You need a little patience. Not everyone on here is in the same time zone. Some people are in bed, some people are at work. You have to allow time for someone to answer. You don't get instant answers, give people a little time to answer, sometimes a day or two. Also it is Christmas time so many people are not reading this. They are busy. You have been a member since 2006, you should know this.
The Collision line determines is any other object will collide with it, in other words will something hit it or not. For example another ship, a torpedo, a shell.

Probably the min elevation of the guns.

if you cant be in the cross hairs they wont shoot at you so as peabody said you must be "under" there ability to shoot at you but as you get closer you get into range for the smaller guns and then they should start firing.
im guessing at a range of about 5000 or so but i never checked this since i dont use surface mods

Webster,
We had a couple PMs and he means the other way. His guns on the Iowa will not hit targets closer than 10,000 meters. So the min elevation is probably a bit high.
I just looked it up and the real guns can be elevated from -5 to +45 but the in game's are set for 3 degrees. And since the guns are suppose to shoot about 20 miles, 3 degrees would not land very close.
Another interesting fact, the turrets are "three-gun" not "triples" since each gun can be elevated separately from the others. (Wiki)

ohhh ok
have you ever noticed if the 8" ers work at the intermediate ranges between the 16" and the 5" guns or do they only work with the big guns

Hello!
Can I join to noob questions?
What a difference between spheres and boxes in .zon files? Are spheres intended only for detection of collision/impact? Are boxes intended only for linking between "hits areas" and ship's systems, which described in zones.cfg?
Why any sphere have "Type=-1"?
Sorry for noob question, I can't find something like "FAQ for beginners-modders"...

peabody & webster
it's working its shooting now at close range now
Go to NBB_Iowa.dat
Go to node 360 it says slot_M01_NBB_Iowa
Change to "slot_M02_NBB_Iowa" just change the 1 to 2.
Now open the NBB_Iowa.sim file
Go to node 131
Look to the right window and find "Elevation"
Open the + sign and you will see "min=3"
That is the minimum elevation
Change that, try "min=-3" Try that in the game and see how it works. It needs a minus elevation
i have put it in -5
thanks peabody for your help

now i might not know what im talking about here, its happened before :har:
but i think the slot 1 and slot 2 are for seperating the guns and may be set different based on their heights as mounted on the ship so you might not want to change those but i guess it wont hurt anything if you do.
just watch to see if you run out of ammo, each slot should have its own ammo so if they all share the same slot you may limit all guns to the ammo supply for just 1 gun
as for the gun elevation settings i think thats something that should be fixed for all stock BB

Webster,
The info is basically the PM I sent him. And you are right he shouldn't change slots, but in this case there was, I think, a mistake. The "deckgun" which is a turret in the ships.upc is M02. So in the ship.dat file the gun is #cfg M02 but it nested inside a "Slot_M01". So the ship has a "cfg M01" for one gun and a Slot M01 with the M02 inside it.
In the ship.upc the deckgun is ExternalNodeName3D= M02, but I have to take a minute to check on the crew manning the gun, so he may have to change it back or change the crew depending what happens. I haven't had time to really do a complete check of the upc vs the .dat file.

First thing you will want to do before the radar is change the other two turrets to -5. They are in the iowa.sim nodes 129 and node 133 and 131 These are the 3 turrets.
I'll try to look at the dates for the radar after Christmas. Will not have time now. There is probably no assigned radar to use if you don't buy one, which you can't do in a single mission. It will be in the iowa.upc file for Upgradepackslot.
