View Full Version : Ocean too blue MEPv3

I have an issue with the color of the ocean using MEPv3 Environment. To me the ocean is too blue....all the time. Before I loaded MEP the water would change to the color according to sunlight and cloud cover/weather in general. Stock and GWX colors are fine. I opened the Env dat files and took a look at the parameters of the colors between MEP against the GWX/Stock dat files. There is a significant difference. I like MEP/Magui mods....just not the water. I have a hard time with blue, blue, blue water in a raging North Atlantic storm when the water is usually a gray/greenish hue with the other Env files.
I am not trying to start a ruckus. Just wondering if over-writing the Env dat files over the MEP Env files would be OK? I am using the Flat Sun fix. I do not want to dump MEP, just change the color of the water back to what it was before.

I guess you could edit colour of the sea using SH3 editor.

Hello Comet,
xm....colors,colors and....colors!
you can try it to see the result but my opinion is that is not a good idea becuase not only the envcolors.dat is responsible for the look of water.
skycolors.dat and scene.dat is effecting the final result so ,for me, thats not a good idea.
if you like mep v3 only becuase of its 20km environment (and not for its colors) then you can try Hitman's ''GWX - 20km Atmosphere (Unofficial Mod)'' which is also 20km environment but it uses the colors of Olc's environment so i think that you will be fine with it
ps:no need to explain your intentions ...feedback is always wellcome (and productive to most of cases) but for this reason exists the M.E.P's thread so its better(for the others that are not interested) to post your comments-thoughts there instead of opening new threads
bye
Hi Comet.
As Makman has pointed out, I would advise against mixing the scene dat and env dats from different mods.
You could try 'RIK007 SH5 Water for SH3'
Get it here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=158921&highlight=water (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=158921&highlight=waterI)
I think it will give you the look you are after.
EDIT: It is a 16km mod, not 20km.
I tend to switch between this and MEP 2.1 every few patrols, as I cannot decide which one I prefer. They are both very good.

Thanks for the replies fellers. I had no real intention of editing the dat files myself...not that brave. :shifty: I'll live with what I can. I am in mid patrol right now and will think about making the necessary changes if I actually go that far. Thanks!!
Also, I would like to add my thanks to Makman for his work on MaGui and MEPv3. It is a great mod!!:salute:

I have over-written with Hitman's GWX 20k (unofficial mod) successfully. The water is back to where I like it. Also, I reloaded the FlatSun fix for MEPv3 and it works fine. However, since the GWX 20k mod insertion I have witnessed some graphic anomalies with the FlatSun Fix during sunset and sunrise. On cloudy days the sun will shimmer in and out behind the clouds, BUT...only if I go to external view and raise my view up. If I am on the bridge or close to the water surface it will not do it....so no big deal there. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion and I am indeed enjoying MaGui/MEPv4 environment.
