Just a quick question.

What do I need to edit to make it possible to start with 2nd Flotilla at Wilhelmshaven at the outbreak of war? Like patch 1.4b made possible.

I assume it's something in flotilla.cfg?:06:

Any suggestions? I'm running the revival dvd release v1.4

Thanx.

If you run the game with SH3 Commander

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=147237

you can start in any month of any year, from any available flotilla, with any historically available boat :DL

Yes, that's true, but I'm not using that as it alters other files like basic.cfg etc which I've edited myself to my own liking.

At least that's my experience anyway.

Is there something in the flotilla.cfg file that I can change instead?:hmmm:

1.4 (not 1.4b).

No mods other than some additional ships and some editing I did myself to things like basic.cfg.

I'm not sure what other files you may be editing but I'm also using a manually tweaked basic.cfg file and the latest version of Commander with no issues... I actually use Commander to tweak my basic.cfg even more for different date ranges. So far Commander hasn't interfered with anything I've modded or tweaked either manually or with JSGME. Depending on what edits you're making and to which files, it might be possible to use Commander without any conflicts or even use it to help with that process.

Maybe the new SH3 Commander doesn't do this.

I just remember my basic.cfg being changed whenever I ran SH3 Commander in the past (admittedly this was about 3 years ago).

Pity that the new dvd release isn't v1.4b, then I wouldn't have this problem.

There's a file in Commander called 'static settings.cfg' that can be used to tweak the basic.cfg file. But in the current version it's essentially devoid of 'active content' and just contains an explanation of how to use it to tweak the game's cfg files when you load it via Commander, if that's what you want to do.

It can be used to tweak only certain sections of a cfg file and leave the rest alone, which is what I do. I don't think there's anything in the current version of Commander that will overwrite your basic.cfg completely unless you deliberately go in and set it up to do that. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

Hmm... might be worth investigating in the future:hmmm:

IIRC is v1.4 = v1.4b ! There was only one patch for SHIII v1.4 and that is v1.4b!

You can check out the User Guide for the current version here:

http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/documentation/SH3CUG.pdf

There is also an automatic 'rollback' option with Commander, if you select that any changes it makes to the game will be undone when you exit the game. So even if it did alter something you had edited or modded, your game files would revert back to their 'pre-Commander' state as soon as you exited the game and you could then investigate any unwanted changes Commander made in order to deal with them before you used it again.

I thought that too, but the one I bought from amazon.co.uk just says v1.4 and 2nd Flot. at Wilhemshaven is not available in 1939. You can only pick that Flotilla October '40 at Lorient, not before then.

The original v1.4 patch corrected this, but the current dvd release hasn't got it.:damn:

Yes, it does. I'm using the latest release and it is fully patched to 1.4b

Also, if you're not using Commander you are missing out on the best part of the game.

There was never a '1.4' patch.....1.3 went straight to 1.4b.

PS: The Readme from the Flottillas Mod.

Flotilla Mod Readme 1.0 (for SH3 version 1.1): (for easier reading, click on 'Edit', then select 'Word Wrap' in the pull-down menu).
This mod fixes some bugs and historical flaws with the game's flotilla listings. It also adds 2nd Flotilla as 'starting' Flotilla in 1939.
IMPORTANT: please note that this mod is in no way supported or endorsed by Ubisoft. It is an unofficial patch intended purely to enhance everyone's enjoyment of the game.
----------------------------
Installation instructions:
First, make a back-up copy of your original SH3/data folder and all its contents. This may take a few minutes, but it ensures that you'll be able to reverse all data folder changes if necessary (most unofficial mods will adjust files in the data folder, so doing this will keep a backed-up original version of the game). Then, using Winzip (or another Zip utility), simply extract all files into the SilentHunterIII folder. When you extract the files, the program may ask you if you want to overwrite files: click on yes for all files.
----------------------------
Version 1:
Fixed 7th Flotilla bug which caused 7th Flotilla to be assigned two bases after August 1940.
1st Flotilla data altered - changed starting port for 1939 to 1940 campaigns, changed U-boat assignment for 1940 campaign. Changed menu screens to reflect this change.
2nd Flotilla data altered - adding starting port and campaign data for 1939.Changed menu screens to reflect this change.
7th Flotilla data altered - removed Type XXI.
33rd Flotilla data altered - removed Type XXI.
Fixed bug that gave patrols in the Sahara desert (in grid square DJ81) - changed to DJ18.
