Urgent help required ;

Hi guys..I just downloaded GWX 3 Gold and am dying to play, but this old bug-bear with the 1.4b patch has reared its head and I don't know what to do ! I hada similar problem before which was solved on this forum, but the message i am getting this time ( EVERY time I try and apply the patch to a basic load of SH3 ) is different. Please can I ask you to help solve this ?

I have made sure that it is a completely clean load ( all previous SH3 files have been deleted !)..and yet when I try to apply the patch I get this message :

"This program cannot update the installed version of Silent Hunter III EMEA Download V1.0, V1.1 and V1.2 because of the following reason :
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\MissionEngine.dll:un known version"

If anybody can solve this I would be very grateful ! Thanks guys.

First off is your install already at 1.4
All new released discs come patched already
Run game and look in corner will tell you version or simply right click the SH3 exe in the SilentHunterIII folder then properties then details
Will tell you the exe version

Failing that go to the folder mentioned and delete the MissionEngine.dll then try again

Hi guys...ok after my previous mistake I did the whole thing again..everything by the book...no problems at all...EXCEPT...when I open up the Grey Wolves 3 through SH3Commander it loads the whole thing until.. I get the generic message box saying Silent Hunter 3 has encountered a problem and needs to close !!...Please can anyone tell me what is going on ? Thanks guys

When you unistall, there is also an SH3 folder in your documents folder that needs to be manually deleted.
Maybe you missed this.
Also, after you installed GWX and Commander, you need to install a config file to run both together, called 'GWX3 GOLD Config Files for SH3 Commander'.
Maybe this step is missing?

Remember to perform a registry clean to remove any residual files/traces if you have had a previous installation.

You did delete the SH3 folder in C\MyDocs didn't you? :hmmm:

Here is what I would do
Uninstall with the disc uninstall program.
Clean your registry
Clean your document folder
Make sure you have run the MD5 on your GWX3.0 download
Check the Ubisoft folder and delete any files in it, and then delete the Ubisoft folder
Check your Computer/whatever drive you OS is on/user/owner/AppData/Local/ and make sure that there is no Ubisoft or SilentHunterIII folder; if there is, delete it
Do a search for Ubisoft and Silent Hunter and delete any found files.
Defrag your hard drive.
If windows vista or 7, make sure you install in a folder outside of the program or program(86) folder.
Install SH3 then GWX outside of Program/program(86) into a folder called "Games"
Make a copy of the SilentHunterIII/GWX install and place it on a DVD or external hard drive.
My fresh install is 4.8GB, so you may need a double DVD disc. Or you could cut the Mods, Support and Document folder from the install to get the size below 4.38GB. Copy them to a separate DVD and then restore them when you need to reinstall the setup.
(In addition you may have to delete the SHIII Key in the InstallShield folder to get the program to install, which I had to do, as the InstallShield program kept reinstalling this registry key which make my OS think that SHIII was already installed.)
Once you have your copy of SHIIIGWX3.0, reinstalling is a snap, or having more than one install (with SH3MultiInstall) is a snap
I would suggest that you also have a copy on DVD of SilentHunterIII1.4b so you can experience the other major mods, which are different, but enjoyable.

Did you add in the GWX3 specific cfgs for SH3commander ?
Check Jimbunas FF page - link on his sig - for the files if you didnt
Will cause a problem them not being added in

And dont try use an old career - not that its likely you have one having installed
