This mod is dedicated to the memory of
Snaptrap 1971-2008
JSGME ready
Known bugs
-Some depth keeping problems while turning at high speed(@20m +/-).
-Auto TDC does not update entirely correctly for the increased torpedo speed, If your torpedoman is upgraded, same as vanilla sh5.
-Sub "Wriggles®" at high speed/TC(moves like a snake) when using way points. Under 25kts this goes away/under 32x TC this goes away. After ordering midship rudder this goes away.
Feature List:
1) All currently playable subs now travel at 50 kts surfaced and submerged with virtually unlimited range
2) All guns now have 32000 ammo for all shell types except SS
3) All torpedoes speeds have been increased by 100kts
4) All torpedoes damage, and explosive range have been increased by a factor of 10,magnetic detonation range increased to 20 m, and storage increased to @250 fore and @100 aft loading speed decreased to @ 3 sec
5) All currently playable subs and subsystems are now invincible to anything other than land collisions
6) All currently playable subs have increased diving and surfacing speeds
7) All sub guns fire at an increased rate of fire, and have increased ranges

update 4/24/2010, fixed subsystems taking damage, uboat still vulnerable to land collisions but I hung out with 8 destroyers shelling and ramming me for 8 hours, everything was still 100%, even hull. rammed bottom 3 times @50 kts to kill hull...
update: 4/28/2010
added camera tweaks:
increased magnification to 10x on UZO, binoculars, to 5x and 10x zoom levels with obs. and attack scopes, small tweak on free cam clip radius (changed from 1.4 to 0.4).

No, this forum is for all types of players. If you'd be bothered to look over at the SH3 and SH4 mod forums, you'd see all kinds of mods, realism oriented and fun oriented like this one.
Just because someone doesn't want to play the game the way YOU want them to, doesn't mean they're not welcome here. So shove off with that attitude.
Not everyone whats to take the time and energy to play this game as realistically as possible. For the casual gamer like me this mod makes the game far more enjoyable. For those who crave realism don't use it, but don't condemn those who do. I don't think that I have ever seen casual gamers attacking the hard core realists. To each his own as long as everyone is enjoying the game what's the harm. I for one am greatful for SnapTrap's legacy.

He was a member of this forum who wrote the original "Silent Fire" unrealism mod. He was in a car crash (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=137678) and died from his injuries. (Warning, that's a pretty heart-wrenching thread). :cry:

My brother did that with the original SF mod. At least from what I've seen him do while play testing the mod it certainly looked that way. I'm currently refreshing my mind with working on the original and maybe I can give you a hand when I'm done.
I hope you plan to add all the other things he put in his mod? Of course I've never really played SH5 much to know whether or not things such as upgrades apply.

Not a mod I will use myself, but one that I could see making the game lots of fun for a typical gamer with interest in something a little different. sounds like a fun way to waste some time killing pixels and keep the tempo up a bit. To the point, good job, and not all of us folks that want the game so real that we can smell the rust will give ya a hard time for making space invaders on a boat. would also make for a good template for more modern subs with faster fire rates and better endurance.

You may as well go further and say the same about the "GAME" itself.
How "realistic" is the career missions with the amount of tonage they want you to sink in one patrol ? An aircraft carrier on your first mission ? yes that is definately "realism". :haha:
Someone posted on these very forums about the fact some u-boats sunk hardly anything EVER! so why not get stuck into the Devs m8 for their un-realistic mission goals?
Oh and well done lorka42 both for the mod and for the dedication to Snaptrap cheers m8 and thank you.

I thought this forum was for everybody who played SH, its not my type of mod but i would defend to the end the right for anybody to post this type of mod, god forbid we should have some fun with this game.
If this is what floats your boat, or sinks it, go for it.
If you follow SubV's logic, then you should not be playing this game unless it is at the hardest settings.

I disagree a modification is simply that, whether that modification is to your taste depends on the induvidual and how they like to approach/play the game ("game" being the operative word here )

So take your venom and direct it to the Devs as I suggested in a previous post instead of directing it toward a modder who spent time and effort
for the benefit of others.
It may be noted at the time of this post that this mod has been downloaded 107 times!
That tells me there are indeed members of this community who want to use Lorka's mod......................... I rest my case.

You are entitled to your opinion and that should never change or be discouraged. (i don't think that is disputed).
The problem here is that there are ways of saying things, if you said to a girl, "when i look in to your eyes, time stands still for me" she would think its great, try saying "you have a face that could stop a clock".
This mod will more than likely appeal to the younger users, and as they are our future it should be encouraged not frowned upon.
Any gaming community needs modders, even if the mods are not to our taste they should be encouraged.

At SUBSIM we treat all members with respect, even those we do not like or may not agree with. We are all adults having adult discussions about things so let us not act like immature children please. Apparently you didn't read the rules, or the post I referenced you to. And mods or modifications are exactly that, they can add to or take away from a game, for example, in an fps, an aimbot is a MODIFICATION of the game structure, it definitely doesn't add to the game, that is why they are banned. Your are entitled to your opinion, as long as it is respectful and mature.

Here's a pic of a Tigger I built. Fully Radio Controlled. It is realistic. It is modeled after an actual German tank. It only had that paint scheme for one week durring its entire service. Very detailed and very specific build, and it turned out good.
At the same time I built mine another guy built his. His was purple with red flames. I was speachless. But in the end BOTH tanks performed the same, BOTH gave just as much enjoyment to both of us and we still get along.
To sum it up....to each his own.

Seriously, man. I'm always amazed at how some people react to your mods. To read some reactions you'd think that you must have somehow attacked them personally. I can't understand that attitude...who even sincerely thinks they have the right to up and declare any mod worthless? And then to claim a right to an opinion... come on. It wasn't the opinion that was unwelcome, it was sharing it needlessly and in a mean spirit.

LOL I agree. I am myself a realism addict, but what's the problem with people having fun like they want with the game they paid for? :DL
And I must say, for a change sometimes it becomes amazingly fun to use one of those Über-Mods and laugh your a**s off watching f.e. destroyers blowing sky high or subs jumping out of the sea a few hundred metres into the beach at 100 knots and ramming land units :haha: Or blowing tanks below a carrier and surfacing with it on the deck. Can you imagine the Admiral's face when he looks out of the window and sees his carrier lifted up in the air by a submarine? :har:
The best was in SH4 with silent fire. I rammed a destroyer and became the first US sub in Orbit.....even saw stars. Never did get back down....lol

My sub once leaped over a Japanese battleship before diving back into the water. Personally these types of mods are both helpful and entertaining to use. I probably would've never learned the game if I wasn't able to take my sub into battle without being destroyed. Now that I know what to do I can go without cheating.

Yeah I know. That was just the most memorable moment I had using his mod for SH4. I don't own SH5 yet until they fix the game and remove DRM.

Did you start a new career? realism settings may effect this also even though I set dud and premature chances to 0. the torpedomans bonuses are a bit buggy, too, atm, thanks for the input :) I'll look into it if/when i get a chance to fire up the game ( I hate work, its going to be another 72 hr week........)

Since starting a new career, things have generally improved. However, I still get predet in shallow waters (like in ports) but I'm guessing this isn't a mod issue.
However, now I'm getting issues where about half of my torpedoes exit the tube and immediately start sinking, doing about 5 knots.

Are you launching them at flank speed?, that could cause some of them to "hit" your sub, while launching.

You'll need to add and edit the "Data\Zones.cfg" and the "Data\UPCDataGE\Equipment.cfg" files.

quand je revient en vu normal mon soumarin est tout gris et la mer est noir.

c'est dommage,j'aime bien ton mod ;) mais je suis obligé de l'enlever a cause de ses bugs,a moins que tu résoud les problemes ;)

I tried again the mod this morning, and yes I have bugs displays I put on speed on the map ects x32 x1024 ....
when I returned to my normal Submarine seen is gray and the sea is black.
as I said in my post further, Defois I have no deck gun, he disappeared
It is a pity, I like your mod but I am obliged to remove because of its bugs, unless you solve the problems

Kidding aside, Tidave, I've never had any graphics problems, What other mods did you have enabled? I'm working on getting rid of the wobbily turns at high speed/time compression. And does your deck gun physically disapear, or are you just unable to use it?

I've had these graphic problems as well...not all the time. The gun disappears which is most annoying when I order the crew to fire and there is just a hole in the deck...lol. I think maybe most of the problems I had are because I enabled the mod during a campaign and not before. Just didn't want to go back and re-live all those exciting days at sea cruisin around. It seems to have reached a head with me on the tanker alley mission. Up to that point I had some occasional freezes, but now it crashes everytime I meet a ship. I disabled silent fire and it didn't crash......but I miss it :cry: Got a new computer today so Im going to start form scratch...if I can figure out windows 7 :hmmm:

These mods can't be used during a campaign. Much like it was with Silent Fire for SH4. You need to be at port in the office before applying the mod or screwy things happen.

Hmmph I thought I wrote that in the release post, oops, ahh the magic of post editing... however, It does say that you may need to start a new campaign in teh readme......I think....ahhh **** it doesnt either, heh.
Well I have to start from scratch anyway. Despite copying all of the game and save files over from wthe Win xp computer, all of my saved game files are gone in windows 7..back to the begining...oh well. Windows 7 is not going to have any of the problems that windows vista had. I'm having a great (sarcasm) time trying to get all my games back on the Win 7 computer. In a couple of weeks I'll be ready to play SH5 again:damn:

I used goblin editor for the ammo amounts for the guns, those files are in /data /objects/guns. I made a quick and dirty goblin editor guide, its a sticky in this forum, and to those of you having graphics problems, I haven't seen this myself, either the sky and water thing or the guns thing, I'm going to do a reinstall over the weekend, and reload the mod and see whats what. Is there a certain time of day, or length of time into the game that the graphics glitch occurs? screenshots would be helpful as well, Thanks, Chuck.

Do you have other mods in use? Does this problem occur with no mods applied? If not then post a screenshot with and without the graphic problem. I'm aware that certain versions of Silent Fire for SH4 will take a hit on system performance and cause issues on lower-end PC's as a result.

I am only prepping to work on my mod. As soon as an update is available I will try help you out. It was done with SF for SH4 though I am not exaclty sure what he changed to make it that way. I just know which files they are in. Hopefully they didn't do something to nullify that tweak.

Found it. I was an idiot and searched for sub instead of uboat in the zones.cfg..... looked at silent fire elite files and viola, there they were, works good, updating file nowes.

I am glad you found them. It took me a long time to familiarze myself with all the changes. I had to carefully compare them with untouched files. Very time consuming. The SFE readme does not have every single feature listed in detail. The ones which aren't listed are minor tweaks to support the features which are listed. So when he says the subs are virtually invincible, that includes everything. It just seemed pointless for him to list every part or aspect in detail. Good luck with the updates.

I remember a zoom issue with SFE for SH4. I think it was with the guns. If the magnification was too high the game would crash. Not sure if that exists with SH5 but I'll know soon enough.

This mod always freezes my game if I save in the middle of a patrol in the campaign. It would appear you have to ALWAYS be in port when using this mod. You can not save a game in the middle of a patrol and expect it to work. The game will crash or freeze. Very annoying.
For this mod to work properly, you have to start a new campaign and be sure to only save the game when you're in the sub pen and not in your boat. You CAN NOT save while you're in the middle of a patrol. The save will be corrupted and worthless. So if you get a million tons of shipping and then the game crashes in the middle of the patrol for some unexpected reason, you've lost all that tonnage because you can't load up a saved game from a patrol.
It has something to do with all the extra torpedoes that are loaded as I've pretty much dissected this mod with a hex editor to find the problem. Damn shame too. WHY OH WHY HASN'T UBI EVER GIVEN US THE OPTION FOR UNLIMITED TORPEDOES?!?! They have given us unlimited deck gun ammo but not unlimited torpedoes! I MEAN WTF UBI?!?!

So if you get a million tons of shipping and then the game crashes in the middle of the patrol for some unexpected reason, you've lost all that tonnage because you can't load up a saved game from a patrol.
It has something to do with all the extra torpedoes that are loaded as I've pretty much dissected this mod with a hex editor to find the problem. Damn shame too. WHY OH WHY HASN'T UBI EVER GIVEN US THE OPTION FOR UNLIMITED TORPEDOES?!?! They have given us unlimited deck gun ammo but not unlimited torpedoes! I MEAN WTF UBI?!?!

Anybody use Silent Fire and Patch version 1.2?
After loading a game which I saved OUT OF A PORT, it crashes. Is there a soultion for this prob? (Game Version 1.2)

But the 4 subs in this mod have a .sim & .zon file, correct?
That is all except this 1 NSS_Uboat7b it only has a .sim file. Should that not have a .zon file too?
Only reason I am asking is, I love the mod and think its a great piece of work.
But when I changed subs in campaign the NSS_Uboat7b got blown clean out of the water. the 1st sub the NSS_Uboat7a worked fine. Again if I'm wrong I apologise. Thanks for you're time on this mod :up::up::salute:

actually, you are correct. I need to change this, and will do as soon as I get internet up, however, i believe that there is an invincible uboat mod that has the zon files in it, ill check. Yep, should be ok if you take the .zon files from this mod and put them in mine until i get internet back at home.
