With so much absolutely sterling work done by the modders in just two weeks; do you guys think that a GWX style large update will become available over time??
Obviously this would be a long way down the line but is there the potential within SHV??

Potential : Yes

Privateer's team's ability to undertake it again: Unknown

Perhaps a group fund can be motivating, but that has been tried before and folks mouths write a lot of checks that their ass couldn't cash.

I am sure if they plan on anything, or members of the old team plan anything they are sure to let some folks know. Even they may need some assistance!

Thanks for that. Think Ubi would have been better off paying them to do it in the first place!!!

Hi!

I would personally wait until Ubisoft issues its last SH5 patch update before embarking on a megamod: the main challenge is in reconciling all of the different mods that affect the same files, and that's pretty tough if Ubisoft is still changing the main baseline.

+1 to waiting on patch

Also, guys - the GWX team are not gods. They're people too. Let them have their well-deserved rest and don't pile expectations on them. They've done a great job - 3 versions over, at that - but that doesn't mean they're superhuman saviours of everything. Let's let things play out naturally - there is already a lot of new talent here who deserve a shot at this one without having to "live up" to the "gods".

Till the patches are finished some things just arent worth touching as probably be overwritten
Lots a great mods available already which make the game playable and more

You wont be seeing GWX in SH5

Agreed - there's nothing "magical" about the any of the supermods out there. They are absolutely worthy of our adoration and respect, but the main ingredients are an ability to work like a mule, attention to detail and the strength to perservere in the face of unrelenting criticism and innumerable requests for changes.

There are quite a few giants in the SH4 community who I feel are more than capable of putting out a GWX for SH5. As an example, lurker_hlb3 has put out Operation Monsun to recreate the entire 1939-1945 U-boat war for SH4. He's incorporated a lot of of othe rmods to provide missing objects, graphical tweaks, but the actual campaign is all his, flotillas, convoys, bases, hunter-killer groups and all. An astounding feat. And don't get me started on his Run Silent, Run Deep mod for the PTO.

Don't yell that out too loud... It could turn into the final nail in the coffin... I was hoping that this would be turned into a true SHIII+GWX successor by the time it is DRM-free!

^This.

Its nice that people have such a high regard for GWX, but but there is bound to be other super mods by other modders for SH5 - who's to say they cant be even better?
Im just saying look to the future - not the past for SHV.

At least one large mod has been announced. Will there be more? Of course! There are quite a few teams of modders who have worked together in the past and will probably work together in the future, or even now. AOTD have also posted saying they are working on things, so that can only be good news. There must have been others too, but I haven't been paying a lot of attention.

It may be all that and even more. You never know. The point is that different modders from different former backgrounds can make something just as good or better, but don't expect to see the same brand names on it.:sunny:

Nearly all the GWX Guys are still around.
And everyone of them will tell you the same thing.

We ain't doing no more Big Mods!

Now the small thing or five may be another story
in and of itself.
:hmmm:

And Privateer's Team only has 3 members.
Me, Myself, and I.
And the three of us can't get along!
:haha:

The new generation of moders ...
new generation has less respect to the history and start bore too quickly in general, but who know maybe there is a bunch of descent ppl who take the place of Duci,GWX,NYGM, and others talented creative folks who don`t mind moding Sh5.

LukeFF announced work on Real U-Boat (RUB). Since he ran the Real Fleet Boat supermod in SH4, I think it'll be a good work. Maybe not as epic as GWX, but that is a tall order.

RUB was in SHIII as well, it was a very good mod. I expect it will be a good mod for SHV too but I don't expect to see it any time soon. A large mod while we are still expecting/hoping for patches is a bad idea.

Don't expect supermods anytime soon. First of all, it's best to wait for all patches, and then, in general supermods take a year or more to develop even into beta stage...

The first mods you usually see are UI, texture and audio mods, they simply are easiest to change. The more advanced stuff, gameplay, damage model, more units, etc. all take way more time...
