View Full Version : [REQ] How to get the sound guy to report range?

Okay I've defined the "range to contact", and the hydrophone sweep/contact/warship shortcut keys.
Problem is: despite the periscope+hydrophone focus on the target warship, the "range to contact" function says "No contact selected". I have to climb down from the attack periscope, march to the sound guy, focus the listener by hand, and THEN it will work... then march&climb back, enter range into the "TDC"...
Solution?

I did not know that the hydrophone could be used to the get range to a contact. Was that even possible? Would that be possible with some kind of active sonar on the uboat?

The only time I get "No contact selected" when using my hotkey is if I don't have the vertical center of the UZO/Scope on the ship. I also believe it is my WO that is bound to give me that info, not the sound guy. I didn't bind it myself, I use the one with the Commands Mod.

I don't know squat about IRL, but these two functions (estimate/precise range to contact) sure did work in SH3 too! :) Without any sonar.

It's not the same. The WO's function only works on the surface (of course) and it's the "Report nearest visual contact" function.

Well I do it submerged looking through the scope and get a range, so apparently it does not only work on the surface.
