INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Install as any other mod using JSGME, and simply run the game.

NOTE: Likely NOT compatible with other UI mods …!

VERSION HISTORY

v1.2 - 19-05-2010

Made compatible with SH5 patch 1.2.
The tooltip now displays the date/time in natural format (including day of week), more specifically in the format your computer uses for full date/time display.
v1.1 - 21-03-2010
Moved the ‘Warnings group’ a bit to the left. The drag handle and icons no longer cover the clock.

INTEGRATION WITH OTHER UI MODS

Only three files are changed with this mod, but they are likely also changed by other UI mods. To merge this mod with others do the following:

From Page Default Hud.ini copy the group Digital Clock (item id 0xA3A0000) and it’s children.
In Page layout.ini, the position of item id 0x3F0C0000 has changed.
From Page Default Hud.py do a search for ‘skwas’, and find the bits of new code.

Looks far too modern for my taste, but still sorely needed.
Could you stop that hugely annoying stopwatch from popping up like a porn ad whenever I got to TC 1500, too? I hated that in SH4, and I hate it equally in SH5:03:.
Three reasons Ubisoft's DRM is good (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5lQ-9reiLU)Excellent. Thank you, I needed a laugh. Never thought it'd be possible to squeeze that many cliches into one little cip.

The thread title clearly states 'digital' so yea, it's modern... It fits the UI theme perfectly fine imo. I will also release an analog clock in a few days so perhaps that fits you better (downside is it takes up way more space).

As far as your TC question, I'm basically not touching existing stuff, nor will I be fixing bugs at this point of time (I rather wait for patches). I will only create new stuff that's easily pluggable after patches (or can be reused by other modders). And I hope others can learn from these small minimods (how they are done).

That's my only interest ;)

The thread title clearly states 'digital' so yea, it's modern... It's not the fact that it's digital, it's more the black-and-yellow colour scheme. Then again, it fits the rest of the UI, so an "older" one wouldn't fit in. So I can't complain.

skwasjer
03-19-10, 10:30 PM
ok

All the black/grey stuff is just reused from existing UI. I don't know why I chose yellow for the text, but full white was way to much in your face I guess. Anyway, anyone can change it with menu editor :yeah:

Safe-Keeper
03-19-10, 10:34 PM
Yeah, I was thinking more like a kind of wooden background and black letters or something. There's the glow, too, that makes it look really modern.

Anyway, anyone can change it with menu editor :yeah:There'll probably be a full-blown mod out someday that changes the UI to a WWII-style top to bottom. Until then, it's okay :) .

I was really missing that digital clock from SHIV. It's one of those little things you don't realize you'll miss until they're gone.

Thank you skwas for bringing it back :salute:

Nice little mod thanks!

Sorry, I'm being rather thick here, but can you elaborate a bit on how to merge this mod so it doesn't interfere with others?

I have the "Less Annoying TAI map" and the "Player Guidance Icons Removed" mods already installed.
I backed these out through JGSME and then tried re-enabling with your digi-clock mod first up but no joy, as you've already said.

Any pointers would be welcome, I would really like to have the clock on screen all the time. I'm surprised it was missed off in development originally.

Thanks again.

Now, when i need to watch time, i'm actually don't experiencing any troubles to hit the shortcut key for my chronometer.

Interesting and (not unwelcome) clash with another mod.

I also have the less annoying TAI mod, and when i enabled your mod, it made the nav tools dissapear from the hud view (except for when in the big nav map).

This is great because i never used the map tools on the TAI in normal view, only in the big nav map view, and frankly found them annoying sticking up the left side of the view.

Cheers :-)

google winmerge.

open both files up in it side by side and it will highlight the things that are different. use common sense and make a merged copy of the files.

it's really that easy (and quick too).

Righto!

I'll have a bash as you say. I've not had any trouble with mods so far, and not really had any clashes either, luckily. I have currently 33 of them activated in JGME...

I'm new to SH and the mods and not too familiar with altering files, etc. :)

Mostly it's a case of patching a game and away you go...

I seem to have SH5 working as I would like now, and it is the little, subtle things like this mod that can make the game I think, (as well as the more prominent things like the major interface changes obviously).

Thanks for replies.

Once submerged, the "We are under water" icon covers the left part of the clock. Anyone else getting that? Anyone know how to adjust that? I do use TheDarkWraith's Old Style Dials if that has any bearing.

Thanks.

Edit: Same with the propaganda or meal icons, etc.

Hi, you can easily displace the submerged-icon. Just left-click on (or near to) it and put it where you like!

Many thanks for the mod. The digital 24 hour clock is great, if not historically correct, because you can tell at a glance whether it's AM or PM while in high TC.

The home port anchor icon does cover it though when it's visible. I'm pretty sure I can live with that... but just thought I'd mention it.

As I wrote before: you can move all the message-icons (homeport, shallow waters and so on) where you want to by left-clicking near them (drag and draw...).

Yeah it's a pretty awesome program. Been using it for a very long time for various things. It has alot of advanced features.

Handy basic editing:
Use ALT + Up/Down to navigate to each difference.
Use ALt + Left/Right to merge the current difference left or right.

Hover your mouse over the toolbar items to see all the shortcuts.

I have updated first post with v1.1, which corrects the placement of the drag handle and warning icons.

Please note that this change requires an additional file (Page layout.ini). In this file, only one line has changed.

Thanks skwasjer,

It's good you pointed out that only one line changed in layout.ini, which made it easy to find. I took that line and added it to TheDarkWraith's Old Style Dials with TDC combo that I use, and it worked nicely (I used the already merged files from v1.0).

It's a great little alternative to popping up the big chronometer. I agree with jdkbph that despite the fact that it isn't a "period piece", it is extremely helpful.

It doesn't really matter to me if it's an authentic looking theme, because lets me honest, a submarine captain didn't have a hud in the first place. The whole point of this excercise to me was making the clock itself ;)

Enjoy

You may be missing the UpdateDigitalClock() line in the .py file. Best use WinMerge for this task though.

I know I already commented on your mod but I like it so much I want to thank you again :-)

The placement is perfect with 1.1 and it fits in so well it looks like it was part of the original interface. A simple mod that fills a genuine need and was perfectly executed. It should be included in every UI mod from now till the end of time.

I don't know, if you get a file collision error in JSGME, then it is not advisable to install it (or you lose functionality of other mods). You can try, if JSGME gives no warning, then you're good to go.

Unfortunately you lose the new compass and return to course and depth under keel buttons that were added back in 1.2.......and while I haven't had time to chase it up it seems that the change I made to give me depth under keel mapped to a key now don't work. Perhaps they updated the key maps overwriting my changes or it's done a different way now..anyway I love the digital clock and really miss it. So, pretty please with sugar on top, update your mod to work with the 1.2 UI ;)

Cheers,

I've updated the first post with a patch 1.2 compatible version of this mod. The only other improvements are some code tidyness, and a better date/time presentation in the tooltip. It goes without saying, that this mod should not be used in combination with other UI mods, unless you edit/combine the files, or wait for updates by their respective creators.

Enjoy!
