View Full Version : [REL] TarJak's Radio Deutschland
EDIT: I have modified the file and used a different conversion application to bring the file size down. Apologies to everyone who has consumed a shedload of bandwidth, but I think the new versions sound better and they are certainly smaller and easier on the bandwidth.

Radio Deutschland SH3 Grampophone Mod
This gramophone mod brings you almost an hours worth of radio listening from Radio Deutschland complete with tuning sounds, static, interference and atmospheric ambiance to make it sound as if you are listening to a distant radio broadcast. There is a mix of German language music, marches and news broadcasts. The file contains one long .OGG file with multiple tracks.
This is part one of a series which will include Radio England, Radio USA and Radio Francais. If I get time I'll try to do one for the Med as well. The others will be posted here once the uploads to FF are finished.
Installation:
Unpack the file into your Mods folder.
Install using JSGME of course.
Run the game and get your radio man to play the file. When it plays you will hear the radio turned on then warming up and tuning to get a station playing something to listen to.
Enjoy!:salute:

Same deal as the Radio Deutschland mod but for cruising past the British Isles listening in to their radio.
Enjoy.

Radio USA brings a half hour radio broadcast with Bing Crosby, Harpo Marx and other as well as a mix of US Jazz and swing classics.
Enjoy

Enjoy

They're all up there - check out posts 2, 3 and 4 and enjoy!
I've used a different and much more efficient conversion routine to create a richer sound as well as bringing the file size down significantly!
New links are now posted in the original posts above.
Again apologies to anyone who downloaded the earlier heavy versions. I think you'll be pleased with the change to this one.
I've now alo uploaded the files to the Subsim Downloads section.

Do I need to enable this via mod enabler, or could I just add the .ogg file to my Gramophone folder so that it enters the rotation with eveything else there?
I'm guessing the answer is yes, but I want to make sure!
If you enable it via the JSGME it will get copied into the directory and will not touch any of your other files that already exist in that folder. If you want to specify the order in which your gramophone files play then you need to copy it in then rename all the files so you can sort the order.
Remember to make sure that if you use SH3Commander that you disable the Randomise Gramophone tracks in the SH3C settings before you launch the game.

Okay, thanks. Still getting my onboard "record collection" sorted out so I'll be playing with that folder a bit anyway - definitely want some good radio options though, and these files look like they'll be awesome. :yeah:

So if the mod is enabled whilst the gramaphone folder is full of ogg.vorbis tracks, does the mod take its turn in the track listing sequence?
Yes as it is just another .ogg file in the folder.

Well I've been listening to bit of Radio Deutschland and me likey.
LOVE the sounds of radio warming up, trying to tune in station, etc.
Have scattered all but Radio USA here and there in current Gram folder - unlikely that I'll get close enough to the States to justify the pretense of pikcing up any of their stuff any time soon, lol.
(But I have it d/led just in case!)
I am pleased you like it.:shucks:
I wasn't going to bother TarJak due to the soon released SH5, but since that is going down the drain I may have to spark a new interest!!

Yep as I suspected.....doesn't detract from the quality within though http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

Hi TarJak,
thank you for your Mod!
It adds a lot of ambiance and realism to the game, I realy enjoy it.
I also added the USA version of your Mod to my Grammophone; is there a BBC verison available as well?
Anyway, thanks for your work, you are the "Rundfunkmeister"!

There is indeed a "Radio England" and also a "Radio Francais." Links to both can be found on the first page of this thread, in the first 4-5 posts. :DL

thank you very much, TarJak!
outstanding atmosphere, I really like all of these "radio-uploads".
(though I must admit Jimbuna's collections will not be displaced by yours, I simply need "all over the place" when leaving the port of Lorient)
thx a lot!! :yeah:
