Lost among the GUIs

Ok, I'm at a complete loss with all those GUI Modes :damn: ( I'm probably not the only one though ), on top of it, I haven't visited the forum for a while.

Could Somebody clarify what are the differences ? ( the main GUIs and the variants )
Are some obsolete ? What are the most up to date ?
Those below are all the GUIs mentionned through the Forum that I could find.

So many choices, so little time to play-
There are a lot of GUI's to choose from and it is difficult to choose. It seems to me that the best thing to do is look at the various threads, download them, and try each one out.
I've tried it that way with a few on your list and it seems that they all have plusses and minuses. But everyone will look for something different. What one person likes in one of them, someone else may not.
I suppose one could find one they really like and mod it to there personal tastes. I'm definitely not to that point, although I've done some very minor tweeks here and there.

I'm currently using hsie's ACM Reloaded. I've also used ACM v1.1. I like both.
I'm seriously considering checking out MaGUI 3.1 and Hitman gui 1.0 for gwx.

I've checked out OLC Gold, but where I'm at with my manual targeting, it is a little too much right now. Maybe in the future I'll give that another shot.

I use Magui 3.1 exclusivly. OLC and Magui are very closely related. Raphaels mods works very well with GWX3 on their own. It really depends on ones preference. But I agree on one suggestion is to try them all. You might find what you like most and use. Like me, Magui is pretty much all I need...not to mention ENV mods like MEP or SH5 Water mods that can be added later. But that's another topic.:cool:

Most of those are just updates of the other.

Like the latest version of OLC 'Gold' MkIIa,b,c,d.
Which follows after OLC Gui Special,
Which came after OLC Gui 1.27,
Which came after OLC Gui, where it all got started...
not really, it was born at roughly the same time as the Ujagd mod, but that was made by Joegrundman, and is really a different mod using similar functionality in the attackdisk and attackperiscope.

OLCE2 is more of an environment mod that had the 'gui special' come along with it because of file dependancies. The GUI special was optional though, and could be replaced with the GUI 1.27. The Gold MkII versions are a further update on the environment changes, again with his Gui part of it. The major change in the Gui would be between OLC Gui 1.27 and the Gui Special. Since the latter has only one zoom level in the periscope and didn't require modications to the recognition manual files (because of doubled mast heights).

Most of the other GUIs you mentioned have their own descriptive thread to explain what they do. But most of OLCs threads may be hard to find since they are hidden quite deep in the dungeons of subsim.com. But you'll notice many took inspiration from his mods by how often his name (OLC) is linked to it.

Thank you all for your answers.
A poll was a good idea, but a "sticky" would be better.
A kind of chart if you prefer, decribing the main ones, what they do, what they affect, if they come as replacement of previous ones, as well as the derived ones what they do, with dates of [REL], with perhaps 2 or 3 miniature pictures.
In this way I think everybody would know without having to read long pages of description in an attempt to find what they want.

U-jagd tools isn't really a GUI-mod in the same sense as the OLC gui, MaGUI, ACM and Hitman's recent GUI masterpiece. These are total GUI overhauls that replace the stock GUI (more or less) completely.

U-jagd tools is more related to FLB Sale's periscope TDC and Simfeeling dials, in that it is a tools add-on to the stock GUI.

U-jagd tools was produced contemporaneously with OLCs gui, and I produced U-jagd tools together with OLC and Hitman. Both projects strongly influencing the other.

The U-jagd tools was the original collection of targeting tools (attack disk, u-jagd chrono, aob finder) that have since been used to some degree in every other GUI mod. Thus the tools and the techniques associated with them (such as fixed wire speed estimate) have become quite widely known now.

There is therefore no real reason to contemplate the U-jagd tools mod now unless you very much prefer the stock gui over the full GUI mods. But with so many fully developed and excellent Gui mods to choose from now, i think that few SH3 players still prefer the stock gui
