Is it possible to have a tracking external camera that will follow the players u-boat?
Or fixed external views from different angles, like in flight simulator X?
It would look cool in rough seas.

From what we've seen the "locked to ownship" camera mode is broken now since the player is the 'camera' now. Locking to other ships works if you're already in External Camera mode though.
Hopefully the devs will be able to add back in that mode. It was quite entertaining and useful in earlier games.

Well, you can 'attach' the camera to the back of the sub and have the camera 'towed' by the sub. If you get the camera near the stern and leave it alone, the sub will 'pick it up' and take it along. It was like that in SH4 too. Most odd. What you can't do, as kylania points out is to have a view of your choice.
That was my favorite view in the entire game. I admit I am not very good at this game, but I am in it for the eye candy, and loved just following my sub. I wonder what went on in the dev meetings "Hey, don't we need to keep that external view of the player's vehicle like every other game has?" "Uh, no, that is soooo been done to death. We're getting rid of that." :yeah:

The SubFolow section is still in the Camera.cam
It appears to be attached to the Cameras.GR2 file
under the Free cam
Perhaps it's not quite attached right?
And what the heck is the Pelorous cam?
:hmmm:

Hi,
I am missing this basic feature, too.
Also a standard north orientated view-direction. View to heading in the
started outside-view.
I cannot understand why they had forget this basic feature.
But if people will have sharks and dolphins first, than I fear those
basic important features will submerge.

Are you sure that's what SubFollow does? I was under the impression that was the controller to 'attach' the camera to the back of the sub and have the camera 'towed' by the sub, rather than have the camera in a static position around any unit.
A pelorous is a device with which to take bearing, so it's probably the UZO.

I think it's used to look at the compass that's in front of the UZO.. but they didn't make it clickable so it doesn't do anything.

A really cheap crappy fix: man the deck gun by clicking on it (don't go into the first person through the sights view though), and then scroll down with the mouse wheel to zoom right out. Pan the view around by moving your mouse and voila, one chase camera view :woot:
No news for the modification of this cam? :damn:
I got the external, fixed on sub view by using keymapper and assigning "Camera_on_next_unit" to a spare key. Bit of a pain getting back to first person camera though. Needed to map another key to "Camera_on_Previous_unit" which showed the boat sailing off, then use the mouse wheel in that view, which took it to Binocular view, and then zoom out from binocular view, and, hey presto, back with the gang on the bridge/conning tower. I think I've detailed what I did OK, but I'm not near my game PC at the moment - stuck in a hotel.

Hi all, I am confused by this thread.... Are you trying to enable the sub chase cam, also known as the object view cam?
If so its quite easy, you only need to enable two keys via the commands.cfg...
But one should be aware there is a reason the devs took it out in SH5, and the reason being, they broke it.
From a mod readme:
When using the follow cam, always start by hitting F2 for external cam, than go to follow cam (keys 7-8).
To exit follow cam hit F2 than ESC to go back to your boat. When surfaced and if you get locked out of your sub in external,
hit "b" for the binoculars and you will be back on station.
