I have just passed my final practical driver test to become a suburban train driver for Cityrail here in Sydney, Australia!
Over a year of training, 300 hours of driving at all times the day, in any weather.
I get my keys, pass and new roster tomorrow! Then I'm let loose on the network by myself!:yeah:

Thank god you're not on Metro down here in Melbourne. Just kidding Bookworm, congrats.
And if you're delayed let the passengers know why. We appreciate having info!

Congrats and well done! Remember - no texting while your driving! Stay safe and keep er on the rails!
Phones have to be switched off while driving. If you are caught on the phone, you can be fired.
Do you get to pull the lever that makes the "whoo whooooooo" noise? Because that would be awesome.
Yes! But I have to be careful, people complain if I use it too much!:03:
Congratulations! If I ever visit Sydney can I get a ride in the locomotive? Ever since I was a kid with a train set i've wanted to do that.
Have t be careful about that, I can be fired if I let unathorized people up front. If I could let people in, my Dad would be up the front in a heartbeat!
Just don't SPAD whatever you do ;)
I'll be trying to avoid it! (Signal Passed At Danger) This side of the red signal I get paid, the other side, I pay!!!!:damn:
And if you're delayed let the passengers know why. We appreciate having info!
We try, but sometimes we are left in the dark as well!:damn:

'Gratz.
You don't have to sell tickets to the passengers, just drive the train, right? Makes the job about 50 % easier if there's no actual face to face 'customer service' involved.

You know, I'm perfectly positioned for being a Metro driver in D.C. I live about a mile from the end of the longest line.
I think mass transit jobs, once you have them, aren't going to go away. As long as you aren't GROSSLY incompetent, pulling a Homer Simpson or whatever.

No I don't have to sell tickets. I just sit in my drivers cab and smile, as I at least get a seat on the train!

If you are grossly incompetent, they promote you to managment!

Some of the ore trains they have working in northern Australia are over 2km long! The power would be nice, the braking wouldn't!:o

Congratulations Bookworm, expect you'll be moving over to Rail Simulator now?
A friend of mine drives freight trains in Scotland- his favourite yarns usually involve collisions with sheep. Apparently they simply explode- I presume at the point of impact and not before.
