I was about to start a career with a type IIa but have never liked the fact that the IIa uses the same tower interior as the type7s.
If i can get my hands on some reference pics of the interior of a typeII tower i would try to remodel it to be closer to the real thing, but reference seems to be scarce/non existant for the type2 boats.
Anyone know of any good pics??

That would be cool.
And no, I don't. Probably neither did the devs, or they would have done the correct model.

The best ive found so far is a photo (from a useless angle) from the interior of the vesikko tower, the precursor to the German type 2 boats.
From what i can see it should be smaller (obviously) and have the old style attack scope, no fancy carousel for the typeII commanders!
I`ll keep trawling google images and see what i can find:up:
This will be a tuff one.
I too have only pics of the Vesikko. And the Tower pics is always from beneath the opening.
There used to be a Netherlander-Site that had some user-made vids of the interior. An the tower was seen briefly!
On the other hand, our 'Nachbarn" over at the SH4 boards have the famous Type II Machine Room Thread. (by Tomi_99)
There are lots detail pics and many of them taken by request. And they provided Tomi with some not seen before pics.
Maybe if you ask the folks on that board they help you out .

flakmonkey,
have you used this site:
http://www.u-historia.com/
I place it into Google translate and it works great. I am working on a 1 72 scale interior model ans this site has been useful.
Let me dig through some of my .pdf files and see if I have anything.
This looks promising, although I dont have it yet so can say whether it covers the conning tower:

Well i might aswell post a few pics, im not sure my IIa tuneup will ever see release as another subsimmer is working on pretty much the exact same thing, and his version is sounding far more promising than my modest attempt, plus i got a little lazy and used a few sh5 meshes to spruce up the ol` IIa :nope:
Still no interior for the tower, yet.

Looks really good! You sure have an eye for good details!
It stirred my love for the type2 again!
And i had no idea someone else was working at the same thing too.
And who is the other simmer?
On a personal note, We surely wouldn't mind a sub rework from you!

He`s not posted any pics yet but its certainly sounding like a more complete and detailed remodelling of the typeII.
Whatever you decide..it already looks grand!
Just curious, did you plan to use the Type2 Torpedo room too? It would be the openhatch for the twos!

Not yet Flakmonkey i am working around the clock to deliver the good for the Easter weekend, the longest part was not modeling i finish the modeling the second day after my original post. The longest step is the uvw remapping But after i'm done with it, the texture will be different on each side no more repetition that was setup originally and any modders will appreciate the new UV layout for it ease of use.
I delete many parts and instruments like the UZO because from U-1 up to U-9 there is no UZO but if the player wich to used it, it is still available via shortcut.
By the way i search in the files to locate the pivot point for the crew on bridge any pointer on this? I hope it is not hardcoded i just want to lower the 2 crew members on the steel platform.
Take care gentlemens i am going to bed
Regards. Hans

I have never seen except one picture of the conning tower interior of a Type II, and that one showed almost nothing, but from plans I can tell some details worth modifying:
- The CT is VERY small. A part of the rear space of it is separated and serves for the exhaust intake to go through. There is roughly only 2/3 rds available inside of what you see outside.
- The attack periscope is forward, and not rear of the observation one. It is actually very close to the front of the conning tower, and it must have been quite difficult for the commander to squeeze himself between the wall and the periscope to look at a relative bearing of 150-210. Not a big problem, though, since the Type II had no rear torpedo tubes.
- The attack periscope is a normal one, not the model with seat and pedals.
-The rear part of the CT is occupied by the housing through which the observation periscope (Whose lower part is in the control room) goes up and down. The housing is much thinner than the one for the seat and pedals standing periscope.
- The ladder to the bridge is placed before the observation periscope well, perpendicular to the Uboat longitudinal axis.
-On the portboard wall of the CT is the Gyrocompass
So you could already do a reasonable job by replacing the current standing attack periscope housing with a smaller tube, adding the up and down going attack one, and reducing the conning tower dimensions overall.
I have a bigger scan of this Type II plan (http://media.photobucket.com/image/planstypeII.jpg/Hengist199/U-Boat/plansTypeII.jpg), if you need it for getting the proportions PM me and I'll upload it for you.
EDIT: I'll try to make a scheme for you of the parts I can identify, stay tuned here.
