View Full Version : The weirdest thing just happened to me, or how I discovered SHIV tracks planes' fuel

My proud Gato-class boat, USS Tullibee, had just sank Shokaku and Huryu in port at Rabaul after I was ordered to photograph Shokaku when this happened:

Seemingly every plane of the CAP went back to base and, when they couldn't land, went straight for me... and then crashed straight on New Ireland to the east.

Only the "sunken ship" icon the furthest from the coast (north of the small island between the two big ones) is a legitimate kill - a medium freighter of some sort I gunned down, I believe.

There are about 40 planes in there, and I'm sure I didn't see many crashes because I was out of range - I killed the two carriers with my last 8 torpedoes, and so I was heading back to Brisbane.

Just thought it was hilarious and that I'd share with you guys, if it hadn't already happened to you.

(for reference, using only RSRDC).

Not to take away your accomplishment, but are you sure they didn't just crash into the ground while still having fuel? I've noticed aircraft do that quite frequently, even on their outbound leg.

Maybe they thought the island was an American carrier and staged the largest mass kamikaze attack of the war.:dead:

I mean, I sink their home base and then they all crash? Eh...

They run into mountains there, seen it many a time. Never seen it on that level. I 've seen maybe a dozen crash there once, but not like that, but almost always planes heading that way run into the hills. Course stock doe's some funny things and RSRD messes with plane traffic, so who knows.

I do remember in stock if you were near carriers and they spotted you they sent everything at you. I once had a rotating door of planes going back and forth from the carrier group, probably 40 in the air all the time.
This went on non stop all day. I'm not sure how they spawn. I followed them back to the carriers with the cam and they just continued to fly on forever.

I was about shocked one time. I had over 80 planes show up on radar in formation..Turned out to be US..and why that group was still on radar another formation the same size appeared. I noticed they were dying somehow, so with the cam I caught up and they were all running into each other. They finally attacked a TF I was waiting on. I did pull over 20 pilots out of the sea before it was over.
