Hi,

does anyone have some technical knowledge about the preheating of the G7e TII torpedoes? From what I gathered the speed/range of the torpedo without preheating was 28kn/3000m and with preheating 30kn/5000m (in GWX it seems to be a mixture: 28kn/5250m).

How did the preheating work? Was there a special device in the torp for it or was it done via some external device? How long took it? Could it be done from the beginning of the war or did it start only later? I am asking because I am thinking about making the speed/range date-dependent via SH3 Commander (early war 28/3000, later 30/5000). Any information would be great!

Standart speed of this torpeedo was 30kt/5000m. Węzły = Knots:

Hi evan82,

thanks for the data. As I understand it the 30kn/5000m were for preheated torps. The question is from when the torps were preheated? From the beginning of the war? And how did it work? I could not find any clear answer on these questions in the web. I hope someone has some good, reliable books about this :06:

No one any ideas  ?

It would be great to know at least how long the pre-heating took. I know there are some real experts here :know:

Please help if you have some knowledge/good book.

Cheers, LGN1

Hi, try looking over at www.uboataces.com (http://www.uboataces.com) They have some info there. It seems they had internal heaters that heated the batteries to 86 degrees prior to fireing.
