View Full Version : How does the NYGM anti-humming bird feature works?

Hi,

I like the NYGM anti-humming bird feature very much and would like to understand how it works. From old comments I gather that it somehow uses the pump of the XXI (and thus, breaks it). I guess the pump of the XXI is used to increase the mass of the other boats, but I have no clue how it works in detail. If anyone could give me some hints how it works, where to look, and which files it uses I would be very happy.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers, LGN1

Hi again,

does anyone know whether the anti-hummingbird mod in NYGM is optional in the current version 3.xx? If it is, would someone be so kind and upload only the mod files and the corresponding unmodded (NYGM) files for comparison reasons? That would be great

Thanks for any help.

Cheers, LGN1

The anti-humming bird mod is implemented in NYGM, and AFAIK there is no version without it. There was however, a separate release of the mod some time ago, and I still have it in my HDD.

This is the readme, if it is of any use:

The NYGM Anti Humming Bird Mod is a feature where the u-boat can no longer hover at all stop. At all stop, the u-boat will slowly sink (I would have referred to have positive buoyancy but this has too many bad side effects) at a very slow rate.

I know what your thinking, “Oh no! I am going to sink and die when I get to the crush depth because I wasn’t glued to the computer screen!!” Thankfully not. For the VII U-boat to reach its crush depth of 346 metres it will take 3 hrs and 48 minutes to happen.

At speeds of 0 knots you will slowly sink at the rates listed below. At speeds of 1 knot you can maintain depth but not change to a lesser depth. To change depth you need speeds of 2+ knots.

Sink rates per 10 metres at 0 knots is IIa = 12 minutes; IId = 15 minutes; VII = 16 minutes and the IX = 21 minutes.

NOTE: The VII u-boat will take 3 hrs and 48 minutes to reach its crush depth of 346 metres

The NYGM Anti Humming Bird Mod was designed for the Type II, VII & IX and as a result breaks the XXI.

Additional fixes
With the NYGM Anti Humming Bird Mod now when the Type II batteries are destroyed this will result in 100% loss of battery power and not 75% as was the case previously.

Compatibility with other Mods
The NYGM Anti Humming Bird Mod is 100% compatible with all mods including nvdrifter’s various longer/extended repair mods & Grey Wolves with the proviso that the NYGM Anti Humming Bird Mod breaks the XXI.

Special Note for users of nvdrifter's various longer/extended repair mods. The NYGM Anti Humming Bird effect may cause increased depth keeping difficulties.

To enable the NYGM Anti Humming Bird please install the modified U-Boat files and edit the Zones.cfg file and replace the original values for [PumpsXXI] with the NYGM values.

Hi Hitman,

thanks for the information

I found the thread:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom//showthread.php?t=97706

Unfortunately, all the links are dead

It confirms that the only files involved are the zone.cfg and the *.zon files of the submarines.

Could you please upload the mod somewhere so that I could get it and take a look at the files? That would be great!

Thanks, LGN1

Thats correct.

If i remember correctly, In the zon file, what is added is a type 21 pump damage zone. This is so the type21 pump defined in the zones.cfg can "hook" into the uboat the zon file is from, and apply its rewritten mechanics so the boat has negative boyancy.

edit: I had a GWX compaitible version of this at one point, though i doubt it will still work after all this time.

edit2: Here's an old file listing i made.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=107163

To D/L any file off of my server, you'll have to right click on the link, and "save as", and save the file directly. If you click on it, it will just try and load the file in the browser. Keep in mind those files were written for an older version of GWX (i forget what number, hell im not even sure what the latest version is) and are not supported by anyone.

Thanks, Ducimus!

I have downloaded the mod and will take a look at it. I will not use it directly, but look how it works and implement it on my own. Again, thanks a lot!
