For a change i would like to ask Ubi
How much would you charge us for a subsim like the one this community desperately wants?
Can you estimate the time it would take to develop it?
Like the one this community desperately wants? 10 years

Like the community desperately wants? The community desperately wants disparate things. Some desperately want the full Das Boot interior; others a properly functioning AI at all levels. Things a lot of the community desperately want are things others of us couldn't care less about. Some of us don't want intractive crews and submarines at all, but a good patrol and combat simulator with a tie-in convoy escort simulator. Others of us just want to walk around inside the whole boat.
Both are possible, but very unlikely. Which part of the community are you?

exactly.
the list of "wants" is a long and varied one.
Ubisoft has to do their best to accommodate those wish lists without spending billions of dollars on R&D and logistics.
i think SHV will be fine

To cover everyones needs would take years and cost an absolute fortune :o
I'd be interested in the answer though :DL

i say its costs absolutely nothing.
have a selected group of experienced modders sign away all rights to anything resulting from the project and confidentiality agreements.
then supply them with the SDK for sh3 and sh4+UBM and within a years time you will see a completed game with all the combined elements of the best from sh3 and sh4
with all due respect to the devs it will be better than anything they can do with their limited time and budget constraints.
then ubi simply can use it as is or make improvements where they see fit and add in an updated game engine and 2010 grafics (maybe the one from sh5).
this will produce THE most accurate and best subsim game to date.
as for sh5, it can still be sold to the casual gamers to pay for developement costs of that game.

Oh yes :haha:
In fact in these dark times of economic crisis, its a nice little money spinner, I think Ill form my own company and call it Combat pap/ X2 ****eware.
Step 1: I wait for this community to create some free mods
Step 2: I screw them up a bit, so it looks like my own work (abit).
Step 3: I compile it into a buggy mess (because I dont actually know or care for what im doing)
Step 4: I burn it to a CD
Step 5: I sell it back to you guys for $20 a peice.
WOOT! IM RICH! :woot:

There's the business plan RIGHT THERE! :yeah:
You'll make a motsa.
Might lose some friends though. :hmmm:
An on the box it will say TYPE IX ADDED - although really it will actually be a VII mesh stretched out in 3DSmax...
Oh an what the hell.... the conning tower will be up-side-down too (just for for that authentic X1 look)
UBI how much would it cost?
Hopefully not much more then $49.00 usd, it seems there is a slew that are having hemroids, hernias, and heart attacks from that price tag alone! :haha:

It will cost us:
All our money + loans
Our houses
Our cars
And Sexual favours for the rest of our lives.
And the propellers will still spin the wrong way :D

Well, SH5 might be a measly US$49 for you guys, but it's US$82 here...the standard price for all new full releases. That's an extra 67% (and that's not currency conversion, as our $ is roughly equal to 92 US cents).
On principle I'm very particular about what full priced games I buy, because there are many that are easily worth that amount. Alas, there are also many that are not. Fortunately, most that are not worth it get the more budget AU$70 or AU$50 price tags. Were SH5 AU$50 or even AU$70, I'd buy it no questions. AU$90, while not an issue for me (I can spend more on lunches), still invokes value for money considerations and comparison and principal aspects.

Dont mean to make lite of it JS, but for one purchase they crowd is going wild.
I purchase games from my daughter and her Xbox 360 with a leap of faith so many times its not funny.
I've also got burned many times in the past, but we all know the development team behind this series and I would think that we could trust their judgment on what we want, or at least give us the door to walk threw.

Actually I think that to be a proper and valid question. Most serious simmers would prefer a well done and the most polished version possible and would not mind paying extra for it. As an example, Falcon 4.0 (and all it's incarnations) has given me literally THOUSANDS of hours of gameplay. I see and understand the responses here, but why not spend extra time creating a sim with all the options everyone could ask for, out of the box? As opposed to 999 mods, where one overwrites another creating more problems than what you started with. Don't get me wrong. I fully appreciate all the modders and the dedication spent improving the game for many. However, there have been so many smaller mods produced that one could find attractive, but would conflict with a "supermod". Not everyone has the patience or knowhow to edit an "ini file" to mod the game the way they may prefer. All I'm trying to say is....Produce a game with as many options as possible, works well out of the box, does not need patching, looks great, and I seriously don't think anyone considering purchasing the game to begin with, would mind paying extra. We would all be happier. However, this forum may not be as active! :DL:DL
I hear it coming....Those that will say "It's hard to sell ANY sim these days and they need to attract the non simmers too, so we also need to allow capability to play arcade style". I agree. One thing I've asked before and would like to ask/propose again is.....Why is it so hard to bulid a game with many options built in? Remember me speaking of Falcon 4.0? I'm sure many here are familiar with it. Remember when they added the "Config Editor" to the game? That was great! I still don't understand why someone can't create something along those lines for Silent Hunter. There MUST be a way to do it. Come on modders/Devs, put your minds to work, it must be somehow possible to do something similar?
