View Full Version : How do I work with the .sdl file
Since no one seems to care that the engine sounds are all wrong I am having a go at implementing the parameters of Sh3's engine sound control into the new engine sound control.
I was thinking it would be as easy as copying and pasting the parameters dealing with the volume, and frequency from Sh3 .sdl file, concerning the engine sounds, to sh5's .sdl.
But this proved not to be the case.
I have seen people add sounds to the game, so they must be doing something with the .SDL files.
any help is greatly appreciated.

use Skwasjer`s S3D Editor...
but be carefull, there is something wrong with the sound system in the current 1.1.5 build (not only speach files or assignments), as i switched engines to 3D, the game ctd after some minutes, maybe something wrong with the EAX system, not shure... i think there is also a problem with free moving and variable engine rpm sound frequency like in SH3 and some special moded camera behavior.

skwasjer's S3D (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=119571) will still work on SDL files in SH5.
The Variable frequency is the very crux of why I want to look at these files, but so far no luck. I no longer think this issue is to deal with the .sdl flie in the sound folder, but instead it is the sub's .DSD file.
What makes me think this? Because when I took Sh3's .sdl file and put it into SH5, the increase in volume with speed changes remained for the Diesel exterior and propeller sound (the interior sounds were not running due to their lack of presence in the Sh3 Sdl.)
I think, but cannot be sure, that the problem lies in the submarine file itself. But I am not sure how to work with controllers with silent 3editor.
Still trying though.

i think Diving Duck have the same problem with his diesel sound for Flatmonkey`s new Interrior for SH3
...as he enabled variable volume for the diesel engine for different fixed stations (zentrale & diesel engine room) by changing something in the subīs .dat file together with the doppler entry in the .sdl file.
but together with a free moving camera and the current old or overhauled sound engine, it seams that only one feature is aviable at the moment, frequency change or volume.
...better ask Diving Duck :D
