G'day all,

I have SH4 with the U-Boats and will freely admit I pay with manual targeting off, but am slowly teaching myself how to use it. But I digress, with all the mapping tools available in SH4 I have not figured out the sequence of events to actually plot an enemies course on the map prior to being in firing range; is there a tutorial or set of instruction somewhere so I can learn?

Thanks in advance

Bob

Hi yourself,

There are some good tutorials in the mod sections. Up near the top of each topic list you will see a sticky thread leading to all known mods.

Here is what I do, and I don't do manual targeting either.

Use the marker to put a mark on top of the enemy contact, zoomed in. That is postion one. Use the rule, zoomed out again, to put a line from just behind the target forward using his little course tail to indicate direction. Put in a line of about 10-20 miles. Another line from your sub to the X marking first contact will give you the distance.

I usually note the time that I placed the mark, since I will put one or two more marks further along his courseline. Measuring with the ruler between marks gives you time and distance. You note the time of each mark. The speed of the enemy can be had with those two pieces of info.

I use the ruler to place another line from my sub out to cross his course line some distance in front of where he is now. That is the distance to intercept point. Based on that distance, you can know if your speed is enough to reach it before he gets there. If not, speed up and alter course.

If you can't get there, move the line further along his path and check again. You may have to go to full or flank speed to get there.

Last, based on whether you use the 8 or 16 km view distance. (8 km is standard) use the compass tool to place a circle around the point of contact, where your two courses meet. The circle tells you when he/you might get a visual contact on the target.

That is a whole lot eassier than manual targeting. :yeah:
