View Full Version : CTDs : Is there a maximum number of subs that one can add ?

I have been getting more and more CTDs with our subs

ok now we have 14 of them, not all of them will make it to the IJN campaign though.

Sometimes I get CTDs going from one, which I test in campaign, then exit , then start another campaign with another sub, then bang ! CTD

I try the very same sub when I start over, and it works...

And those, like the J1M, were subs I used to actually play with before we added more subs to the mod..

also :

how to set up three subs that differ only in the sub.sim without having to copy all their respective files ?

is there a way let's say, to only have the .sim in the subs directory ?

regards,

Keltos

On the second part of the question, it has partially been done with the Fleet Boats. The S boat S-18 and S-42 use a lot of the same files. The Tambor and the Gar same situation. But if you only change the Sim you have the same name, classname, roster entry, equipment etc, so I think you would need to do more than just the .sim file otherwise why have 3 subs?

What would be different in the .sim file if the .dat and the upcge are the same? If the .dat and upcge are the same why would the subs be different except maybe range or propulsion. But even if that was the case you would want to have different names so you can distinguish between them.

ok I agree but in the submarine directory only the propulsion/range differ, and 2 more torpedoes on the JB 3. They Already use the JB tower, this would "lighten" our mod without sacrificing the number of available subs

any clues about the CTDs ?

If the torpedoes are different you would need the upcge because they are in there too. You would definately need the sub.cfg file, that links to the 3D model. But the cfg would point to the JB.dat file and that would be linked to the JB.sim file so I don't see how you could include just the .sim, you couldn't link to it.
So, after looking it over, I think if you change the .dat .sim .zon .val. .cam or .dsd you would need to include them all since they link with IDs.

No idea yet on the CTD. So far it only seems to happen when you exit to the menu and change certain subs and reenter the game without actually exiting the game. Which would most likely cause a problem if you were ever offered a new sub. More testing is in order to find out why.

two more for the JB3 for a total of 19 torpedoes

we need it cause the wieght was different as was the propulsion

keep them for now then...

which of course most gamers won't do, I did it to test the subs since loading takes so long..
