View Full Version : Odd Problem (CTD)

Here's something I've never experienced before. Finished a patrol & was RTB. As I approached the base (Fremantle) SH4 would CTD, consistently. No idea why.
During this patrol I had encountered a Takao-class CA which I sank, but never received credit for. And I could not complete my last assignment ("conduct anti-shipping operations along the Palawan Passage") as I was out of torps. But apart from these oddities the patrol behaved normally.
Any ideas? No mods except for TMO, RSRDC, Nav Map Make-Over & WEbster's Better Air Patrols.

I'm having a similiar problem. Constant CTDs when I start missions in port, or come near ports.

Running RFB2.0 + RSRDC

Try uninstalling the mods, then put them back in one at a time.

Zero Niner, TMO and RSRDC shouldn't give any issues unless you got a bad download. It happenned the first time I downloaded TMO 1.9. I had to redownload it. But it could happen with any mod. Then try adding in the other 2 mods one at a time. If you use the radio station mods, I would highly recommend Digital Trucker's Radio Station Manager. It will help to keep the radio programs up to date, and if there are any missing files it will let you know as those too can cause a CTD consistantly.

If coming close to port causes it when ending the patrol, make sure to save a few hours to a day out from your base. If you are using TC to home quick, slow it down incrementally before you get to the point where the option to end mission, refuel and rearm option pops up. If you haven't, just postpone it, and give it a few minutes. The little anchor icon comes up and stays up, so you can manually pull up the option window for ending your patrol. That usually helps.

Weird thing is that I've not had any problems prior. This is my 3rd patrol using the same set of mods ie nothing's been changed. It just developed when I was RTB after finishing a patrol.
I started a new career & immediately headed back to base as soon as the mission started. Same thing - CTD.

Running Windows 7 Home edition.

Ok, if it is CTDing immediately after starting a carreer, and you've not left port, it's possible something got corrupted.

I hate to say to try it, but in your documents folder, look for SH4 folder, and try deleting it. It will wipe everything out, like your settings for video and sound and realism.

One thing you could try, is to use a few different start dates to see if it's consistant. I haven't had that problem in so long, but I think I had to do a re-install to correct it.

Also, what version of SH4 and TMO are you running? Not to be be redundant, but the latest version of TMO 1.9 I think was made to accomodate the Uboat add-on, so I'm trying to put the pieces together, as opposed to prying.

But I really want to avoid your having to do a complete re-install to get it up and going again.

I had problems with this earlier in my career when I was returning to friendly ports...the problem has gone away except for the fact that I now can't approach enemy ports (sitting outside Truk right now, can't get in because I CTD every time I try to go to the bridge or one of my periscopes). I think reinstalling just TMO was enough to get it working, can't remember for sure though.

So I wonder then if it is maybe a problem with a ship model, or terra firma object, or an artfile. :hmmm:

I tried to head into Truk slowly this time, it seems that as I get closer my framerate starts to drop. The game appeared to freeze as I got to one point so I tried to pause the game. My framerate, normally jammed all the way up at 60, came back to 40 (from 3-4). After turning my graphics settings all the way down, I tried it again and it did the same thing...same numbers and everything, 39-40 with the game paused. If I try to run in with the time compression above one than it just crashes flat out.

I've uninstalled & reinstalled the game. Started a new career in same time frame & fleet. As soon as the patrol started, I RTB and was able to dock.
Now on my 1st patrol of the new career. We'll see how it goes.

Keep us posted Zero Niner. Which I'm sure you will, especially if it starts going south.

Tanedin, why would your frame rate drop so low? Is it your vidcard?

I can't imagine that it would be my video card, the framerate drop happens regardless of what I have the video settings on. I get the same problem with the graphics settings all the way down as I do with them all the way up.

Finished my 1st patrol since I reinstalled & was able to dock with no problems.
Hmmm... could the game's auto updater be the cause? My last install, I started the game from the start menu (instead of the icon on desktop that point directly to the exe). There was a quick glimpse of an auto update window and that was where the problems started.
