View Full Version : 1st time 100% realism
Well, I've allways played sh3+gwx3.0 on 78% realism (external camera and noise meter was on). Yesterday I started a new campaign with 100% realism. First mission with VIIB was little boring, but as soon as the war started excitement started as well. Lost several ships with sonar (this was frustrating), but I managed to sink 2 coastal freighters with my deck gun. :arrgh!:
All the suddenly I've met a convoy. When I approached the convoy felt the adrenalin in me like never before. Checking everything, from escorts to how many ships. I've prepared for the attack over 40 minutes, and when I was ready I fired 4 torpedoes and skunked 2 medium cargo merchants. I was happy like a little child (my wife thought I went crazy and started yell at me because I'll wake the neighbors). Anyway a destroyer hunted me down and I've managed to escape after some time . If I knew that game is so exciting on 100% I've would play it much before.
Sorry for my bad English, I only wanted to share the thrilling experience with you.

Good Job Ceki!
I'm always playing with 100% just the external Camera is on for Screenshots.
I've prepared for the attack over 40 minutesI known that too well, good preperation is the half attack. :yep:

It's quite a thrill playing with Manual Targeting/No Ext.Cam
Everything must be double/triple checked. Last minute speed/course checks, torpedo settings are very important, your next move must be planned and all that. It really feels you are there and doing it, the stress is huge and the joy after a successful attack is awesome!
Well done sir

Yeah, feels good eh?
Wait 'till you get depth charged :DL
With externals off it's very exciting!

I haven't figured out exactly why the game is such a thrill like that. There is something about sneeking around with the enemy just 100m off the bow and compleetly oblivious to your preseance. Then when you finaly decide to annouce yourself with a volly of fire that results in an epic explosion. What I can't figure out is if it is just a game and there is no risk to life or limb if you are discoverd and there is no great reward for a sucsesful attack. Strange.

The other half in 1944 is shooting just before the escorts pounce on you and you sink... eh?

For me the Camera not Count's, it's just necessary to consider the Camera as a realsim Option. (For me) I'm taking maybe 1-2 Screenshots per Patrol otherwise i'm in the boat the whole time. ;)

If you tweak the CFG settings you can have anything you want activated and the realism seeting at any figure of your choice. :know:

Heh, not me. Trig gives me migraines.
Today on 5th patrol, my submarine and crew became casualty of war. Two destroyers were too much to handle. Quite sad actually, crew and officers repairing the sub and she's slowly sinking in the depths of the abyss. When I realized that I can't control the sub, I took my headphones and looked at screen. Funny, there was quite sad music from TV (what my wife watched), on that point I recalled scene from movie "Das Boot". Altogether, last 10 seconds of the game was very... I don't know word for it so I'll say emotional.
Well, a new career awaits.

I always try to set myself up at 90 degrees to the ships track at a range of about 800m.Helps keep things simple :DL
Check out Rockin Robin's video tutorial in the SH4 forum, the John P Cromwell attack,he draws out a vector analysis diagram of the attack which really made it clear, finally got my head round it,though I've never actually tried it yet.
If only I knew in school that I would end up playing subsims and I would finally have a practical use for all that angles and stuff I might have listened more :damn:

@ceki,
A sad end indeed.Funny how we can bond with our boat and her crew and the feeling of helplessness we have as the boat sinks out of control.
Anyway, good luck with the new career :salute:

Sorry you lost the boat, Ceki but thumbs up on going 100%.
It realy does give SH3 a whole new thrill, and every achievement is a high.
Just having to figure out the direction of travel for a contact (friend or foe) is a whole new world without the WE's help.
Enjoy your "new" SH3. It only gets better.

Mine says 99%, because I like to have 'Teleport' should I actually need it.

Enjoy your "new" SH3. It only gets better. When I make contact I travel to it with full speed on surface, than when I reach the approximately spotting position, then dive and listen. I follow contact until I make visual contact with target. Then I make all necessary preparations for attack.
This method I use, although I can't say that my procedure is correct. Maybe, someone more experienced can give you more info.

If it works for you and your happy then I would say it is the correct procedure
