Hey,

I made this huge radio pack for SH4, and since I understand that radio mods made for SH4 will work for SH5 as well, you might wanna have a look on it.

Full description of the mod, you can find here:
http://shmf.larsbundgaard.dk/index.php?topic=28.0

Download it through this link:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=4700

Now, a French user has warned me of a CTD, and I'm most certain that it was because I had added \data\sound\music\music.cfg which removes the ambiance music from SH4, but this cfg file was written for SH4 - not for SH5, so before you enable it, then please remove that file first. Else I hope some of you will try it out and report back.
Please notice that since this radio mod contains music, I have a demand of offering it to members of SHMF only, so in case you're not yet member, you'll have to sign up first. It only takes a minute.

Intercontinental Radio Pack
3 German stations: Berlin, Hamburg & Vianna
1 French station: Paris (not the same as Ziem's version though some of it may be the same content)
1 Japanese station: Tokyo
4 American stations: Washington (additions to the one existing. This station may also be the source of the CTD, if all the files from SH4 ain't present in SH5 anymore. I would need feedback on that, if I would have to edit the text file.), Honolulu, Hollywood and NBC-CBS (this one is a major rework of the original plus greatly enlarged)
1 British station: BBC

So basically, I'm asking now for some voluntary beta-testers.
FEED BACK WANTED, so I eventually can edit the text files for it.
You may write feedback here or in SHMF.

Thanks

Almost 5.5GB in size thats one large radio pack. :o

I'd love to download now, but my speed is to slow... Maybe I'll set it to download overnight.
Will leave feedback when I get it and try it out.

Thanks. :up:

I'd love to try this. I don't have access to the radio with my version of SH5 though. Perhaps after Patch 1.2?

There are mods out there that add that functionality back already. Try one of those.

If you just delete the folders, then yes.
If you open the radio.ini file too and delete the entries for:

[CHANNEL]
Name=Paris
Folder=Paris
Freq=28
Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.1946: 47.45,5.12:100000
MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01

and

[CHANNEL]
Name=Radio Tokyo
Folder=Tokyo
Freq=64
Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:35.80,139.80:100000
MusicVolumeOnNews=0.01

then you should be okay. :03:

Is it possible to download your excellent Mod without registering with yet another website?

Come on, you haven't still got me on your ignore list have you?! ;)

Hullo folks!

If you want this wonderful mod to work in Silent Hunter 5, simply delete the music folder and its music.cfg file - found at ...data\sound\music in the mod directory. Otherwise you get CTD's upon loading the sub-pen.

Would be thrilling to use this mod, but:
1. There's no info in the thread about solving the CTD issue from OP.
2. I don't want to register on another forum just to download it. :)

Sorry, folks. I don't log in to subsim that much anymore, except for the off topic area from time to time. Only forum I visit almost daily is SHMF.

Carotio?....

Come on, you haven't still got me on your ignore list have you?! ;)

I don't even remember if I had you there....

Hi Carotio,

Is it possible to download your excellent Mod without registering with yet another website?

No. I have it in SHMF and there only, and for members only.
Checking the membership list at SHMF tells me, you're signed up, unless someone else is using that alias...

Would be thrilling to use this mod, but:
1. There's no info in the thread about solving the CTD issue from OP.
2. I don't want to register on another forum just to download it. :)

1) Actually, there is. It's written that you can remove the music.cfg file. In SHMF, there is a description for how to replace the text inside the file.
2) Your loss, not mine.

For everyone else: if you want quicker feedback to questions about any of my mods, then ask in SHMF. It was pure coincidence, I went back and saw some unread comments.... :03:

I actually have an account with SHMF from way back when, but when I try clicking on the link it tells me that I don't have access to that post..I tried just making a brand new account too and got the same message. On my new user account over there the only posts by Carotio I can see are a few in the anti-spam topic (even though he's got over a thousand listed next to his name)...

Is there something wrong with SHMF access?

EDIT: Ahh, I see Carotio decided to only allow access to people who post or contribute..Can't blame him..

My question is, how do I turn on and off my radio and change stations, is there a radio download for this game so I can access it?

I registered with the forum then logged in and tried to download and got the message 'error you are not authorised to go to this page' or something to that effect...rather annoying considering the time taken to register etc

Please provide an alternative download link

It seems like one of the main problems was SPAM, so you have to post in the anti-spam forum to gain access first.

The author of this mod has made wonderful mods taking a lot of work for SH over the years, i feel he has every right to decide how to share his content. And i would rather have the mod AND the music ...deleting the music file seems to defeat the purpose. He says there is info on the DL site for how to make the adjustments. Thank you very much C.

OK, I have learned from the mod maker best way to install this is JGSME, and it will also adjust the theme music so it is not playing all the time. Just be sure to use the edited CFG for the music cfg to prevent CDTs. great project, a excellent addition to the game!

First I did like "Nervouspete" wrote earlier:

"If you want this wonderful mod to work in Silent Hunter 5, simply delete the music folder and its music.cfg file - found at ...data\sound\music in the mod directory. Otherwise you get CTD's upon loading the sub-pen."

Then I used jsgme to activate it. Some of the songs I also like to have on my gramophone, so the wanted melodies can easilybe copied, and put into the gramophone folder, like data/sound/gramophone.

Actually I didn't delete the music folder, removed and stored it outside the game folder (where ever u prefer).

ah thanks ..

i went in to try it out but could not get the radio to tune to any of the staions...just got static.....all the options i had were upper or lower stations, and Washington was coming in but that was just the default file.

is there a trick to getting the radio to work once the mod is installed? I am still working to figure it out and did not want to bother Lars about it until i had tried.

To prevent Spam bots, after registering you have only access to the Spam board. There you have to create an introductory posting (simply saying hello to the others). Once an admin recognizes your posting, he'll grant you access to the rest of the forum.

I agree, it was a great pack. Some of the radio stations are on subsim downloads, but not all, and I forget which ones. CBS is here, BBC etc, but there were several others that were exclusive to this pack IIRC.

Yep. I have that radio pack on my HD, but uploading in anywhere else would be a real PITA: it is composed by 57 rar files, for a total of more than 5 GB of music :dead: ...not to mention the fact the we should ask Carotio for permission to re-distribute his pack

On a side note, for a test I have logged in Carotio's website with my old username/password and tried redownloading the mod. Login works, but when I click on the download link, it says:

"The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you."

So either this download has been restricted to contributors / active members, or that radio pack isn't available any longer... :-?

This is the full list or radio stations featured:

BBC
Berlin
CBS-NBC
Hamburg
Hollywood
Paris
Honolulu
Tokyo
Washington
Wien

So re-uploading the mod shouldn't be an issue. Do you know any file hosting service which gives more than 5.37 GB of free space, allowing an uploaded file size of up to 95.3 MB, not limiting daily downloads, and not removing the files after an inactivity of a few weeks? :hmmm:

Torrent is usefull for smaller scale as well .. we would be sharing amongst eachother .. gap would not have to spend hours to upload, and we would in no time be able to get parts from eachother as well, so our dl speed would increase too ... provided we all share back at reasonable speed ;)

But if you dont mind having 7z fest followed by an upload fest, then I will be forever gratefull too :salute:

Went to Silenthuntermods , made an account , posted a short piece to "prove i wasnt a spam bot " , and waited .. i was accepted .***..

I think if you make a donation the acceptance procedure is expedited ..
The Mod comes in 57 parts .My computer and browser lets me dl 5 at a time ..
I did not time it but i think the whole dl process took around an hour , with me slowing it down a bit by not babysitting it constantly and restarting the next DL ..
Dont forget to rewrite the music config file with the one on the website .Simple find delete copy paste procedure takes far less time than it takes JSGME to enable this MOnster mod .. 5.5 Gb ..
It will CTD reliably without it .

Other than that .. its cake .. Its a mod which adds much to the game ..
Never used to understand why they would have a radio or gramaphone with one song on it .. and not even a good one at that .. But Ubi has apparently always had the Modders in mind .. its a good thing ..I digress ..

Gives you an idea the challenges-commitment of maintaining a site. Also an appreciation of what Neal does here at SUBSIM.

I have seen more than a few alternative sites go by the wayside during my time here at SUBSIM.

G'day All...

I jumped through the registering hoops and was accepted just a few weeks ago.

I was fortunate enough to download the Intercontinental Radio Pack because I think Carotio is closing down his site this month (February).

Maybe with Carotio's and Subsims permission, one of us members that have the mod may be able to upload it to Subsim so that it isn't lost to the community.

The problem is, that even compressed, the download is huge and consists of 57 separate packs of 100 Mb each!

It's a shame when sites such as Silenthuntermods.com have to close because of the lost information and rescources.

But it is understandable because of the cost and amount of work required to keep them up and running especially if it is a one man show.

So...all is not lost yet. We need to start moving towards making this great mod available to all.

Regards....Kev*

Sailor Steve - lots of original German music.
Thanks to kevinsue for bringing this thread up again. I just wanted to make a small correction. I posted the 'German Hits' collection to SubSim, but it isn't my work. I have a note in the download page stating that I don't remember who created it originally, and asking for him to come forward so I can give proper credit.

All that aside, has anyone contacted Plissken04 about hosting it at his site?

Not sure who Plissken04 is but I had planned to make it available for download from the Subsim Downloads section in the Sound FX category.
The actual download will be linked to a Silent Hunter 5 folder containing the individual packages in my MediaFire account. It's a huge mod comprising of 57 packs of 95Mb each.
I intend to call it Carotio's Intercontinental Radio Pack *RELOADED*. It will probably take another day before it's uploaded with a bit of luck.

I hope this plan is ok with you guys at Subsim. :06:

Just want to thank you again for the hassle and taking the time to work on this mod and make it available again .

Hi there,

I have not been active in subsim for years, but was called back by a private message. Then by chance, I came by my old thread about my radio mod. I see some people still want it, but that it's hard to get.
And that ain't hard to understand, since it was huge in size. I had to let it go, when I gave up the hosting site of SHMF. I still have it on my own harddrive of course.

So did any of you find a solution to host it anywhere?
Does anyone still want it at all?

To explain my long-time absence: well, I chose to get myself another hobby than modding and playing the SH games. So i'm not at all up to date with the current must-have mods for any of the games.

Well, greetings to all of you! And happy hunting! :yeah:

Is there a way to get it to Sailor Steve to have it hosted here on SubSim?

I do too! I wouldn't mind having it in TWoS, or just to install myself.

I was lucky enough to get a copy of the Carotio's Intercontinental Radio Pack and make it available for download from the Subsim Downloads section in the Sound FX category.
The actual download is linked to a Silent Hunter 5 folder containing the individual packages in my MediaFire account. It's a huge mod comprising of 57 packs of 95Mb each.
It is called Carotio's Intercontinental Radio Pack *RELOADED*. After discussion with Neal and due to the size of this download and potential bandwidth usage of the Subsim server, it was decided to host it on my own account and link it to Subsim. This was back in mid 2015 and the link is still active.

I didn't know about this, but it's okay. I will update the initial post with this download link, and everybody will be happy then, I hope. :up:

Here is another question that I don't think anybody has answered yet.

In SH3 and 4, some of the folders have a "event" that occurs on a set date "in war".

Silent Hunter 5 does not allow that.

Has anybody found an answer or "cure" to this?

You're wrong. SH5 support radio news/event pretty much the same like sh3 and 4...

I've been playing TWoS v2.2 for about a year or a little more, and not once has anything from the "Events" folder, played over the radio.

Sorry

In TWoS authentic radio news in German and sometimes in English language can be heard all the time. Check your events folder and events.ini file ...

If I'm not mistaken, the "Events" folder in SH5 is the same ones that are in SH4.

I have them in KMGB, Washington, and Fox.

I'll check again, just in case I'm wrong.

TWoS contains modified Grossdeutscher Rundfunk radio mod(active from the start) and stock Washington radio (active from 1942) ...Every radio station have it's own events folder.

Your right, but when I started the game (TwoS) I believe it only had one folder, "Washington".

But like I said, I'll check again.

I went back and looked, and found a bunch of files: News_1941_01.ogg files, it says they were configure settings.

The Grossdeutscher Rundfunk radio folder didn't have any.

I went through a deleted all but the news files.

Will try again.
