View Full Version : [REQ] Wrecks stay on ocean bottom and not sink through it

I have seen that ships that I sink, go through the ocean bottom and disappear. Also it seems that when they go past a certain depth they disappear even before hitting the ocean bottom.

Again no mention of this to be fixed in patch can this be modded to for correct behaviour?

Thanks!

thats because the game would suffer so they "need to" dissappear so the game isnt slowed down by constantly keeping these things along with any associated animations like bubbles and noises from drasticly slowing the game down to the point of CTD issues.

now they cant be done away with but it should be moddable to reset the "time" that they hang around.

personally i wish they would never time out and only vanish after you left the area or got out of sensor range.

as for sinking through the floor i think thats hard coded so they dont just go poof and vanish, im not sure why they thought melting into quicksand was any better thou?

Most time I sink ships, they hardly stay on the bottom for one minute. Most ships instantly sink through the bottom.

When sinking ships in shallow waters, it is a must that they stay on the bottom. It looks awkward when a battle ship sinks bow first until it stays upright and vanishes in 20 meter deep water.

Arrrr, they go much more quickly if hitting bow or stern first. I it lays flat on the bottom it'll take a bit longer for that sand to suck it in.:O:

But yeah if she goes down stern or bow first, it's only a minute or so.
Stern first, then hung like that for a minute.

Then woops, who knew there's be quicksand here?:hmmm:

Strange, I have not seen this in my game. The ships go down, hit the bottom as expected, and stay there for some time.

Is this related to graphical options perhaps?

It's part of the cleanup process that removes dead ships. While I've seen it happen, the amount of time they stay on/near the bottom has always been enough time for my morbid gloating. :)

Usually they sink and hit the bottom, but sometimes they sink just as fast, yet go straight through it.

That is weird, I am over 1.5 million tons sunk in SH5 and have never seen them sink through the sea floor right away. Eventually they do, but never instantly. I agree with Webster, I would like them to only vanish after you go outside of sensor range.

Nothing wrong with them vanishing that soon, it just clears up ram and thats a good thing. Besides whaddya wanna do, conduct a salvage operation?:O:

no but a valid tactic is using the sinking or sunk ship as a shield or protection from DD runs and its presence creates added hazards for the sake of more realism so yes it is very much a good thing if they hang around.

IMO it would take less computer resources then animated quicksand
