Hi all...I got a new monitor. A 20" wide screen. I already miss my old 17" squared monitor, because of the stretched images when I play SH4 v1.5. For example the gauges have an egg shape to them. The game fills the screen and looks great otherwise, even the frame rate is fine with the monitor set at its native 1600x900 res.
Is there a wide screen mod that might fix the oval gauge shapes?
If not, could somebody please recommend monitor settings?
Thank you for your time all.

your monitor setting isnt the key its your games video resolution setting in the options menu screen under the grafics section
try 1024x768 4:3 60htz
it works for my 22" LCD with just a slight oval to the round guages

Try different resolutions. For my monitor the 1900 x 1080 native resolution makes everything perfect.

Ok, I'll experiment a bit more, but otherwise I'm going to have to return this monitor and look for a used one, since they don't seem to make square monitors anymore.
Runningdeer, you have to choose a resolution with a proper aspect ratio (widescreen is usually 16:10), and ideally, you should set the resolution to your display's native resolution, which always gives the best quality.

also remember when selecting a flatscreen if its short and long so will the images be so buy the screens that are the most square and you have the least amount of squishing of stretched images.
all wide screens have the squishing and stretched out look to some extent but the more square the physical screen size is the less noticable it will be

Thanx again Webster...after trying all suggestions and still having oval gauges I boxed up the monitor to return/exchange it, I thought too that maybe this particular model was more wide than others. My wife bought it as a gift. I never would have purchased it myself.
I just cant stand the oval gauges, yuk.
Thanks all for your advise :know:.

Although I returned my monitor, and bought a 20" square monitor, I got another tip from user "Fish40" that might help others out:
"I also have a 20" monitor. An LG W2053TX. The native res is also 1600x900. What I did was to first go into the control panel for my graphics card (ATI X1650pro). There, I set the screen res to 1600x900 60hz. I then started SH4, and went to the graphics options. Scroll down until you find 1600x900, 60hz and select. You may have to restart the game for the setting to take effect. That's all I did. Although the splash screenes are cropped, the game itself shows in all it's widescreen beauty. No stretched dials. Good luck."
Thanx all..."Happy Holidays" :ping:
SH4 1.5 scales correctly with 16:9 aspect ratios. Make sure you have the proper driver installed for the LCD. My Acer X233H runs at a native 1920 by 1080 and SH4 supports that in the video setting menu. No ovals, no muss no fuss. Its about the setup and the driver.
I can understand the frustration, best of luck.
