Good evening!

I have an odd question.

I have a SAPPHIRE 4850 512 with 9.12 CCC/driver version. - Windows 7/64 Ulti.

My power supply unit is a thermaltake 650W supplying the card with 18A at the 12V output.

Now: Is there any possibility that the Amperes are too low to supply the card so as Adaptive Antialiashing (AA) and Anisotropic Filtering (AF) could not work? I have a suspition that this happens to my card.

Thanks!

I don't think that's the case.
If your PSU won't provide the card with enough power, the card wont work either way, AA/AF on or not. How old is the PSU? It has only a single 12v rail? Did you conect the additional power cable in the card's 8 pins slot or you just inserted the card in the mainbord? Modern cards need more power, because the PCI Express slot only give about 75 watts.
Plese present the problem in more detail.
Anyway a 650w PSU should power a 4850 with no problems. It should be enough even for a 5870.

What makes you think low amperes is the problem? What are the symptoms exactly.

A couple of years ago during the summer I had my system locking up or rebooting whenever I played SH3 in graphics intensive situations. (convoys with explosions and such) It turned out my case had temperature problems. I knew there wasn't much airflow, but combined with the hottest days of the year and about 4 drives burning up watts, the dusty fan on my graphic card couldn't handle the fever. Dusting out the fan blades solved the instabilities.

Hi!

Well, the situation is this one:

I installed SH3-WAC in win7-64bit/Ultimate and the Resolution Fix (1360X1024) doesn't have any effect. Furthermore, I can see that although I change the acceleration settings (AA,AAA,AF) through CCC the quality doesn't change. Furthermore, in SH4, although I set the resolution to 1680x1050, the resolution changes indeed, but the accelerations are obviously not implemented.

I have a SAPPHIRE 4850/512

I have also the latest drivers and bios for the card and motherboard. The fan speed is set to 85% and all the 3D test (dixdiag/BurninTest etc) show "PASS" and recently I removed the dust and checked all the slots.

So I concluded that something is wrong with my PSU. All ATI recommended PSUs for 4850/512 have an output of 25A on the +12V supply so, as long as my Coolermaster PSU (650W) gives only 18A maybe this could cause the problem.

In windows XP I had another problem. The monitor went black, I could hear the game in the background and suddenly the PC was set to "Power Saving Mode". I noticed just before this happen, the accelerations would gone. In win7 I have not faced this yet but this will happen anytime I guess.

So I believe I either have a bad graphic card or a bad PSU or an inadequate PSU or an inadequate setting.

By googling it seems that many people have the same problem but I can't locate a certain solution. Definitely many people here face this too.

I see.
To exclude hardware problems te best thing is to take you PC to a PC shop to be checked, but 2 days away from New Year's Eve I guess this is not a option an you would have to wait at least untill next weak.
Another options are:

- check to see if you card has the additional power cable needed. It is a cable with six or eight pins that comes from the PSU and plugs into the card.

- play other games to see if the problem persists. Try a graphic intensive game like Crysis or FarCry2, something that is hard on the PC. Cranck up the settings. See if you need to force AA/AF or leave it on auto. If the problem persist then it is not your SH3/SH4 installations. If it isn't then something could be wrong with SH3/SH4.

- try a older driver. It could work. Sometimes newer doesn't mean better.
- do a clean installation of Windows. If your HDD is big enough install both WinXP 32bits and Win7. If you have more than 4gb of ram use Win7 64bits. I have WinXp 32bits for compatibility with everything and Win7 64bits just to see how it looks like. I don't use it much because I only have 2gb of ram and a Ati 3850

- there's a hardware problem. If that's the case then try to change the PSU and/or the Video Card to see where is the problem.

Thank you for the advices, I will send an email to ATI too.
I am not very optimistic anyway!

I forgot to ask. How many 12volt rails you have on the PSU?
I have a Chieftech 650w psu with 3 12 volts rail each at 18Amps. I have it from 2006 and it still works. My pc is:
Intel core2duo 8400@3ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte P43ds3l
2gb ddr2 1066 Mushkin
Ati 3850 512mb/ram
500gb hdd Western Digital
Creative X-fi Exreme gamer sound card.

I still think that the PSU and Videocard are fine. Ati 4850 is quite a performer. Install a older Catalyst. Try the one from 2-3 months ago.

PS. Try to play the game without any mods and see if you can use AA and AF. I personally make a profile in CC for games that need certain settings. For Sh3 I set the AA, AF, AAA directly from CCC

Hi!

I installed SH3-WAC in win7-64bit/Ultimate and the Resolution Fix (1360X1024) doesn't have any effect.

Hello !
In SH3 the resolution is limited to 1280 x 1024. Even with RezFix goes no higher resolution!

Best regards,
Magic

@ Magic111 are you sure? I am pretty sure that by changing the d3d9.cfg file to 1360x1024 or 1680x1050 there was a direct effect in XP. Afterall, the resolution of desktop remained to 1360x1024 after I exited the game.

@ bybyx. There are 2 outputs. It's this one:

@ Vendor. Which version do you use?

Again thanks!

Hi !
Yes, I'm very sure!

Please read the question from "Irish1958" and the answer of "blueduck" in the Living Silent Hunter Thread. I quote:

Congratulations on a great mod; it is accurate, loads fast, and is very enjoyable.

My setup is:
Gateway model No.: MS2252 (P-7805U)
CPU: Intel Centrino2 P8400 at 2.27Gh, 2.28Gh(Core Duo)
4Gb DD3 RAM
Windows7 (via upgrade from Vista) 64 Bit Home Premium
Video card: nVidia GeForce 9800m GTS with 1Gb Ram
Driver: driver 182.xxxm at 1440x900 resolution (I plan on installing the new 195 driver later)
nHancer2.5.7 for 64 bit system

Every time I install the resolution fix, I get the 1024x800 resolution and my frame rate crashes.

Thanks for your help. I would really like to up the resolution especially since I have a 48inch Samsung HDTV monitor available, and my video card supports it.

Dear Irish1958,

the DX9HiResFix does not support any resolution higher than 1280*1024, becuase SH3 does n't. So the max parameters you might adjust in d3d9.cfg are resX=1280, resY=1024.

But I had that know already before blueduck had written that!

Ok, I don't reject this! Maybe I couldn't make out the difference.

Hi guys  And happy new year :sunny:

For the rez fix -> I have windows 7 x64 since few days, and sh3 with gwx 3.0 installed and running ok. The resolution in game is 1680/1050 (with the rezFix tweak). Of course, it is stretched, but it's not a problem to me.

So, i can say --> it works ;)
