Why doesn't Ubi release the game for PS3 and XBOX 360? There must be 60,000,000 of those things worldwide at least. Ubi could realize more profits and perhaps all of us subsimmers would get more consideration for extras in the PC version? All it would take would be the right press spin and some real nice cover art to get the teen and adult gamers going nuts for it. That's how It started with Intellivision way back when.

Because they want to revel in our angst.
Seriously, that's a good question. They could (or just might as well) release a shoot-em-up arcade game that would appeal to a very broad audience. I could see a market for that, particularly with the DnD RPG elements they've now incorporated.

:nope: If a subsim ever goes console, that would mean less extras for the PC version, not more. Meaning the game would be simplified.

You know, there's more likelihood that I'd buy it on Xbox than PC. Why? Because I wouldn't expect as much on Xbox - I'd expect arcady, McDonald's-like fair that I could quickly throw on the large screen, flop on the lounge and go hunting. Mindless stuff.
Not what I want or expect on the PC though.
Why do people assume that a SH game has to be dumbed down if it goes console?
There are some extremely good examples of great and complex games on consoles i.e Dragon Age for instance. SH5 which comes with very few keyboard shortcuts and would do fine on a console. There are a number of ways to make menus on a console and Dragon Age is a good example of that.
A lot of people assume games has to be dumbed down and with some gametypes, yes, it's being done. But that's mainly done with FPS/shooters due to the slower reaction time from the controller when one needs to turn/move fast. In a game like Silent hunter it wouldn't be needed.

What about the plotting tools, kind of hard to use with those ridiculous controllers?
What about polygon count and texture sizes, do you really think we'd get high-rez ones for the PC and low-rez ones for the consoles? Once upon a time, sure, but not lately - look at Flashpoint Dragon Rising.
I'm really not sure how many CPU cycles complex visual and sonar modelling takes up, but pretty sure it would tax consoles.
SHV has a footprint of 15 gigs. Loading times on the console would be ridiculous.
You have a point in that there were many games, and not too long ago either, that had numerous enhancements in the PC version. But those days are over.
Dragon Age? All that had in the PC version was mouse support.

Size has nothing to do with it. Mass Effect 2 are about 15Gb to and there are games bigger than that. There are ways to do things and workarounds for most of it. And both PS3 and X360 supports install to HD.
I'm pretty sure it can be done and i'm not going to be surprised at all if the next SH game comes out on console to.
Btw, Dragon Age on PC is NOT a direct port. It was developed strictly for PC and have the tactical view and a whole different GUI compared to the consoles. Check before holding a speech ;)
And how highres the textures are is not an argument or even an issue. point is... i'm quite sure it can be done and still look great. Mass Effect 2 looks awesome on consoles even if the PC version has abit better textures.

Doubt it. I know a game which is 45GB, with no HDD install and has ZERO loading.
TBH though, that type of optimisation is outside of UBIs capabilities.
@ the OP
Around 72 Million actually. ;) However, in honestly, the average console junkies mind would implode if presented with SH5 on a console. Not enough button mashing, Not enough Blood, Not fast enough....basically it's not MW2.:rotfl2:
There is a minority of console owners who are actively pursuing simulations to come to the consoles but TBH the developers don't see the financial return. Who can blame them.
Edit - If (big if) SH5 (or the next version) is destined for the consoles, can the Devs please remember that the PS3 has plug and play capabilities for all Keyboards and Mice on the market. I would buy a SH game for the console if I don't get limited to a game pad.

I would buy one to :)

Yeah... :hmmm:
Maybe on the periscope screen they could make each button (square, triangle, circle, X) fire a different kind of torpedo, and there could be special combos like X-O-O-X does a Mega Strike that hits all the escorts. Time compression could be cranked up to 1,000,000,000X to avoid players having to wait more than two seconds for something to happen. Air attacks could be handled using QTEs (press X to not die). Yeah, I think that could work!

Well, more sales to the Console market would increase the chance of an all-new, (and I mean ALL-new) Silent Hunter 6 :hmmm: :yeah:

to be released on consoles as well.
Its money they want, do not forget that.
Greeeeat. Lets have our subsims on console now, hey we already have required connection to the net right... nice future for simulations. :dead:
And yes, if a simulation gets console-ized it will be dumbed down. Not only because of the lack of keyboard, but because of the console audience, the casual gamer.
It's not for nothing that there's no realistic flight sim on console. SH is less complex than a flight sim yes, but still a little too complex for the average console-sit on the sofa eating chips- gamer.
edit; and just a reminder, it's not like the console guys will have their version and the PC guys will have a more complex one. They'll both be the same, it's just a port.
So... we still want SH series to go console?

I could see 360 being an option, since its not too far off from being a PC, but not the PS3. Way too different.
Still though, to port it to the 360 would cost money, and we dont know if they have it. Besides, the game wouldnt sell well anyway.
Most sim players have gaming PCs, the 360 crowd is much different, sims dont sell well on it at all.

huh? the PS3 has the same features and even more. PS3 supports mouse and keyboard, both USB and bluetooth. And how it would sell is just a speculation. The PS3 is no different than X360 other than the hardware and looks. Both do the same jobs and offer the same functions. I have both and i prefer PS3. Faster and cleaner GUI and way less noisy. And the fact that i can use a keyboard and a mouse for surfing and similar tasks.
Ubisoft has money for it no doubt. But there might be engine limits preventing such a port to consoles. Other than that i can't see why it can't be done.
SH5 could be the last title for the PC, the crew setup is like a console game already.
If the sales are bad or not what Ubi expected they might drop PC titles altogether and focus on the console market.
That means no more modding and Subsim is dead in 10 years from now on 'cos there is no sub simulation to talk about.

That was because of some image Brandytran had in his post, it has been removed.
Remember, if you ever come across anything like that, Report Bad Post http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/smartdark/report.gif

Certainly sounds like it to me as well. From what we've learned so far it has many arcade and gamey elements that would make it a perfect console fit down the road....

My apologies to all about that popup--linked to an image on my sharepoint, and apparently was asking everyone for credentials. Chalk that one up to ignorance on my part. I won't be adding images from my sharepoint to any posts in the future!

Thanks, man. Those popups are like a waking up next to a hairy fat lady--I don't know how she got there and worse, I don't wanna know.
"The only remaining limitation is the PC exclusivity, which Dimitrescu said might change. While the focus is, as it always has been for Silent Hunter, getting the game for the core PC gamer, the industry has changed, and consoles might be in the future. It doesn't appear to be a giant leap for the series, with a focus more on historical accuracy and realism instead of simulation,"

who stated, the game is not beeing released for consoles???
Probably they need to simplify the game 10 or 20 times more to make possible to control uboat with gamepad. Even fully arcade game like Battlestation Pacfic haven't been released to consoles. This time Ubi failed, but SHVI is comming...
would have been happy if they would have put Battlestations Pacific on PS2 like they started to but nooooooooooooo

but SHVI is comming...
just because one guy no different then you or me decided to say in a forum that they might make a sh6 "one day" suddenly people get the idea there is even such a plan to have it.
only and its a very very big only if sh5 breaks all sorts of sales records the company has never seen before then and only then would there be any chance that UBI "may" consider another SH game

They do it. Ubi has game engine ready and everything to make another SHVI on the Pacific. I guess they are able to make new sub for player with that crew thini - Gato and Japs ships in less then half year.
