View Full Version : [WIP] RUB is Back
Just an FYI: the Real U-boat (RUB) mod is back once again for SH5. Just like with RFB, this will be a mod focused on realism. It will be a while before the first iteration is released (because I want to see what the patches change), but the mod is definitely being worked on. Good news. I will honestly be happy to help contribute to this and other such mods once I have a little more free time... and a little more motivation. SHV needs a patch big time before a team effort such as RUB can have a proper go at it.

I can't wait.
I've put a temporary hold on my SH5 playing so I don't become too disillusioned. Once the first release of RUB comes out I'll be able to bust it back out again.

Mod work is progressing well. We have (thanks in large part to Ducimus) conning towers and deck-mounted weapons exerting an appropriate amount of drag, dive rates adjusted for all subs, and some other stuff we're working on at the moment. A big project is going to be to get some semblance of realism with the special abilities.

This is the kind of announcement I've be waiting and hoping for.

One thing i hope that will be adressed is the total lack of life in our own and enemy harbours. It affects my own harbour the most. Strangely enought there is not a single mod that adress this yet.

Yes, all flak guns and the 88mm will cause drag. This will affect one's dive time, rate of depth change, acceleration, max speed submerged, and turning radius. It's one of the coolest realism features added to the game by the devs.

Not sure yet how I'm going to approach the damage modeling, as Observer (the mastermind behind the RFB damage model) hasn't been around lately.

Are you guys also going to add more playable subs to the game? I've heard the Type IX and Type XXI appear in the game as non-playables, though I haven't seen them myself.
Granted, it would be a big project (especially modelling the parts of the interiors that weren't present in SH4 U-boat Missions, as well as bringing the parts that were up to SH5 graphic standards), but with crew abilities that affect O2 consumption, battery charging rates and endurance it seems like making a Type XXI with realistic submerged speed, range and endurance shouldn't be all that tough in SH5... Of course, it'd also be awesome to walk into the XXI's torpedo room and see the hydraulic loading system in action. :)

All the fleet boats tetures are still there but dont mean the sub is
Many files contain references to subs not ingame cos they are left from previous game versions

Well the Type IX-D2 and Type XXI (I mean XVIII... :P) are in the u-boat missions pack. If they were ported over they would still require a lot of modeling and animating of compartments not present in SH4, but it'd be a pretty good start.

No plans for that, no.
BTW, yes, the mod is still "on the table," but I'm not going to go further with it until the ever-elusive patch is released.

Luke, thank you for working on RuB for this title. I haven't purchased SH5 yet, waiting for the patch sequence (which seems to be at a likely end, now) ... and wasn't convinced I would buy it anyway. However, if I can get back into an RuB mod, that is the key convincer for me!

I do hope the negative environment hasn't ground them down. Negativity spreads easily if you let it. I don't think there's any movement on the RFB (SH4 Fleet Boat) side of things either.

Great to hear that this is in progress. One plea: would it be possible to include a comprehensive document setting out what the megamod includes? The GWX megamod for SH3 was superb in that it included an excellent manual.
