I will apply them to the Montana and Vanguard.

I`ve been working on a 1.3 version of the SoDak. Did some minor 3D adjustments and added an extra dusin AA guns. I tested her in the Battle
of Midway. Here`s some pics:

Guilty as charged. how can they court martial me if I`m dead? One battleship for three battleships, three carriers, five dstroyers. I`d say that`s a good ratio, it could even clear my name.
