Some days ago IFRT-WHUFC has released a nice colored maps mod:

Here is another version of sh3 map - following the idea of Hitman the land is also brown (more grey-brown), and the water is also grey (different colors) but the water gradient is different:

- there are only 4 gradient levels:
~0-50m
~50-100m
~100-150m
~>150m

The map is much more legible for me with those gradients and it looks nicer.

- the shallow water is darker, the deep is brighter.

This map is best to be used with attached StrTactMap.tga - it is modified by color to fit the map colors and I added a very subtle cloth texture to it (I like very much how it looks in game).

I am using this mod with OLC gui, so I don't know how it looks without the dark overlay of this gui.

Been using this map, and I really enjoy it. The only thing I could possibly suggest is making the terrain a bit darker for people not using OLC, but even as it is, it's still good enough for me.

The editing is simple if you have photoshop:

If you wish to do it yourself the only file that you must edit is data/terrain/pal/Terrain.act

There must be some simpler method to edit this file, but I do it by opening e.g. 4320_2160.raw in Photoshop, then Image>Mode>Grayscale, then Image>Mode>RGB Color, then Image>Mode>Indexed Color..., then in the window that opens Palette>Custom..., then Load and point to Terrain.act file - then in the same window you can edit the colors and save a new Terrain.act file. Thats it.

One more thing - remember that you can make subtle changes to map colour by changing colours of StrTactMap.tgaIf you don't have photoshop you can give me a suggested colour in hex and I will edit the file.

To bad it conflicts w/ MaGui 2+You can ignore this conflict, its nothing serious, it's only for StrTactMap.tga file, that is the background graphics of navigation map- in Magui it is blue/green, in this mod it is white/grey.

BTW, im courious, if you could make a version that does not remove the plotting helpers at the margins of Makman's MaGui 2+ at the navmap.
