thanks and credit goes to Irish1958 for his excellent idea in suggesting this arctic version! Please note the arctic module contains an additional file to provide snow cover for the decks
This version will work with the Type VII C boats, download link below
Due to the enormous size of the full mod (768mb) I have decided to upload only the NSS_Uboat7c_coning.tga for each of the 3 patrol stages. This mod is compatible with any skin you are presently using and only the NSS_Uboat7c_coning.tga will be replace. There wont be the weathering on the tread plates, UZO, and Flak gun anymore, unfortunately
This mod will replace your conning tower textures with very hi resolution textures (4096 pixels). I figure we spend a lot of time on the deck, might as well put some work into it. This mod consists of 3 modules which you can enable depending on how long you've been at sea .
Just leaving port in your squeaky clean boat (activate Early module):

I plan on testing this today. I think this has a potential to look really good. I would adjust the textures if needed to work well with your lightmaps, so they work together well

thats a good suggestion, if there is a demand I can make versions for type 2 and 9 since most of the hard work is done in my .psd files

There are probably several ways to do it. The one I use is cumberson as I don't really understand how to use the config files of SH3CMDR.
The first thing to do is install JSGME in the CMDR folder. Then you make the files in the way you want, and install them into the CMDR mod file.
The file you introduce into the file structure of SH3CMDR is the date folder.
You select the date you want the files installed into SH3 and set the file structure for the SH3 data folder which you include in the CMDR date folder.
I have a mod called "War Radio" which uses this file structure. The best way to understand how this works is to download the mod and study it.

Hi Aces, yes the first version may be fine on many systems, however, on some the mod may produce a CTD when using a type VIIC boat. I usually test these mods on the tutorials (easy loading) and those are all type VIIB,s. The only difference in the two versions is the amount of compression applied to the image.

Yes, I can confirm that! I get during unzipped with 7z always an error message that a file is corrupt (from both Download Sources)! :wah:

@Myxale Yes, I am making a version for the type 2 and 9 boats. The good thing is you apply this mod on top of any skin you like and you will have the benefits of the rusting conning tower over time. If you dont use a skin, then you will have the GWX skin (one of my favorites)

That takes a bit of work, but it should do the job.

That takes a bit of work, but it should do the job. thanks a lot for that info sailorsteve, it sounds like it shouldn't be too hard to set that up. Im content with simply uninstalling one module and then installing another in the series, when I want a diferent level of weathering, but i must admit the SH3 commander option sounds very cool

Exactly correct; however, for a full patrol, one would have to save and continue many times. For anyone using CMDR ("don't leave port without it") this should not be a problem. And for anyone using the typeII with short patrols, having the boat age over several patrols is probably also realistic.
One might also consider using a Winter, icy boat when appropriate.

Irish, thats a fantastic idea. Using my current templates, I can try to make an arctic patrol version which gets icier as you go north. Let me look into this and if people want this I can do it

Mods that change certain features such as campaign data or zones data, things like this, will screw up your game, texture mods will not

Yes, you´re right ! FileFront is very slow...:zzz:on thing to keep in mind is that I rely on the hit counter to determine how many people are downloading the mods so I can decide what to put more work on based on popularity, filefront is my main mods hosting site, but if its slow, there's sea wolfs hosting site as well:salute:

V4 of the mod will include a grungy interior-greasy surfaces, soiled notebooks and map, also grungy dials, etc etc. So you will get a feeling that you've been at sea a while.....

UPDATE:
to make any of my conning tower textures to work with v 2.12 of test pilots u boat (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160990):
1. open any of the conning tower Mod folders and navigate to \data\Textures\TNormal\tex
2 make a copy of "NSS_Uboat7c_coning.tga" and rename that copy "NSS_Uboat7B_coning_TP.tga" (without the quotation marks )
