The sun should be 1/2 degree as seen through the periscope. So should the moon, for that matter.

Yes. I only see the two downloads and nothing about a real sun mod. I'd like to try it out.

I like it, much more like what I see in actual sunsets (my pic from a recent cruise wife & I took):

http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/1541/img1792a.jpg

But others like their sun to be big. Suggest you give both to keep everyone happy.

Gammelpreusse

small one please!

It adds a sense of openess and vastness that I am missing a bit in the stock game for some reasons. The close drawing distance of the clouds also play into this, too.

P.S. great work!

With the photos below we finally can determine perfectly and without a doubt the size of the sun

since it changes with the time of the year from bigger to smaller (bigger in summer & smaller in winter) i think something right in the middle of the big and small one will be close enough to everyones opinion that they will all like it.

i would imagine there is no way to use different images based on the time of year it is.

+1.
Something like SH3cmndr could make the change depending on the season. Obviously we don't have that great tool here.

The sun in SH5 is no longer an image (texture).
The sundisk is hardcoded, the size and color are constant values from the env. cfg passed into the constant registers of the sky shader.

Unlike to SH3/4 the sun_halo texture is no longer rendered over the sun disk, either on purpose or it is one of the many things that were not completed for the release. Therefore, one can see in any camera angle the sun disc and not the sun glow over it like in the predecessors.

Sorry, but you must be thinking about a different solar system. The sun's apparent size does not appreciably change with season, it's always 1/2 degree across.

I know it is more than likely impossible, but how about having it like in real life where it looks big when on the horizon then seems to shrink when getting higher in the sky.
You know the whole curvature of the Earth thing, same with the moon.

Now that would be Awesome.

This is already implemented, open the EnvColor_xxx.cfg 's, and you can change the size of the sun in relation to the viewing angle

Wouldn't the size of the sun/moon be largely impacted by the zoom level of any camera taking a picture? These are all gorgeous sun photos, but being that the kaleun isn't 'taking pictures' of the sun/moon, the best idea is to simulate how the sun looks to the naked(drip covered?)eye... The small sun looks gorgeous IMO. :yeah:

Love the Small one..........

So that means the moon whould have to be the same size (In game of course).............. as a total eclipse fits the exact size of the sun????

Another magical mathmatical coincidence in this world:shucks:

Hi, i installed captnhelm lights mod but tweaked the following to my personnal liking : ...\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Cfg\lights

Open with notepad then look for :

[HDR Exterior]
...
LightShaftsDensity=0.5 (my personnal taste, but adjust as pleased.)

In the image shown at the top of this page in #46, one can see a moon behind the sun. And it is apparant that the moon is highlighted wrong. Maybe this screenshot can help determining what is wrong with the moon perhaps?

It seems that there is no direct relation between the sun and the moon. Hm, or maybe there is. The moon highlighting should be flipped 180 degrees around shouldn't it?
