Hello

It's a small modification of OLC great gui, that makes night hunting easier (and looks good even in daylight, at least for me).
It's just darker and red, nothing more besides periscope changed.

No mod, so you must change the file yourself:

But then the periscope will have red light also at day time, right?

Does anyone know a way to have the game pick the right one depending on the daytime?

You must set is with the red light entry as parent, but I don't know if that's possible in OLC or was removed alltogether. It's also complicated because it must be first of all, otherwise the things that come before will hide it. The game uses a "preference" system making things that are first in the menu display over those who come later.

There was redmask for olc: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom//showthread.php?t=125785 but there were still problems, as you can see in the screenshot on page 2 of this thread. So making it permament day or night-skin is the only option that comes to my mind, and there are no problems with it as with redmask. The problem would be solved if the game could use two files for periscope.tga - one for day and one for night, but I think it is impossible.

Hummmmm no, not impossible. You can make the nighttime background as child to the redmask parent in menu. The main problem is that you would need to move the redmask down the list to ensure everything displays on top of it

It's hard for me to understand what you have on mind.

Sorry, I though from previous comments you knew how the menu worked.

Menu works with parent menus and child menus. Parents are main entries, and childs are all the others attached to a parent. For example, you have a parent menu for all the torpedo lights, and then all torpedo lights graphics are attached to that menu in order to define them together as a logical group, set their relative position, etc.

Now, since you can theoretically place graphics attached to one of those submenus overlapping, you need to set a precedence. The game sets the first one it finds when going down the menu to display preferently, and hide the ones that appear later.

For this reason, the submenu for the redmask and darkmask are the first ones in the G26 (G2B & G28 for observation scope and uzo), so they can display translucently in red over the stuff that comes next.

If you want a background that displays whenever the light turns to red, you just have to attach it to the red mask menu, and both will appear together when the sub rigs for red. The problem is that this background will display OVER all other stuff, torpedo lights, switches, buttons, etc. :88)

Thank you for explanation. Still - too hard for me to realize such a work :(
