Hey everyone,

I've been working on some skins and I have come across a problem Im not sure how to handle. I was hoping someone might have a fix or a tip on how to correct it.

Using the mask_type7 file to cover the snorkel portion of the deck I have noticed that there is a "hole" approximately 5 to 7 pixels wide and about 20 - 30 pixels long located just port and aft of the fore hatch, port of the deck gun. Despite increasing the size of the skin [length and height] it has no effect on coverage.

Has anyone else working skins run into this problem? If so, did they find a solution or has one been made available?

Thanks! :salute:

Can you post a screen Shot?
It sounds like the 3D Model may be off a bit?

Sure .... Ill post a screen shot np .. just gotta figure out how to do that ... its been a long time since I have done that  .....

I did a quick look at the 3D models.
I'd bet it's just that the Snorkel Mask 3D object is a tad to small.
So you get a wierd effect if you zoom in to much.
You can just upload the image and send me a link
if you want.
I'll post it here then.

Yeah,

I bet that is it exactly ... hopefully you can see the piccy in my album ... its pretty noticable to me anyway.

Yep.
The Mask Model is to short as circled in Green.
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n12/privateer_2006/hole-in-deck.jpg

The Mask 3D Object needs resized, re-UV Mapped
and placed in the Sensors.dat with a new name.
Then the cfg files would need adjusted also.

Or do work on the 7B hull which is a pain in the hoo hoo!

Ok, let's do that then!:yep:

I'll get to it this weekend.
Shouldn't take much time from other works in progress.
You may want to check other Subs also.
May as well do all that need fixed at one time.

Wow! Ok super cool ... Ill get to checking those right away!

Ok first other find ... the forward torp doors on the VII seem to be hmmm about 2 pixels short ... in underwater cam mode you can get an angle and see the torp hatch. Not a big hole though ... pretty thin. The rest of the VII looks really tight though.

Is that the VII B?
Nodes need adjusted a tad most likely.
may be the same with the snorkel mask actually.
Maybe it's placement node needs moved.
:hmmm:
Still, easy enuff to do.

Oh sorry, yes that is the VIIb.
Will check the VIIc and IX series tomorrow.

Ok checked the VII's and the IX's ... seems the only problems I have found is with the VIIb. Everything else looks tight.

Hai guys -

I'm using the "Black Boat - VII - NZ" skin for my VIIB and after noticing that what I now assume is the entire snorkel portion was not covered by the skin, I looked at some other skins I had and realized the Black Boat one did not have the mask_type7 file at all. So I made one out of a 256x256 section of one of the other files and it worked fine but I still have the little unskinned "hole" referred to above.

I am clueless about how to do what you've discussed in reference to fixing it - can you elaborate pretty pretty please? Thx!

Bumping the SNK_Mask forwards a tad in S3D MAY fix this.
I've been to busy to actually do it yet.
As you'd need to adjust in S3D,
run the Game in a test mission to see the results,
and repeat as needed.

It may also require a 3D object fix.
But I'd go with the S3D route first.
:)

I did look at the Tube covers.
That will require some 3D work.
A few verts need adjusted for a perfect fit.

I don't know what this means. :wah:  :O:

Wait, are you talking about doing something in Silent3Ditor? Cuz I know I downloaded that, I've just never used it.

Yup.
That's what I mean.
:DL

Start playing with that?
Your in trouble!
:haha:

You'll be messing with EVERYTHING then.
And never play again!

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Well I will put it on hold until my current career is over at least, since I seem finally to have hit on a combination of mods that I'm happy with and that works - I've already had too many careers aborted after 2-3 patrols due to messing around with mod combos.

With any luck by then one of you guys will have solved the problem and reported the exact details of the solution. :O:

You should use 3D torpeedo door model from VIIC.:know:

Hey all,

Sorry for my delayed response ... RL work got in the way for a bit.:wah:

Ok ... also (delayed) problem found just today with the VIIC. There is a hole in the hull ... underside .. located between both screw driveshafts. If you camera under the ship and look straight up it will appear to be a rectangle running the length of the shafts (and neatly centered between them) and terminating somewhere in the area of the rudder assembly (can't tell exactly due to the assembly being in the way).

[Oh, and happy joy ... guess I'm Popeye now. :har:]

Is that stock SH3 or a mod added?

Capt. Teach
04-29-10, 09:21 AM
Its SH3 1.4b with GWX 3.0 and Commander 3.2 :salute:

Madox58

Check your file dates and sizes and post them.
I just checked a bone stock GWX 3.0 from original install build
and this problem does not exist.

Capt. Teach
04-30-10, 01:51 PM
Hmm,

Ok Ill give it another look ... test a few things ... perhaps its my skin not covering all it should.

Also ... where would I be looking for those particular files? Im guessing you want the info on the 3D models to see if they have been altered (updated) past the dates yours show.

Madox58
04-30-10, 09:49 PM
It would be in the data, submarine, NSS_Uboat7c, folder.

And unless you re-UVed the 3D model?
Your skin can not leave 'Holes'.
Unless you did an Alpha channel that's not right.
And this problem could be no further from that.

Capt. Teach
05-02-10, 01:46 AM
Oh ok,

I'll post those up ... but just to let you know ... I never mess with the 3D ... as I have no idea what I would be doing ... and would have a 99.99999999% of really mucking up the works. (Well, ok, I suppose I would know what I was doing in that I would be messing up the works. :haha:)

:yep: Edit: Also, I'll send you a piccy of that hole in the bottom of the VIIc. It only shows if you are under the ship and looking up, really tough to see [as in, you can't] from the sides.

I do skins and sound. :D

You have the 'GWX - VIIC41 Player Sub' Mod enabled.
That 7C does have a part missing.
Just checked it.

Whew! Ok, I was getting worried ... thought maybe I had done something without knowing I had done something ..as George Carlin once said "Wow man, the sixties must have been good to you." :haha: (relating to me of course)
